The Papaya place condo was a very good rental. It was very big, allowing 6 of us to stay there comfortably. Once we rented bikes, we were able to maneuver the island much better. The location is about 1.6 miles from bars and food. It's unfortunately outside of pizza delivery for most places that are open late.

Good service, access to condo a little vague, but turned out fine.
Condo was Very clean, big, and up to date. Except for Non-working soaking/ jacuzzi tub, shower only. Also hot water kept running out !
Awesome location, view, and fell in Love with Key West .
Liked least about unit, was construction dumpster located right outside our balcony, and workers working on unit above us, climbing ladders over/past our balcony.
All in all, Absolutely Love Key West and are now actively looking for a place of our own there. Read more

Thank you for taking the time to review our home. It is unfortunate another owner was having work done on their home which disrupted your visit. Thankfully, that is short-term and the work has been completed so peace and quiet prevail once again!
Comfortable and Homey

Over all we liked the condo very much. The decor was pleasant and the furniture was comfortable. The master bedroom bed was terrific, though we could have used a larger dresser to unpack all our clothes for a two week stay. The balcony faced the nature preserve which was private and mostly quiet, especially after a day at the pool during Spring Break!
The kitchen was well stocked and could have accommodated cooking large meals had we chosen to do so, though it is the original cabinetry and a bit dated. We saw other units where the upper cabinets were removed, allowing for a more open look into the living/dining room, granite and a more open floor plan.
I can't say enough about at Home in Key West. They were professional in all areas and attentive to our needs at all times. Kudos to Gail, who took good care of us!
We had been made aware of the property's renovation project, but no one knew that it would be quite so noisy around the pool area. A plus for Papaya Place: since the work was being done on the opposite side of the pool, and since our condo faced the preserve, the construction noise was minimal. In the upcoming months, however, "A" Building will be very noisy. Read more

Papaya Place was amazing. We were thrilled with the accomodations and the accessibility to Smathers Beach, parks, and Duvall Street. At Home in Key West provided us with a wonderful Welcome package that listed restaurants, water sports, shopping and events taking place on Key West. We took full advantage of it! Our activities and sightseeing adventures were filled with fun and so much history of the island. There is definitely something for everyone!

Very comfortable, roomy condo with parking!

Papaya Place is a large and very relaxing 2/2 condo near the Key West airport. Parking everywhere on the island is difficult, and petty crime a problem, so having a gated, underground parking spot was a bonus. Very secure complex with keyed doors and gates to get in, and three locks on the condo door.
The view from the condo is lovely and very private, looking out from all bedrooms and living room into the nature preserve, and bright light streaming in through the large slider doors.
Kitchen very well stocked with cooking and serving items which was important to us to eat better and save some money from eating out every meal.
Bathrooms were very clean and well lit and lots of quality towels were provided, including beach towels - a very nice touch.
Wi-Fi was excellent! Cable included, and Tv's in both bedrooms and living rooms was nice for down time. Dated, but large selection of books on the shelf.
The location was a bit difficult - much too far from the tourist areas to walk, so we ended up driving everywhere, but still quite a bit of walking from wherever we could find to park. My general observation was that Key West is not a good place to visit unless you can do a good amount of walking or ride a bike, even if you stayed downtown without a car. Something to keep in mind for impaired travelers.
Also there was a faint unpleasant aroma (sewage plant?) in the vicinity between Smathers Beach and the pier just to the west along atlantic, although it could not be detected in the condo complex at all - not even at the pool - just driving around the area. Traffic was often quite heavy on both sides of the complex, but opposite Papaya Place so it could not be heard - just took some time to get out during the rush hour. Surprisingly, there was very little airport noise at all - just an occasional prop.
Although the listing states "Pets - ask" the answer was a definitive "no pets" so strike Papaya Place off your list if you are looking for a pet-friendly place.
An enjoyable visit

Everyone was very helpful with our arrival, the condo was clean and very attractive. Really enjoyed the wildlife sanctuary on the side, made it quite peaceful. The pool was wonderful, and the surrounding gardens were lovely.
If you enjoy walking, go to the left side of the building towards the water, and theres a great walking path and beach also there-unfortunately it took me a couple days to discover it. All in all everything was terrific, and very relaxing

I booked this as a last minute family trip for spring break. My husband is very picky so I was nervous. We brought his mom and our 17 yr old daughter and 6 yr old son. Everyone loved it! My husband kept complimenting me on a good job finding it. It was way more comfortable than a hotel in regards to having the full kitchen, lots of space, and not relying on meals out all the time. All the people we met were very friendly, and we hung out by the pool and jacuzzi daily and nightly. There are ample bbq areas for everyone, and the jacuzzi felt amazing. They even have saunas in the pool bathrooms. We would definitely stay there again, the price is right and it is extremely clean. My only complaint would be that the master bed is not what I'm used to, I could feel springs in various places, but being that we were only there three nights it wasn't too bothersome. The entire place was stocked with everything you would need and then some. We would definitely rent this again in the future. Read more

We had been conversing and corresponding with Lida and found her to be both accomodating and a pleasure to work with. She does an excellant job!
We arrived the day before my brother was to be married 11/11/11 and were very excited. The initial appearance upon arrival was wow, love the layout, love the colors, and knowing we were getting this and an ocean view, we were psyched. Upon walking into the master bedroom and bath, it had a wow factor except for the cheap quality of the comforter. The bathroom was a disappointment because there was a sign that the tub was not working tub. So, needless to say the initial excitement waned considerably. The promised "ocean view" for which we payed a higher price was a sliver of ocean which could be seen only if you stood in the exact right place. Big disappointment!!
The biggest criticism was the condition of the furnishings and linen, the tiles in the second bathroom and the linoleum in the kitchen. To then find that the red dishes were chipped (a health hazzard) and the coffee maker was broken only added to our disappointment. The first morning the coffee spewed all over the counter and floor because the carafe lid didn't fit properfly. I think advertizing and having a higher price for a ocean view is dishonest.Overall the quality of some of the furnishings was lesser quality than we expected. Some friends were in a condo a floor above us which had no ocean view, payed less, and had a gorgeous condo with high quality furnishings. The pool and view of the ocean from the pool was great! I might add that if this was my place I would have a beachbag and cooler available for guests to use. We were appreciative of the soap, laundry detergent, and paper products. Having two sinks in the master bath was a treat for us.There should, however, be a liquid soap in each bathroom. If the aforementioned things were fixed then this review would be much better. Thank you for taking the time to review our home. It is unfortunate your visit was impaired by the items you mention; a quick call to our office would have immediately resolved some of your issues (ie; coffeepot, dishes).
Please note that the description for this condo on our website is very specific that there is a view of the nature preserve, not ocean view.
We hope you will consider staying with us again, allowing us to "wow" you at some time in the future.

My wife and I have been staying at Papaya Place for years. Recently this unit has had many upgrades, with new appliance, Wi-fi ect. The moment you walk in, you feel at home. The location is a quiet retreat from the bustle of Duval St. The check in proceedure is always flawless, and the management of the property is always available. We love the ocean view at the pool! We plan to rent this unit every year.

We enjoyed our stay! The unit had a nice private garden view and partial view of the water. The pool area was great with access to the atlantic. You will be amazed by the size of the shower in the master bath!! There were plenty of great books on the shelves to take with you to the pool side for a little reading and relaxation. We will for sure try to stay there again next time we are in the keys with friends.

Coming from the midwest and escaping to Key West was wonderful. This location was great for us. The secured entrance was nice. Very friendly people both staff and guests. Very nice pool. A nice view of the ocean. Not much beach but we knew that before we got there. This location is not real close to Duval or Mallory Square but we rented bikes so it was not a problem riding our bikes to all the activities.

This is our (my girlfriend and I) 4th time together in this condo and we are looking forward to planning our next trip soon! The colorful décor and local artwork make it a charming alternative to the usual sterile pre-packaged looking beach condo or hotel room where you could be "anywhere USa" Its only slight imperfections add to a true Key West flavor and feels like a "home away from home." Facing the Mangrove side of the building (the quietest part of the complex) it has view of a nature preserve facing palm trees and lovely vegetation and even a bit of the ocean from the deck-- which is very private-- we drink our coffee in our robes on the deck in the morning
Big eat-in homey kitchen . Master bathroom has great huge shower-only area, second bathroom has a regular sized working bath and shower. All rooms open onto the deck. We use bikes to go almost everywhere on the island but there is an assigned parking spot in a covered garage for a car.
The grounds pools and tennis courts are the best on the island- tropical gardens, Olympic sized pool & hot tub facing the ocean. We take "drill and play” group tennis lessons with the resident pro and rent racquets right from the pro shop so we don't have to struggle with bringing them on an airplane.
We love it!

I came for a nice relaxing vacation with friends. It was perfect. A great kitchen, well equipped and big enough for everyone to get together and cook. A nice comfy living room to sit back and read or watch tv. The balcony looks out on a nature preserve. Downstairs there's a huge well kept up pool with a hot whirlpool next to it. Most mornings I had it all to myself. Right next to the pool is the ocean and a short walk away is Smathers beach, one of the only good beaches on the island. The people in the building are helpful and friendly. There is a free lending library in the common room by the pool. It was just what we needed. Thank you very much.

My husband and I brought our 17 yrs old son and his
friend down on spring break. Our condo was beautiful and combfortable. The pool and accomodations could not have been any better. The only thing that I believe would be helpful is if you would get a third key. Depending on ages of guest that are staying it would have been nice to have an extra set of keys. sometimes, I was at the pool, my husband went on a boat fishing and the kids would be at the beach or going downtown on their bikes so someone was always without a key...which was a little frustrating at times, not only do you need the condo key but a security door key!
Nice unit - great pool!

We rented Papaya Place at 1800 Atlantic Condominiums in Key West for a week in April. The location is in a quiet part of Key West outside of the busy downtown area. If you are looking to spend more time in the more popular areas on Duval Street, Historic Seaport or Mallory Square you will find this property too far to be within walking distance.
The Complex was older and needs to be refreshed, but the Condo was clean and tastefully decorated. The furniture was comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. There were plenty of sheets, bath and beach towels available for our use.
The pool area was beautifully landscaped, very lovely and was kept clean. It appeared that the pool/patio area had been updated recently as it was "newer" looking than the rest of the complex.
The "beach" adjoining the property is not useful as a beach property as it is very rocky both in the water and on the shore, but the view is beautiful. If you do want to spend time at the beach while in Key West I would recommend the adjacent Smathers Beach which is within walking distance of the Condo, or Fort Zachary Taylor.
As for the things we did not care for: one was the Master bath which contained a huge (maybe 10 person) hot tub/shower which seemed very out of place in the Condo and not to our liking. We did not even use this at all. In addition, the shower in the hall bathroom which was of the standard tub/shower style was difficult to turn on and off. Also a few of the lamps in the Condo had bulbs that were burned out and we did not find any replacements in the closets in which to change them. This of course left us with less than desirable lighting conditions most evenings while in the Condo. Lastly we did not care for the hallways leading to the individual Condos since the lighting was not sufficient and the green walls & carpet gave it a dingy appearance.

Papaya Place is a delight! It is decorated in orange and yellow that make you smile each time you enter the apartment. It has beautiful artwork and accessories. The kitchen is well stocked and makes making meals easy.
1800 has a large pool and hot tub. For me, I like having the tennis courts downstaits and the tennis club has a friendly manager who runs a clinic that makes everyone feel welcome.
The drawback is the "no-see-ums" bite at dusk when you sit on the balcony.

Our family of five spent a great week in this condo. The condo itself is tastefully decorated and spacious. Large balcony with a slight view of the Atlantic. The pool is definitely a highlight of this complex. I'm sure it is one of the largest pools in Key West with gorgeous views of the Atlantic, plenty of lounge chairs and a large hot tub. We used the grills and picnic pavillion in the pool courtyard to cook up our catch from a fishing trip with Captain Duck from Lazy Dog Adventures. 1800 Atlantic is a short walk across the street to Smathers Beach but a five minute car ride to restaurants, shopping and other Key West attractions. We had a rental car (building has secured parking garage) and never had trouble finding parking. I would definitely recommend this condo.

Key West is beautiful with much to do for any age. The grounds and building that this rental was in were well kept. The condo itself needed some heaving updating (likely last updated in the 80's) and repair. The sliding glass door had problems and had an air leak which caused the A/C to run, and run, and run, the leuvered doors within the kitchen and halloway were off the tracks, two of the dining room chairs were broken, the sofas in the living room were comfortable, but in desperate need of cleaning. The dryer was barely working (took 2 plus hours to dry a very small load of towels). The bedding and linens were in fair shape and the bathrooms were in fine working order. The beds however were like sleeping on boards and the pillows were awful. Good towels for both the bath and the beach were provided and the kitchen was well stocked however the stove top had burners that did not work. The tile floors had not been cleaned prior to our visit, but everything else seemed clean. Coffee pot didn't work worth a darn. The pool was really quite nice and had a great view with plenty of seating and tables with umbrellas. The underground parking was a big plus. You definitely however need a car to get to the downtown area. The condo itself did not have much for beach, but a nice one was within a short walking distance. We will come to Key West again, but likely not try to rent this unit unless updates and repairs have been made. We stayed 6 days.
