Description from the manager
Tropical seclusion best describes this oasis in the Casa Marina District. Enter the splendor of this large estate through a private gate; stroll down brick pathways, meandering by the cottage until you reach the two story main home. The gardens are lush and abundant featuring various species of mature palms, birds of paradise, flowering ginger and bromeliads surround a pool complete with gazebo and an outdoor dining table. This magnificent home opens to the world outside at every turn. Each bedroom is set off with it's own view of dense vegetation. The large Master suite sits atop the house to capture the serenity of the estate from the wrapa...Read more

Little Rock, ArkansasInfestation nightmare.
Left on 03/28/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We stayed in the Villa Tropical and the pool area was infested with ants. We have an amazing video of the ants. They were everywhere. When we tried to get into the pool there were so many floating on top and full in the skimmers that it was nasty. They were coming out of the wood decking all around the pool area. We called to complain and they called it an act of God. I guess if the house falls down with termites that too will be considered an act of God, not poor maintenance. They sent two guys to spray and the first one used such harsh chemicals that we were instructed not to get on the pool deck for 12 hours. They second one sprayed and said to stay out of the water for a few hours and they would be back the next day to spray again. They never showed up. The management may as well have been non existant. We were unable to use the pool for the entire week. We paid for the use of the heater and were told by Paul (the property manager) that we would be refunded but as of yet he has not responded to my e-mails or made any type of refund or attempt to correspond with us. Another employee from Rent Key West called us to dunn us for two sets of keys that we accidently got home with and I had already e-mailed them two days before and apologized for the oversight and had informed them I mailed them immediately upon realizing we had them. He of course never read the e-mail. Be careful using this management company because they were not very reliable. We used Key West Rentals which is 3 doors down from them for the last few years and they were much better and the houses were much cleaner and better maintained. They also took care of any problems we had unlike Rent Key West.

This house just had the decks sanded and stained so we are not sure where the ants came from. They are nomadic creatures so a nearby nest must of been stirred up. We did tend to this problem while the guest was here and we were very 'present' about it. Unfortunately this guest was never satified with our attempts.

Left on 01/27/2013 for a stay in January 2013
This was not our first stay at Villa Tropicale and we certainly intend to come back. When we first opened the gate of the property a few years ago, we were delighted to discover it far exceeded our expectations. The photographs on the website do not actually do justice to the beauty of the place! Truly lovely, spacious, comfortable house, every detail attesting to the good taste of the owner. The secluded garden is vast and gorgeous, and it has a very nice pool- one that actually deserves to be called a pool. The whole property is very well maintained. This is a place one hates to leave.
Rent Key West cares very much about its customers. We already knew that, having dealt with them a few times before, but this year they really went out of their way to accommodate us. Our circumstances were a bit complicated. We got a warm, friendly welcome from Steve Ruh who was so helpful. The staff at RKW is competent and responsible. We absolutely recommend both the Villa and the agency. -

We visited during New Year's week. This was a perfect spot for our family of nine, with a large house for our gatherings and a separate bungalow for the oldsters to turn in early when the youngsters were still going strong. The kids (age 3 to 13) loved the pool and many happy hours were spent splashing away. The grounds are gorgeous and well cared for. The house is beautifully decorated and maintained. We made many happy memories here and hope to return.

The entire stay was wonderful. Check-in, gardener, pool boy, everyone was so helpful and polite. The home itself was exactly how it was portrayed on line. The home is in a residential area a distance from Duval street, so we rented bikes and got around that way. I would love to stay there again, it was a beautiful home.

Villa Tropicale met our expectations in every way- and we did have high expectations from info, photos on website. The house is great for a group. Though the house is fully equipped, including a kitchen with everything needed to cook and even bake, and beautifully decorated, the outdoor areas are even better. The villa's pool, cabana and gardens live up to its "Tropicale" name and the porches and french doors from every room take full advantage of the setting. We would definitely stay there again.

Left on 11/30/2011 for a stay in November 2011
We rented for a week and our grown children and mates came in different times of the week. Everyone was there for Thanksgiving day which was 10 and then we had 4 guests to join us for dinner. With DR table and all the tables outside we had plenty of room. The whole house is lovely and with the landscaping, you are very secluded. The landscaping is beautiful. Enjoyed very much and would go back in a minute!!

Left on 06/30/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We had an absolutely wonderful time at Villa Tropicale. We loved the house. It was perfect for our grown children (no grandchildren, but it would be good for them as well)and us. We rented biked and explored the whole area, stopping for lunch at some of the darling restaurants. When we had an issue with our barbeque grill, it was addressed by management the very next day and we were very appreciative. When we come to Key West in the future, we would certainly consider renting this property again. Thank you. Alice S.

Louisville KentuckyAwesome compound - second time here!!!
Left on 10/14/2009 for a stay in October 2009
Great house and cottage and truly a Key West compound. I have rented homes all over Key West for 20+ years and this is one of the best. The pool and deck area is the best by a large margin and grounds are fantastic. Brad made the rental process very easy with good communication both by phone and email.
Looking forward to a third visit to Villa Tropicale! -

Colorado Springs, ColoradoPrivate tropical paradise
Left on 07/09/2009 for a stay in June 2009
Villa Tropicale is beautiful. Once we entered the compound and locked
the gate, we were in our own private world. The house is lovely, well-
appointed and tastefully decorated. The grounds and pool are as inviting as
the photos on the website indicate. Two families of 4 (with teens 14-19)
had sufficient space and enjoyed just hanging out, swimming, watching
Wimbeldon, cooking fresh seafood, and playing games. We rented bicycles,
which provided instant reliable (and fun) transportation for everyone.
The island was fun, with many good restaurants, distinctive architecture,
and interesting people-watching. The beaches were a bit of a
disappointment...no good snorkling unless you are willing to take a full day
boat trip to the Dry Tortugas.
The Rent Key West staff was friendly and helpful. We had one problem.
When the outdoor grill ran out of propane, it took them over 24 hours to
replace it, which was inconvenient. Otherwise, we were satisfied with the
service.
The trip would not have been nearly as enjoyable had we stayed in a hotel
or condo. Villa Tropicale is not inexpensive, but the experience was worth
every penny. -

Detroit, MIRelaxation in paradise
Left on 06/25/2009 for a stay in July 2008
We rented the house (and the guest house) for one week to accommodate 8
people. One couple stayed in the guest house for more privacy, while the
rest of the family occupied the main house. We were greeted promptly on
our arrival and were shown everything we needed to know about the house.
The house was just like the pictures, and there was plenty of room for
everyone to relax and not be on top of each other...there were rooms we
didn't even use!
The house was well located, so shopping and dining was easily accessible.
We did have a car, so I'm not sure what it would have been like without
transportation, but that was not a problem for us. We used the pool the
whole time we were there, and found it to be well maintained. I don't know
when I've spent a more relaxing week.
Our only concern was an infestation of tiny ants (apparently called "sugar
ants") that got into our food supply. When we called the management
service about these, they sent someone right out to spray, who also advised
us to keep all open food in the refrigerator. It would have been helpful to
know that from the start, as we may have attracted fewer of the ants that
way. But this was a relatively minor issue, and certainly not enough to keep
me from encouraging anyone to rent this house in paradise for a truly
enjoyable vacation. -

We were in awe when we opened the gate and say the immense tropical foliage within the gardens and surrounding the pool. Could it get any better than this? Then we went inside the home and cottage and found out it could get better. The place was gorgeous and very accomodating. We loved our stay there and will go back.

Charlotte, NCThe coolest house ever!
Left on 06/18/2009 for a stay in November 2008
I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to stay in Key West with a group of friends. It offers the best of both worlds....You could never leave the property and have a wonderful time or a quick cab ride and you're at Duval Street. Our group ventured off on a day trip to the Dry Tortugas, which was set up by the properties conceier service...and that was awesome...all we had to do was show up at the dock.
The house is the coolest place I've ever stayed. We had a group of 8 and you could spread out and feel like you were the only one home. From the moment you walk onto the property you'll feel like you're in paradise!
