Rocky Mountain House, AB, Canadastay at kihei akahi c- 605 -needs major upgrade
Left on 03/24/2012 for a stay in March 2012
The Kihei Akahi is a wonderful place to stay - the grounds are emaculate, both swimmming pools clean and well maintained, the bar b ques were nice to have, the location great - right across the street from the beach. The condo we stayed in was a bit disappointing and needs some major upgrades!!! the carpeting in the bedroom badly stained, the bathroom tub faucet could not be shut off completely. It is obvious that a unit that is 40 years old has not had any TLC except for the laminate flooring - the furniture is a bit outdated especially on the lanai. I did phone the number for Hawaii Holiday Vac. regarding the bathroom issue but never heard anything back. With upgrade this unit and property would rate a 5+ satifaction. thanks for the opportunity to evaluate. 4th trip to Maui and we love the island!!

Thank you so much for your review. We know this unit needs upgrades and we DO work with the owner as much as possible and the unit has had upgrades in the last year including all new paint, removing a popcorn ceiling and many minor fixes. We'll keep working on it and in the meantime, we do discount the price to make up for it. Most guests find that it is priced right. Mahalo, Hawaii Holiday Management

Left on 03/13/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Maui is my favourite Island in Hawaii. Kihei and Wailea give you the best opportunity for good conditions. I would definitely return as this is my third stay at Akahi Condos. I do need to become more familiar with the weather seasons as March seems to be the worst.

Mahalo for your nice review! Those of us who live in Hawaii can attest the weather is hard to predict. While the Winter months are more likely to have a chill and rain, they can also provide weeks of warm sun. We hope you hit a sunnier patch on your next visit! Aloha, Hawaii Holiday Management

Houston, BC, CanadaC 605 needs a little attention
Left on 03/12/2012 for a stay in February 2012
When we arrived late at night, the key code had changed but we were not told. It was a negative start. We love the location but this aartment wasoor value for our dollar. Facets leaked and did not close fully.Woodstrips were loose on the flooring giving creaking sounds. Thre were only a few glasses available . . . e.g. one champagne glass. The constant work on the elevators meant we could not sleep in and were often inconvenienced. The condo itself showed many signs of aging and needs a major investment in upgrading and refurbishing.

Thank you for your honest review. There was nothing we could do about the elevator noise and since you were here for high season, finding alternate accomodations is almost impossible. This condo has been continually upgraded including a new range this fall 2012. Mahalo, Hawaii Holiday Management

Left on 02/07/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We loved the place. It was the cleanest place we have ever rented. The only bad things were that the bed was really squeaky. I would suggest maybe a board between the mattress or a new one. Otherwise the place was great. Location was a 10 as well. We've never been to maui before and we didn't quite know where to stay but this was so convenient to everything. We loved it and we will definitely be back. Thanks for the wonderful experience.

Some of the furniture,tv,bed past use-by date.
Safe broken. Bed mattress needs replacing immediately. Bed linen with patches. Stained & dirty bedroom carpet. Leaky tap in bath. Dirty lamp shades. This unit could be great if items mentioned were addressed. Two biggest disapointments were the bed and lack of a safe. -

Left on 02/05/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We have stayed at this property before and really love the location. The view from the 6th floor lanai is perfect - coffee in the morning as you watch the sunrise and wine in the evening as you watch the sunset over the water. Our only complaint is it needs a little cosmetic sprucing up - curtains were stained, rug in living room is old, lampshades are dented and a little stained and bedroom carpet is stained. It is a lovely condo otherwise and we would recommend it to others.

Left on 12/14/2011 for a stay in December 2011
We were very pleasantly surprised by the great view from the lanai! The carpet in the bedroom was stained and the closet in the bedroom had a musty smell, probably from the beach equipment being kept in there on the carpet. The bed was quite comfortable, but pretty squeaky, and we woke each other up almost every time we turned over during the night.
The furniture was great and the condo had pretty much everything we needed during our stay. The kitchen was well equipped, but we couldn't get the oven to work on the stove, however we did discover that you can bake an apple pie on the BBQ by the pool! The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. All in all, this condo is a great value for the money and we would stay there again. -

Left on 12/02/2011 for a stay in November 2011
We rented unit C 605 at the Kehei Akahi and we would like to inform you of some concerns that you should be aware of. The water taps in the bathtub/shower dripped steady...a bucket of water every couple of hours and you could not control the temperature of the water. There were no small appliances eg. blender, kettle, mixmaster etc.The knives wouldn't cut butter. The electrical outlets need repair. The room itself is very nice and the view is very good. All carpets should be discarded. There is a sign in the bathtub to use the supplied cleaner of their own of which there was none.
We have stayed at the same complex before many times and have never been disappointed....We will be going to Maui next year for a month and we would like to rent a place that has been renovated or modernized as we visited another couple and they had a renovated unit for less money than we paid.Response from Hawaii Holiday Vacation Rentals - 12/11/2011

We appreciate the feedback on your perspective of the condo. Had the guest informed us of these matters upon their arrival, we would have done everything possible to make them right, including the option for a Full Refund if the resolution offered would not have been satisfactory. The living and sleeping areas have been recently upgraded with wood floors etc -- kitchen is next on the list. ;) It is unfortunate the guest stay was unpleasant when these complaints were certainly matters that could have been taken care of immediately! We have stayed at this property before and love it. It is conveniently located, has a great view, clean and is roomy enough for two. There are two pools that you usually have to yourself. The beach is right across the street. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice place to stay will on Maui. It's also reasonably priced.

Left on 02/02/2011 for a stay in January 2011
I was surprised at the condition of this particular unit. It needs a good cleaning. dishes were dirty as were the silk plants. I don't know how old those beds were but they were brutal. The plastic cover on our bed was hideous but I was afraid to take it off. We had to buy a foam pad for the sofa bed so it was somewhat bearable. the bathroom fan never shut off and the front left side burner is broken on the stove. I think the owner must never sleep there. A bad bed can ruin a vacation. the shower head was useless too. The phone in the bedroom didn't work at all. Not sure if all the units are as bad as this one but I would be nervous about staying there again. |Suggesting leaving a tip for the cleaning people was laughable as it looked like the unit hadn't received a thorough cleaning in at least two years.

This unit has been difficult for us but we are continuing to work with the owner to upgrade it. Our cleaning staff is VERY capable but even a fantastic cleaning on a shabby unit can still feel dirty. The unit is advertised as a moderate condo and has been priced accordingly.

We're currently working with the owner to paint the interior and repair the minor issues in this unit, however during the winter season with high occupancy, larger projects like this will end up waiting until there is more time between reservation. In the meantime, the overall rate for this unit has been reduced to reflect the moderate accommodations, when compared to the other Kihei Akahi units we represent.

Generally satisfied (we have stayed in other similar properties). Biggest issue was that compared to other units in the same building which we spent time in (family & freinds), 605 is in need of an upgrade - it has nowhere near the same level of furnishings, amenities or overall decore that other units do (a bit disappointing). Tub faucet dripped badly, stove had one burner not working well, kitchen layout not as open as others, old appliances and electronics in general. However, overall still quite pleasant, good views and great location and building. Would recommend property but advice would be choose another room if possible.

Kihei Akahi C-605 is a moderately priced unit. It is not our best unit, but it is nicer than many of the units at Kihei Akahi offered by other rental agents or directly by owners. The unit is clean, nicely furnished and decorated, and has a great view. The guest paid a discounted rate that was very reasonable for the unit in its present condition, and other guests have paid more for the same unit and have been entirely satisfied. However, we recognize that people have different tastes and expectations, which is why we offer our money-back guarantee within the first 24 hours. That is an exceptional guarantee, and if a guest takes advantage of it we don't even charge for the night already stayed. However, after 24 hours we have lost almost all opportunity to re-rent the property, so we do have to insist on the 24-hour time limit in order to provide a refund. We offered the guest a full refund but he chose to remain in the unit.

The view and location were wonderful. The unit itself needs to be upgraded as it is showing its age. A good cleaning would be in order as well since the bedroom carpet is stained and the baseboards need wiping down. The outside glass and screen were very dirty and the tub is in poor shape. If the cleaning was done the condo would present itself much better.

The complex is lovely and in a great spot. The management was great about letting us have a late checkout. But, the unit itself needs a coat of paint and some plumbing updates and a new washer/dryer. And, the housekeeping was pretty poor. I don't think the glass top tables have been really clean for a long time. Same with faucets and tub. The view was better than expected from the lanai.

The guest never contacted us during her 10-day stay even though we provide a 24 x 7 cellphone number for someone who could have addressed any concerns or problems. The guests before and after her praised the property, so we had no idea anything was wrong until we received this review two weeks after departure. Left on 11/05/2008 for a stay in November 2008
I've traveled on business and pleasure to 100+ places and just recently started seeking out condos for the convenience of a kitchen and extra space compared to hotels. I have now had two unbelievable condo experiences in Maui. Akahi was my second condo and I didn't expect a great deal because of the very reasonable rate I chose on my budget. The entrance was the first pleasant surprise, and it didn't stop there. The grounds were great. The elevator was prompt, and the room and view better than advertised. It had EVERYTHING I wanted for my stay including good snorkel gear, great beach chairs, a beach umbrella, tons of towels and all the kitchen utensils you'd ever want on vacation. Good TV and DVD, OK CD /radio and even a washer and dryer. VERY comfy bed and sheets with gobs of pillows. My only complaint is that the trade wind would whistle around the front door when closed and the bath with nice tile floors had older fixtures. Who cares. Everything was clean and I could walk in a minute to the beach, restaurants, groceries, shops and even a decent night club for music. My stay was perfect. My thanks to Hawaii Holiday and the owners.
