This c. 1890's Bahamian Colonial home is located on a small lane just off Duval Street. Rose Cottage is what old Key West is about, beautiful swaying palm trees in the large nicely landscaped backyard, a quaint heated dipping pool in the back, and being close to about everything Key West has to offer! Made of original Dade County Pine, this Hideaway offers parking but our recommendation is to rent some bikes instead of a car as most likely you will not use the car at all. The interior of the unit has been preserved with its original Dade County Pine walls and cei...Read more

We had a perfect vacation at the Rose Cottage

Left on 04/12/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We had a wonderful stay at the Rose Cottage. It was everything a couple could want and need. The beautiful dining area opened onto a beautiful cottage garden and pool. Walking to Duval Street or Mallory Square was quick and easy. Although the cottage is located just a block from Duval, we never heard any noise. The washer and dryer were a plus! We will be back! Historic Hideaways were wonderful as well.

It was a very nice experiance except for the noise from Fat Tues

Left on 04/08/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Clean and nicely kept and comfortable. Would have liked a safe in the cottage, nice to have on sight parking. Walking distance to everything was very nice. Spring break so the noise of Fat Tuesdays was a bit loud. and very nice time was spent and we will probably use your services again. Thank you for the opportunity to respond.

We loved this rental and will be back next year.
This place is right in the heart of old town and steps away from the 300 block of Duval. Even being that close to the nightlife, it is on a quiet side lane and you will hear more noise from the pool next door then the Duval at night.
This rental has lots of extras that make it easy to travel light and still have all the comforts of home. Just a few examples are the washer and dryer are great and it includes Tide detergent, so you can pack light and wash clothes when saying for a week. It has all sorts of extra toiletries: shampoo, sunscreen and nail polish remover to name a few. It comes with a coffeemaker with everything you need to make a cup, blender, toaster, microwave and iron and full size ironing board.
We enjoyed the openness of this rental. All the doors open to backyard and with opening the front door created a nice breeze and we rarely used the aC. We cooked breakfast every morning and dined outside. We also grilled multiple days and really enjoyed having our own pool.
You will see the owners, which live upstairs. They are very nice and unobtrusive. I can not say enough about how much we liked this rental.

      Very nice room

Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013

When we arrived Tim was very helpful, even offering to let us leave our bags at the office until check in time. When we arrived at the "cottage" it is actually more of an apartment with the owners living upstairs. You couldn't hear the noise from Duval which was suprising since we were only a block off the main drag. What we didnt like was that the owners were in the back yard constantly and tons of noise from upstairs. We had come for our honeymoon and to have a vacation with out ids but it felt like we brought our parents with us.
Overall the room was very nice but I could have done with out the owners.

The house was all we needed to enjoy our stay. The pool was refreshing, but very small and 7 feet deep with a rickety ladder for entry/exit! Location was perfect. We had to dodge fruit which fell constantly from the trees and had to sweep it off the back decks a couple of times a day. Considering the location and its proximity to Duval, it was surprisingly quiet.

Left on 10/05/2012 for a stay in September 2012

The house was clean, beautiful, and well equipped. The location is very close to Duval and all other activities which is great to be able to walk to everything. But bad if your getting up early the next morning as the pounding music and partying and craziness can be heard pretty clearly. We even had police outside with their flashing lights lighting up the whole room from a bar fight up the street. But we didn't mind too much as we knew what we were signing up for to be close to it all. All in all, it really made the trip staying here and will not stay anywhere else upon our return.

      Awesome

Left on 09/20/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Had a wonderful time celebrating our 12th yr. anniversary!!! The location was perfect. The cottage is located behind Fat Tuesday about
500 steps away. Even being close to the night life, the cottage was still quiet and peaceful. Having a functional kitchen made things easier. The cottage had an awesome patio where you can sit and have a pleasant lunch/dinner while having access to your private pool. The whole cottage was very clean. I felt at home.
One small issue I had was that while hanging out at the pool, you could be with your drink at hand because the whole pool was 7ft deep. You can go to CVS down the block and get noodles.
For sure I will be planning to come again.

Stayed four nights in august 2012 at the Rose Cottage and loved every aspect of our little getaway. First time to Key West and found this cottage online through a search. The cottage is perfectly described. Very private and quaint. Loved spending time in the backyard and pool. The property management company was very helpful. Best part was the location. Walked to everything! Wonderful stay and will be back!

      Perfect cottage!

Left on 08/17/2012 for a stay in July 2012

This is the perfect place for a couple to stay. The bedroom is large, with a very comfortable bed, the bathroom is large as well with washer/dryer. The best part about the cottage is the wall of windows at the back that open up to a shaded patio area, and then a sunny pool area. Perfect for dunking in. I was very hot when I was there, but the a/c unit did a great job of keeping the place very cool. In addition, to a great place, the location cannot be beat. One block to Duval, but yet you didn't hear any of the noise or craziness when you were in the cottage or out by the pool. This is a special little place.

Great Location to Duval & Fat Tuesday

Left on 08/07/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Comfortable king bed & private courtyard. Pool is jacuzzi size, and for dip only. The owners car is being stored in the driveway, and makes it impossible to park on left side, due to the tight alleyway. I suggested that they store the car on the left to allow guests to park on right side for easy in/out.
Indoor rugs are outdoor hi-textured jute, and are too hard on the feet!
Check-in: suggest push button keypad upgrade so guests can check-in without having to go all the way to office.
Mgmt Staff: Suggest more smiles, ask guests how they like accommodations, and thank guests for renting thru you when there are so many options. Didn't feel business was appreciated.

The Rose Cottage was perfect for us. We were so happy with the location. Quiet but steps from Duval. We wanted a quaint/funky place to stay-not a hotel that could be anywhere USa. The cottage was exactly that! We had a comfortable clean room with character. The pool was perfect and it was so much fun to drink coffee on the patio in the morning and then just jump in! Perfect water temp.We never saw anybody from the upper unit. Totally private. Check-in and check-out was faster than any hotel! Great place for a couple and we have recommended it to friends.

Great Location. Clean and served the purpose. I do wish living area had a comfortable love seat or chair and that the pool people came more often. The wifi was not working and my call to the office regarding this matter went unreturned. I was there and the a/C unit needs to be larger given the age and size of the unit. Still for the price and the location,it has great value.

The Rose Cottage surpassed my expectations by miles and miles. Every little detail was thought of and then some. The location gave you the opportunity to experience Key West the way it should be, the people, the sun, the food, the shopping, the nightlife all within your reach. But at the same time, at a distance where if quiet is what was needed, you had that too. It couldn't have been better!

      Ahhh

Left on 05/13/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Absolutely loved our little Rose Cottage the minute we walked through the door. The perfect spot for our 22nd anniversary for just my hubby and me. Lovely front room w large bed (King I think) with plently of closet and drawer space. Cute little kitchen with everything you need except a blender. Would have loved one for smoothies but everything else was there, pots and frying pans, dishes, toaster, coffee maker. Nice touch when we arrived, the previous guest had left a couple of beer in the fridge which was much appreciated and we of course returned the favour. There was also paper towels, tissue, napkins, and detergent, bleach and softener for the wonderful stackable washer/dryer combo in the bath. Was a nice luxury to have even when we were just there for a week. Forgot cotton squares for my facial routine and voila there some in the bathroom cupboard. We also bought a few things while we there and left them for the next tenants as well (including that couple of beer in the fridge). I felt part of a community of Rose Cottagers past and present and future which was kinda nice. Our absolute favourite part of Rose Cottage was the back yard. The sitting area and all the lounge chairs and the cute little pool were all a favourite start and end to every day. The yard is supposedly cleaned daily what will all the leaves falling from the beautiful shade trees but the fellow did not get any work that week as my husband puttered around out there every morning sweeping the wood decks and stone patio and cleaning out the pool. Personally I just lounged over a good book and my first coffee or (2). Speaking of books if you forget to bring no worries, as there is a collection on the little desk. I added two of my own that I had finished so feel free to give them a read and leave them for the next. I would have liked a big cuffy chair inside. The bamboo one in the front is adequate but not that comfortable and as it poured the first day and a half of our visit a more relaxing chair or sofa would have been appreciated. Also there was no phone which I found odd but we both had our cells so that was no big deal. Internet was available free of charge. It was pretty quiet during our stay. At the end we had a rather loud group move in next door but they were just a big group of friends having fun, nothing obnoxious and they were not loud at night. Supposedly the owners live or visit upstairs but we never saw them during our stay. Any noise from Duval or neighbours was blocked out by the window aC unit which created a nice white noice for sleeping. We kept it off during the day and used the big ceiling fans to keep things cool. Also must mention how clean this place was. Amazingly so. Actually ran into the housekeeper on our last day. A beautiful lady who obviously loves the old homes she helps look after. Must also make mention of the the guys at Historic Hideaways. They were very friendly and helpful answering questions by phone or email before we arrived and were absolutely the perfect hosts in person. We had our bike rentals from Recycle Bikes and as we had a late flight we were able to tour around Key West our last day leaving our lugguge in their office and then the bikes for Recycle to pick up the next day. Would defnitely return to Key West and to Rose Cottage. A perfect week but too short so next year we are going for two.

The rose cottage was exactly what I expected, there were no surprises after looking at pictures and description online. Very cute and cozy little place for two within walking distance of most everything you might want to do in Key West. The only negative thing for us was the parking, it is a very small space and very narrow road with the owner's car apparently parked there making it extremely difficult to get an SUV in that spot. Once parked though we were 1/2 a block from Duval St. walked everywhere and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Rose Cottage, managed by Historic Hideaways, is a little piece of heaven. It is perfectly located and just a few steps from some of our favorite restaurants and bars. Close to everything you want to do in Key West

Left on 07/28/2011 for a stay in July 2011

The Rose Cottage was only 1/2 block off the main part of Duval Street and a couple of buldings down from the Hard Rock Cafe and Fat Tuesday. It was in walking distance of Mallory Square and all the seafront resturants. The cottage was a perfect get away for two people. It had a nice king size bed, large bathroom and a kitchen with everything you would need for a short visit. The two things we liked best was the washer/dryer and the wonderful "dipping" pool in the courtyard. (both of these came in very handy during the heat wave) The pool is 7 ft deep and only about 14 X10 feet. The pool stayed nice and cool during the hot part of the day which made it a great place to cool off after sight seeing. Several of people we met complained that their swimming pools were hitting 95 degrees during the daytime. One note: They have fixed the problem of the ladder in the pool being too short which was reported in some of the earlier reviews
The only thing that could have been better was the air conditining. We were there during a heat wave and the airconditioner had trouble keeping up. Luckily there are two ceiling fans and a box fan in the cottage. With all of those things turned on, it was comfortable.
The location had a parking space which would have been great if we needed it. We decided not to have a car while there. We took a cab to /from the airport and even ventured out on the city bus one day to get to the other side of the island. There is a bus stop about 1/2 block from the cottage. However, most everyhing you need is within a short walk from the cottage. There is even a great little grocery store just about 4 blocks away that has everything you could want. We made breakfast at the cottage and enjoyed the patio in the mornings..
This is a wonderful little cottage tucked away down a small alley behind the busiest streets in Key West. Truely a gem.

The cottage was exactly to our taste, old and charming. The cistern converted to pool was quite romantic. Location was fabulous - an easy walk to the grocery store and nice little liquor store with pretty good wine. My only complaint would be the bed and bedding - they should definitely be replaced. Also, workmen showed up on both Saturday and Sunday mornings at 8:30 to replace the siding on the house and were there most of the day. Fortunately we're early risers, so we just left. Ask about this before you go!

The open floor plan is great for a couple. The cottage has a warm comfortable feel. Acces to the backyard is seamless and we spent most of our time on the deck and in the private backyard. A little late night noise from Duval Street is expected.

Rose Cottage is very conveniently located in Old Town just off Duval Street. It was tucked back and very private, but you did hear some nighttime noise. It had everything that we seemed to need. The pool was useful only for getting wet since it was so small, and inside the cottage we could have used a nice comfy chair for reading. But overall, it was quite adequate for a nice getaway.

We throughly enjoyed our stay. For the 2 of us the cottage was perfect. The only issue we had was with the ladder. Trying to get out of the pool was so very hard. One of the reasons we chose Rose Cottage was because of the private pool; but because of trying to get out we really did not use it much. But that will not stop us from staying again.

Rose Cottage-Don't go for the pool

Left on 09/17/2010 for a stay in August 2010

The cottage was great as well as the location however we were highly dissatisfied with the pool. What purpose does a seven foot deep pool serve. Yes, the entire pool is 7 feet deep!! The surrounding deck is too high above the surface (at least a foot). The ladder extended only a few inches into the water making it very difficult to climb out. Who wants to constantly tread water when you are in the pool? Forget drinking or you'll drown. I feel the property was misrepresented as the pool was not functional. Turn it into a fish pond and lower the rate!!!

The Guest is correct in that the pool is about 7 feet deep. We would like to point out that in Key West, this is not uncommon for pools (the same depth all around.) We call them 'splash pools' and are the rule, not the exception, for many smaller units. In many cases, they are convereted cisterns from the old days, and are all over Old Town. Pools can not go much deeper anywhere in Old town as we are at sea level, so please keep this in mind when reserving Old Town properties...us or others. Management.

The rental agent was friendly and expeditious with all paperwork and assisted getting us to the location after check in. The cottage is comfortable, quaint, private and relaxing with all needed amenities. The location is excellent for short distance walks to many eateries and Mallory Square. We enjoyed the private pool but the ladder needs to extend into the pool another step or two. Was too short.

This is a beautiful property, with a location that can't be beat. The private back yard and pool were our personal slice of paradise. We spent hours bobbing in the pool! There are two things that would make this the perfect place to stay. First, the mattress is the hardest I've ever slept on, very uncomfortable. Second, the air conditioner is not powerful enough to cool the space; it was always quite hot inside the cottage. That said, this was an amazing place to stay that just oozed charm. You can't go wrong staying here!

It is Quaint, Quiet, and Quick to get to the excitement on Duval Street(about a 1-2 min walk at most). The bed was exquisite, the amenities were quality, We appreciated the washer and dryer. The private back yard and pool area were just that, private and relaxing. I highly recommend this property!

      Ok Place

Left on 05/01/2009 for a stay in April 2009

I rented this home for a honeymoon trip. If you are simply traveling

to Key West for sight seeing this is an ok place, very pretty, and

close to downtown and the boat docks. Unfortunately, my partner
      and
I were looking for a quiet, private, romantic place. Historic
      Hideaways
failed to let us know that the owner of this property lives
      on the
second floor. The movement from the second floor is loud,
      and starts
early in the morning. I tend to enjoy sleeping in which
      was a little
difficult. The owner frequently comes down to the back
      yard. There is
no curtain over the back wall which is all glass.... This
      makes the
private and Romantic piece kind of go out the window.
      On many
occasions simply changing into our bathing suits was a
      little awkward
as the owner was moving about the back yard. The
      Pool in the back yard
is HEAVLY chlorinated. It hurt our eyes to get
      in. For a more private
place, I would ask about some of Historic Hideaways other homes given
      the price...

On a good note, we enjoyed the kitchen and beautiful
      back yard.
My partner and I got stuck out on a boat in rough seas and
      missed
our checkout time. The owner and Historic Hideaways were very

good in collecting up our possessions and leaving them at the

Historic Hideaways office even though we had not had time to pack
      or
      tidy up.

The privacy of this location was an issue with me, but
      other than
that, I had a great time in Key West, this house is
      beautiful. These
comments above are just my personal experience and in
      no way are
meant to hurt the owner, who is a very nice pleasant woman.

      Perfect Home, Perfect Location

Left on 04/22/2009 for a stay in April 2009

My husband and I just returned from a week at Rose Cottage. This is our first rental experience; our past trips have all been "all-inclusive". We enjoyed this experience so much, that I'm not sure we'll return to the "all-inclusive" style for awhile.

Even though many of the advertisements claim properties to be - just a short walk from Duval - Rose Cottage REALLY was just a short walk from Duval, minutes from bars like "The Bull & Whistle" and "Ricks". Though we were in the heart of things, the lane was quiet and even during prime bar time, we could barely hear the music off of Duval from the cottage.

Everything one needs for a comfortable stay is provided. There was even extra sunscreen incase we ran out, though the CVS pharmacy is only a few blocks away.

We loved the fact that the property was securely fenced and we could leave the french doors open at all times, freely leaving personal belongings on the patio table or out by the pool without a fear of theft.

I highly recommend this property and am convinced that we will make a point of returning ourselves.

This is such a jem of a shabby chic cottage! Such a central
location close to everything, but you feel like you are in such a
secluded place. I can't think of anything the cottage didn't
provide. Everything was clean and orderly. The only complaint I
have was that the "heated" pool was really cold. Other than
that, it was lovely. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Conveniently located on a lane just off Duval Street, Rose Cottage was amazingly quiet and perfect for getting away from it all.
It was very well-equipped (the only thing lacking was a dishwasher) and had original features along with furniture in keeping with the style.
The garden, including decking area and pool, was well maintained with interesting plants, and we spent most of our stay out here.
The owners live in the apartment upstairs, but apart from popping round early in our stay to make sure all was OK, we were left to our own devices and given exclusive access to the outside space.
Rose Cottage is perfect for a couple who want easy access to the shops & restaurants of historic Key West, but with the comfort of your own pool and garden, in a most relaxing setting.

Everything worked, it was spotless, it had all the amenities, it was completely private and just a short walk from the main street of Key West. Outstanding location. The back yard was great, there were no bugs, the ladder on the pool, which is a converted rainwater cistern, was a little weak, but didn't fail. A first class experience we are still talking about with fond memories.
