We arrived the last week of May, 2013. The house smelled like it had been closed up for quite awhile. The bathrooms and kitchen had been touched up by the regular cleaning folks, but the rest was a mess. The "New, comfortable furnishings" in the living room had food stains, and the chairs and futon in the play room looked like they had urine stains-the game stations did not have complete sets and were not useable-big disappointment to the kids! But after seeing the nasty chairs/futon, we just closed off the room and didn't use it. The one chair in the living room was so brown with stains, you could barely see the original white fabric! The beds had no blankets, and the comforters on all of the beds had stains on them-disgusting. Housekeeping sent over fresh comforters and blankets the next day, explaining that the reason the house was so dirty was because the owners had not yet come in to do their spring cleaning on the house yet. Our question is why would you rent out a house that had not been cleaned?? The "Well-stocked kitchen": pots, pans, and most of the dishware were dirty with dust and/or food! A previous review said the owners had updated the pots and pans-This is not true! There was a mixture of one or two pots here and there, and that's it! The mixer was from the 70's-and I think most of the rest were as well! The cupboard paper was disgusting-dusty, stained, with an odd bug here and there. We purchased a few pans of our own, and just ate out the rest of the time-a bit of an extra expense. There was a hole in the floor in one bedroom that went thru to the laundry room - noisy, and a door for bugs that kept one child from sleeping. The beach chairs were thick with rust and dry-rot, unsafe! I will spare you the pictures for now. Southern Shores asked us to write our issues down. After 7 wks of not hearing anything I called them. They are sending us 150.00 compensation. I would prefer a letter explaining why they rented a house in such poor repair. Read more
Ms. Fitzpatrick, both Southern Shores Realty and the owner of this property take pride in providing the best vacation experience possible. When you had first called about the house being dirty, we did offer to send a cleaning crew over to address your concerns, but you refused the service. This property was professionally Spring Cleaned on April 15, 2013, so you were misinformed if you were told that it had not been done. The guests that stayed at the property the week prior to you were the first guests of the season and reported no issues like the ones you experienced. The Spring Clean Requirements list is a very extensive list that we will be happy to forward to you if you would like to see it. Since your initial letter, the owner has again replaced the kitchen items that needed replacing and will continue to do so as the need arises. The hole in the closet floor is something that came about when the bathroom was remodeled (a new shower was installed and the pool was added). That issue will be addressed during the next turnover day.

This house was a just what we were looking for. Quiet neighborhood with a private pool, great walking trails close to the sound, minutes to the beach and great food. The "game room" was great to entertain the kids while the Adults were able to watch adult TV or just talk. We got a lot of use out of the sandbox by the pool and the pool itself was just devine! There were 2 things that could have been better: 1) the wireless network - we could only get a signal right beside the router. We called several times but was not able to get any resolution on this problem; and 2) Very limited Pots & pans. I love to cook, so it was frustrating to have to wash the same pot to use 3 times over in the same meal.
We have never stayed in this area, so far from the beach before, however, we really enjoyed our stay. We hope to have the time to return to this house next year. Read more
We thank you for your review, and wanted to let you know that since your stay the owner has done a major pots/pans upgrade, and has also fixed the WiFi service.
Comfortable relaxing stay, but no WiFi as promised stated in pro

I normally stay in Southern Shores, at a bigger house but had less people this year, so I scaled down. It was very nice, especially the pool, it was a pleasant surprise. They had rafts there, I had never used that kind before, but I will definitely be using them in the future. The house was clean and comfortable, a little more living room furniture would be good. There was no bathroom at the pool, so if you needed to go, you had to go up the steps and in the house. There was a GREAT Tiki Bar at the pool though, it made it fun.
The master bath was very small, I didn't stay in that bedroom, but my friend did, and that was her comment..
We were centrally located to everything, which I liked better, because I don't like driving 30 minutes to go eat. It was on the soundside and there were a couple of small beach areas that was in walking distance...
The most irritating thing was no WiFi, I tried to call the cable company and work it out, but it ended up that it was a bad cable line, which needed a scheduled(2-3 days)service call, and I did not feel it was my responsibility to stay there and wait on a tech..I read the little book and that had been an issue all the way back in June. So my question is why wasn't it repaired?
I liked the place itself and would stay there again. Read more
