Our stay at the Hemingway House was great! The house was neat and clean, the beds were comfortable and the pool was nice and only a few steps away. We liked that we were only 2 blocks from Duval Street where all the action was and there was no need for a car or a taxi. We would diffently stay there again.

Great location, rental is somewhat dated

The location is excellent. easy walk to Duval st. Close to taylor state park which is the best beach in Key West. Interior of the rental is dated, particularly the bathrooms. The rental was also very close to the pool. Overall, I would recommend.

The unit was clean, well stocked with all you would need. The bedding was not, however. soiled, and smelling of something.I mention this because we sleep there. and above all it needs to be clean. I also had to fix the middle brace in the frame of the bed. it is missing bolts. and I did not find any on the floor. Read more

Thank you for taking the time to review our home. As happy as we are that you enjoyed your visit, we are dismayed that there were Housekeeping issues. Had we known, we could have corrected these issues immediately; this is not something we would ask you to "live" with while staying with us.
Keys amazing / House Not So Much
Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in May 2013 | Disappointed Floridians
This had the potential to be adorable, But had many unnecessary issues. Front door only opens half way, making it hard to bring in luggage etc. 2 other doors in house stick bad too. Ice Machine produces about 30 cubes a day. so a constant ice trip in 85/90 degree weather is needed. There is only 1 TV in the whole place! And its small. 19". No tv /music or anything in either bedroom ??? Rooms are small & right next to each other so you hear everything. And there is no way they were queen beds!! Both Def Full size only! **Bathrooms! Omg! WTF? 1 bath is so small that you cant soap your body & shave legs cause your constantly under the water, & knees hit the broke down vanity when on Toilet. The other bath has a shower that has a curtain wrapped around the entire tub because of leaks so you were constantly being stuck to the curtain. One mistake & the dining table downstairs is flooded. The decor is a mix match of everything - African/Oriental & beach ? All in the same room. The pull out couch sticks and is a work out to get out and in, and painful to sleep on cause no padding. The back porch was nice to sit on, but very hot. This is the only condo to not have a fan on porch. Check out - When they say 10am, they mean a Mean/nasty man banging on front door at 10:01 am and a cleaning Lady coming in back door at same time. Seriously? And dont even think about renting scooters for the week. There is no place to park them if you drove in and are using your 1 small spot up against bushes that scrapped up our truck. The Gate security people were sooo rude about it to. !st walking in (after the door hits you in the face cause it doesnt open all the way) we thought it was cute. But so many issues that it made the stay uncomfortable, expecially for the price. I def would not stay in this rental again. Thank God, the Keys are so amazing that it made it all worth it. Fix doors, bathrooms, add TVS, couch, add fan backyard & This could be adorable!!

This was a lovely property! Small but cozy and with all the amenities we would want. Great porches outside bedrooms. Gas grill on patio was a plus. Steps away from the pool. Much nicer and cheaper than staying in a hotel. Central, convenient location. Would recommend highly.
Truman annex is close to it all, love the area and accommodation

We have stayed in this rental property before and like it very much. It has everything we need and is located within walking distance of Mallary Square, Duval St, the beach, and (our favorite) the Green Parrot!!. There also is a very nice heated pool. We will definately be back for another stay! Love Key West.

This was our second time with at home ,we really like the location for the pool and ease of our fun spots but the lack of a bath room down stairs and the smaller bath rooms upstairs wasn't up to par .we had a great time and as allways the personnel for at home was top notch, we really liked a place in Paradice better which we rented last time. The Hemingway beds and baths are suited more for smaller people. other than that we had a great time
Not worth the money.

The location of the rental was amazing! Walking distance to everything! The house itself inside was a disaster. Everything was old, the bed were horrible! The springs bounced you right off the bed if you threw yourself down too fast. The pull out couch was horrendous! My friends back was bruised from the bar that pushed threw the 30 year mattress. Oh and we cannot forget the leak from the light fixture right about the dining table. Apparently, if you don't fully pull the curtains all the way around you in the shower upstairs and water leaks out of the tub onto the floor, it will leak downstairs onto the table. In our case onto a laptop that was sitting there. When we called to have it fixed we were told it was a known problem and that we just need to make sure to close the shower curtain all the way. I am sure all the other rentals in the area aretha nicer and better taken care of but for the price we paid this was totally not worth it!
As for at Home in Key West... The lady who helped with our reservations was great! But make sure you have your packet handy because of you happen to call ahead and ask any questions they won't answer and say its in the packet! Also, don't bother calling to let them know you won't be making it in time before the office closes to pick up the keys; they will tell you "instructions are in the packet"!
All in all, "The Hemingway" is not worth the money at all!!! Read more

Thank you for taking the time to review our home. We will share your comments about the beds with the owner. Thank you for the compliment given to Libby, your reservationist, who is always available to answer any questions from our guests. We make every effort to give guests all the information they need to collect keys from our lockbox if they arrive when the office is closed, and are typically given praise for our efficiency. It sounds like we did not exceed your expectations, would always appreciate the opportunity to make it right.

The team working for at Home in Key West, Inc was a pleasure to work with. All correspondence was timely, informational & friendly. I could call and speak to someone at any time to ask a question, which I appreciated. The condo was described accurately in the review and was perfect for our four adult guests. The pool was steps away from our back porch, and we enjoyed it daily! The condo was 2 blocks to Duval Street & a short walk to Fort Zachary Taylor Beach, the Ernest Hemingway Home, Truman's Little White House & other great restaurants & bars! If we go back to Key West, we will book with at Home in Key West, Inc again for sure!

We had a great stay. House was clean and decorated nicely. The smoke alarm did keep going off in master bedroom every time the power went out, which during our stay was twice in the middle of the night. Alarm was located 10 to 12 feet from the floor and we had no way to stop alarm except use broom and stand on bed to locate button in the dark. We called emergency number, but were told nothing they could do. We hope that is fixed because we loved back porch with all the plants. Some chairs on front porch would be fun also.

We spend one week in the Hemingway. The place is very nice. We loved to grill in the back yard. The only minus was that there is no internet connection in the Hemingway.
Roaches and horrible maintenance
Left on 07/10/2010 for a stay in July 2010 | K. Bowen
Good location -- poorly maintained and appointed home.
They keep the roach traps on the kitchen counter!!
This home reminded us of our house in England built in the 1800s.
The young lady from at home in Key West rental agency was great. I would go there again, but avoid staying at the Hemingway.
The beds and pillows are extremely uncomfortable. The pull out bed is completely shot. Not even enough support for little kids. The springs were popping out of the mattress. You can not sleep 6 comfortably.
The hot water tank is very small and the hot water runs out quickly.
The kitchen needs serious help. Most of the counter tops are badly cracked. You would be lucky to make two place settings. Most of the china is broken and can not be safely used with children. The stove was broken, the microwave is melted, and if you like/plan to cook their equipment is thin and extremely worn out.
Watch out for the refrigerator. it will freeze and ruin your food!!
The bathrooms are a mess. Moldy shower curtains and standing water. They are tiny tiny tiny rooms. The bath towels were badly soiled. Most of them were torn or had large holes in them.
There is no internet and the TV is broken.
The pools closed early every night. They advertise 11, but it's more like 8.
When you called our office for a last-minute reservation after our office had closed, Jennie stayed after hours to find a home for your group of 5; we appreciate you recognizing her efforts to accommodate you.
It is unfortunate that you did not contact us during your 7-night stay as many of the issues you comment on could have been fixed. Our company strives to provide our guests with exceptional guest service and respond to concerns right away. This home is reserved often and guests enjoy its convenient location and ability to accommodate 6 people.
We certainly look forward to working with you again to find a home that exceeds your expectations. Thank you.

The upstairs front bedroom shower, leaks heavily into the dining room below. The water pours out through the "trak light" fixture. Big leak, obviously has been patched before. Corian style kitchen counter is badly broken, effecting more than 40% of the countertop. Cleaning crew should be fired. Filthy floors, dirty bathrooms, disgusting old sticky stuff under the microwave oven, and mud/dirt covered porches.
It's time for the owner to put some of the rental income, back into the property.

Thanks again for the way you managed the rental of
the Hemingway Home in the Truman Annex. When we

though it was Sunday.
The house was in tip top shape and everything went
smoothly and without a hitch. I'm definitely

Do you like bed bugs?

During our stay we were in a unit in the Truman Annex. This is an area near Duval St with the normal amenities. Our unit had not been maintained very well. The refrigerator was old and did not work well. The dishes were old chipped and cracked and mismatched, the pots and pans were very old, the silverware was new. The kitchen counter was cracked in several places. The toilet leaked in the front bedroom and the door to the balcony was frozen. Most of us were bitten by bugs in the bed and had to visit the urgent care for medicine and dermatologist upon our return home, we are getting better. The pool area was nice and the neighbors pleasant. Duval Street is always fun along with the other Key West activities. I am sure there are units that meet most people expectations but ours was not one of them.
Great trip to Key West

We were happy to stay at The Hemmingway even though it was a last minute switch. We were disappointed with the limited cable TV and no DVD (we have small children who brought their favorite DVD to play.) Of course, we did not go to KW to watch TV, but it's nice to have something for a 6 and 7 year old to wind down to in the evening. The kitchen appliances need updating, the freezer and refrigerator ran constantly. The smoke alarm upstairs was not connected, and the carpet upstairs was so uncomfortable, it actually hurt to walk on! We loved the location to the community pool, and it had a gas grill which was great to throw burgers and dogs on for lunch. Close to the night life of Duval Street. We love the Truman Annex and would stay there again.
Quiet location, but still walking distance to all activities.

This was our fifth trip to Key West. On our past trips we've stayed at a full service resort, a Bed & Breakfast and two different condos. We enjoyed each of them, though there were minor drawbacks with each.
The Hemmingway was perfect, four of us stayed here and there were no complaints. It is a very well maintained and quiet complex. When sitting on the front porch it makes you feel more as a resident of Key West than a tourist. It is within easy walking distance of Mallory Square, the seaport, the beach at Fort Zachory Taylor State Park, as well as all of the most popular restaurants and bars. We plan on staying here again on our next visit.
some good, some not so good

First, the good things about this property:
The location is great--just a couple blocks from all the action, but fairly quiet. There are a convenience store and a fun bar within two blocks.
The furniture is good quality (except the outdoor furniture) and comfortable, including the beds.
Unit had everything we needed.
Flatware looked new.
Air conditioning and heat worked fine.
No bugs at all, not even an ant.
Unit is decorated nicely.
Having four separate decks was good (although only one had any furniture).
The not-so-good things:
Several items were in disrepair: the fridge had mold/rust all over the front, many dishes were chipped, dish towels were stained and torn, floor tiles were cracked, TV remote control didn't work, water dripped through dining area light onto table, carpeting was frayed and stained, some bedding and towels had holes, kitchen counter was badly cracked, one of the burners on the stove didn't work, landscaping was in dire need of attention.
Rear deck and chairs were filthy. Resin chairs cost $5--why not replace them?
Upstairs carpeting is very rough and hurts to walk on with bare feet.
There was an old wicker chair in the side yard.
Bathrooms are poorly designed. Master bath is so small you can't be in there with the door open. Other bath has a ledge around the tub that fills with water when you shower (then runs onto the floor and drips onto the dining table), unless you place the shower curtain just so. Shower in master bath has no place to put soap or shampoo---we managed to find an old rack in the other bathroom, so we used that.
The dryer takes forever to dry your clothes. Plan an hour or more for a regular mixed load.
This home really needs to be remodeled, and it could use a deep cleaning that includes scrubbing the floors and decks.
Overall, we had a good stay, despite the minor annoyances. I would probably stay in this unit again.
3rd stay in the annex
Left on 11/21/2008 for a stay in August 2007 | Greg Wilson
this was my third stay at the annex,my wife 2 young children, my
mother in law ,and me.The property was wonderful as always but
the air conditioner completely blew up the first night and my week
in heven turned to hell from there At Home sent a repairman late
the next day almost dark he told me and them it was unrepairable
and had a new unit ready for installation and had fixed or patched
this unit several times and that at home knew weeks before that
there was a problem,so i asked the company what they could do
and was told we could move over to the appartment part of the
complex in a unit two hundred yards from a comunity pool full of
partying people not appropriate for my family and not what drove
23 hours for so night three sleeping in my own sweat i had had
enough went to the office asked for comparable accomadations or
fix my air they did nothing so i rented from an owner that was next
door i met at our shared pool he was nice and salvaged two days of
our trip, after 15 trips in a row to the keys it is not as dear to me
now and even though 1 4th of my money was refunded i still had to
spend half my trip packing and unpacking and over again looking
for other places to stay pleading with at home over and over again
we were all sad, uncomfortable and ready to go home and for the
first time in our lives not planning to revisit one of our most
favorite places two years in a row
class family I really can't say more than this was a moment in our
lives completely taken and destroyed that we will never get back
and the air contractor could has finished this job while we were at
the pool he told me this and at home did nothing it's so sad I
picked this area on a prior trip and rented way in advance i even
went to walmart and bought fans that didn't help well you get the

Have rented several condos at Truman Annex and love the location. This condo is by far the prettiest. Very spacious too! Only 1 negative. The second bathroom upstairs is very small - no space to leave leave your things or move around. It IS beautiful, however! If you want a larger bathroom, stay in the other bedroom! If you want to an elegant condo that's has a spacious living area with open kitchen and great for entertaining, this is the condo for you!
