Description from the owner

Built in 1822 the beautifully restored Priory Coach House and Courtyard to The Priory. The Coach House has two floors with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, the downstairs is an open plan with wood burning fireplace, modern kitchen, spiral staircase to the bedrooms. Very charming and cozy. Walking distance from the town centre.

Set on the door step of Killarney National Park we have four Courtyard Stone Cottages all of various design and layout. The cottages are tucked into a very beautiful and quite walled courtyard setting.

Lovely, definitely best self catering we've found in Killarney

Left on 03/15/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Getting a nice self catering property in Killarney is a bit of a challenge we've found over the many times we've stayed there. There is nothing worse than an unloved holiday rental.

The priory cottages are at the other end of the spectrum. They are individual, a bit quirky, well thought through with nice touches. The hosts are lovely and the wood burning stove was a god send. Wi-fi great for being able to work surf.

There were a couple of things we would have changed, but they were minor and are the kind of touches that would move these holiday cottages into Bruern territory in terms of quality. A welcome pack would have been a lovely touch, more information on the local area and things to do and some tiny decorative changes. Blinds on the velux please to keep the kids sleeping!!!

All of the above are nit picking as we had a lovely week in a lovely place.

      A great, comfortable stay

Left on 03/14/2013 for a stay in January 2013

We stayed at The Priory -- on very short notice -- in February 2013. Given how close it was to our arrival date, we didn't know what to expect. But we were so pleased. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment. The living room with the peet fireplace was warm and comforting (since we stayed during February). We ate breakfast every day at the house and dinner one night. All the tools you'd need were there. The bedrooms and bathrooms were both super comfortable. Considering how old the property is, the renovations on the place were truely spectacular. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
(Oh, and the location was great. We stayed 4 nights and used it as the base of our operation to visit Limerick, Ardfert, Ring of Kerry and Cork ... especially in the winter it isn't crowded in the least there -- despite what Rick Steves may have to say.)

      Just gorgeous..

Left on 12/17/2012 for a stay in December 2012

I found this place by accident on the Net and I'm so glad I did. it was just gorgeous in so many ways. We stayed in Teach Mor. The stonework was beautiful and everything had been thought about and provided for, down to bedside reading lights. Tim gave us some tips on local entertainment which we thoroughly enjoyed and also some travel tips which proved very valuable. My own gripe is ...that we couldn't stay longer!! However, Tim issued me a challenge and I have to come back within a certain time and i hope to meet that challenge and stay for at least a week.

      Exceptional stay at the Priory

Left on 10/13/2012 for a stay in September 2012

This is a special place to stay with so much character and the host, Tim, is truly wonderful. He organized a musician to come and entertain the friends and families staying in his cottages; we enjoyed lively music by the fire with new friends - it was fabulous! The cottages and property are so lovely; all modern amenities with a cozy historical setting. Great location if you have a car; but even if you don't, taxi is 5 euro to town (or 15 minute walk) for grocery shopping and 10 minute walk to the abbey. Renting a bike was also a great idea to see the beautiful area. This is a perfect base to explore the area and you can really settle in to the cottage as your home. They had a high chair for our little boy and a playground on site; a magical place for the little ones to explore. Overall, a memorable stay and highly recommended.

Stop Looking! The Priory is perfect

Left on 09/03/2012 for a stay in August 2012

My family of 12 stayed at the Main House of The Priory in august 2012. Tim and Bernadette have transformed these buildings and grounds perfectly - with wonderful attention to detail and character. The main house is not just a house...it's a home. We felt so welcome and comfy. From Bernadette's homemade scones, to a welcome dinner that Tim's brother made for us our first night, to their children and dogs who blended in perfectly with our crew, we were completely at ease and comfortable. The home is wonderfully situated a short walk from 3 pubs, and an easy walk or drive to Muckross House and various trails and sights around town. Each morning Tim would greet us, listen to our plans, and give us even better suggestions to perfect our day. He would arrange drivers, boatmen and solo hikes. And his cheery "top o'the mornin' to ya" made our trip the quintessential Irish family gathering.

Just a perfect vacation in every way.

Left on 07/09/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We stayed two weeks at The Priory in "An Tigan",a one bedroom cottage. It has a fully equipped kitchen and very comfortable living room and bedroom. First Class accommodation.
It was off the main street which made it very quiet and private. The location is perfect for walking to town or the National Park. We rented bicycles and toured the park for 7 days. Just beautiful. (Tim's friend rented the bicycles to us at a reasonable rate.)
Tim and Bernadette and their family are very helpful with suggestions and even came to the door one morning with homemade scones for breakfast. Tim was working everyday at planting flowers so I am sure by now it is like a botanical garden. Many of our friends are hoping to visit the same place. It is a beautiful part of Ireland.

Myself, my husband and our two kids (ages 6 and 8) stayed at the Priory Killarney (in hte Teach Mor cottage) in april for one week and it was marvelous! I have since advised our friends to look no further - this place has it all. Amazing location - perfectly situated if you want to tour the Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Gap of Dunloe...and very close to downtown Killarney. Amazing hosts - Tim and Bernadette were wonderful and warm and always available to answer any questions. Our cottage was impeccable, clean and very roomy and comfortable. We enjoyed coming home to our cottage and relaxing in front of the fireplace. I will recommend this place to everyone!

      Best stay in Ireland...

Left on 06/02/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We stayed here for 4 nights in May- my husband and I plus another couple. Everything about the Coach House was perfect- it looked exactly like the pictures, was extemely well stocked and comfortable and a great location but best of all were Tim and Bernadette. They are warm, friendly and very helpful...Overall, Killarney was the highlight of my trip (don't believe all the guide books about it being too touristy...we loved the National Park area, hiking throught the Gap of Dunloe). It was an excellent base for day trips to Dingle, Ring of Kerry etc. I'd go back to Killarney and I'd stay at the Priory!

I really want to thank Tim and Bernadette for a wonderful trip to Killarney. The house is just gorgeous and the hosts could not e warm and hospitable. Both Tim and Bernadette went above and beyond to make sure that our group had a great time.

The house is warm and tastefully decorated. It is very functional and you should make use of the fireplace on those chilly Irish nights. It is a very short walk to town so after a few pints you can avoid driving.

I recommend The Priory 100%. Thanks again Tim and Bernadette.

      Great holiday rental

Left on 04/30/2012 for a stay in March 2012

3 generations stayed in the coach house over Easter 2012 and all loved it.

The O'Donoghue's were really helpful and friendly and the actual Coach House has been well done. We particularly loved the open fire, where you can make use of the wood and peat stacks.

We would definitely recommend this to friends and family. Though if I were to give a heads up, it is slightly more urban set than we initially imagined from the pictures - this didn't turn out to be a bad thing, just that we initially had in our minds a slightly more rural setting. Better wireless connectivity would also be good - albeit we probably should have put away the devices for a holiday in Killarney!

Fabulous accomdations, great location, who could ask for more?

Left on 04/14/2012 for a stay in October 2011

I stayed at the Priory in October with three friends and we could not have been more pleased with our stay. It was our first time in Ireland, and, thanks to Tim and Bernadette, it was a most informative and enjoyable visit. When we arrived, stressed from our drive from Dublin and learning to drive on the “wrong” side of the road, Tim was kind enough to drive us into Killarney for dinner! The Priory is in an excellent location to explore western Ireland and within walking distance to Killarney. The facilities are superb; it has the look of an old Irish coach house, but inside, it has been completely updated with a gourmet kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and modern bathrooms. Between the homemade scones and jam that Bernadette brought over to us, and all the helpful suggestions from Tim and his wonderful family, we could not have been more pleased with our visit. With Tim at the wheel, we saw many areas around the Ring of Kerry that the bus trips miss, and his numerous conversations with the locals on the way revealed to us just how much the Irish love to share the “lore” with visitors. I would highly recommend the Priory to anyone considering a stay in western Ireland.

This was the most vacation friendly place I've ever stayed. The O'Donoghues were friendly and very welcoming. The lodging was very roomy and comfortable. The beds were excellent! We both slept well each night. The fireplace works, and the appliances modern and functional. The location is perfect for sightseeing counties Kerry, Clare, cork and beyond. Bernadette even brought us fresh, warm scones with butter and jam one morning. The coach house is beatifully and comfortably decorated and furnished. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

My husband and two children & I stayed in this property for three nights, during our stay we met the owners upon arrival & check out only, we knew they were only a short walk away and if I had needed anything I would have knocked on the office door, however, the property was so well kitted out that there was absolutely nothing extra needed, from detergent to turf , hand soap to hairdryer, everything was there, a real home from home. The decor is beautiful too, plenty of solid decent furniture, the beds were exceptionally comfortable, and the ensuite shower was divine to use. The only issue I now have is that I will want to stay here and nowhere else ,every time we visit Kerry!

Great Place, Great Location, Great Hosts

Left on 01/24/2012 for a stay in August 2011

Beautiful home rental within a 10 minute walk of Killarney. We rented the coach house and it was a fantastic home base for a weeklong vacation of County Kerry and the surrounding area. The home was the original 1800's coach house that was redone a few years ago. The owner TIm kept the original stone walls and kept it feeling old with all the modern touches; full kitchen, washer and dryer, etc. Tim was a great tour guide for getting us off the beaten path away from the everyday tourist places and seeing parts of Ireland that were amazing (and some good pubs also!) Killarney gets a bad rap for being Touristy (it can be with the tour buses all day), but this home is on the edge of town close to the national park and still any easy walk to the pubs at night. Killarney was fun at night and had some great restaurants. I highly recommend the Priory to couples or families or groups; we will be coming back.

Perfect Place to Stay in Kerry

Left on 12/04/2011 for a stay in November 2011

If you are considering a self-catering rental for your vacation in Ireland, this is the perfect place. We stayed at the Priory in the Coach house and it was amazing. Tim and Bernadette are gracious hosts and fantastic cooks. They make you feel very welcomed, are there when they need you, but yet still give you the privacy you need.

The house was comfortable and warm. You get a sense of the history of the area staying here, with so much charm, but also have modern conveniences. Sitting by the peat fire every night was a wonderful way to end each of our days after being out and about hiking, walking, and shopping. I loved cooking in the kitchen and really appreciated the large gas stove. The beds were large and comfortable and it was really nice having both bedrooms en suite.

The location of the Priory is fantastic! It is so close to the national park, that has walking and hiking trails. The Muckross house and Muckross abbey are wonderful to visit. Also Torc waterfall and Mountain are incredible to see and walk. Ross Castle is also just down the road. The town of Killarney is just up the road with many great places to shop and eat. All of these things are less than a ten minute drive.

A little further out is the Dingle Peninsula. We visited the town of Dingle and it was very cute. It has shops, great pubs, and boat tours. Further out on the Peninsula you can see the Dunbeg Fort that was built around 500 BC. There are many historic sites out on the peninsula. Also, driving through the area gives you fantastic views of cliffs, beaches, and mountains. Connor's pass is beautiful, albeit a bit scary to drive through. I would recommend this drive for sure, but not on the first day in the country if you are not used to driving on the left.Cork and the Blarney Castle are also within driving distance and a great day trip from the Priory.

We had such a wonderful time in Ireland and staying in the Kerry area was such a highlight of our trip. We are already starting to plan the next trip back, and our extended family wants to join us. We will for sure be staying at the Priory again and love how there are multiple places to stay so you can accommodate a small family of three like ours, or multiple members of your extended family.

      Perfect!

Left on 08/15/2011 for a stay in June 2011

This was a multi-generation trip. We had Grandparents, Parents and Grandchildren and this location was perfect!
Bedrooms for everyone and plenty of space to spread out and gather together for meals or sit by the fire and read, play games or plan out the next days activities. We used Killarney as the starting point for lots of exploration.
Tim, the owner, was extremely knowledgeable about all of Ireland and his suggestions on places to see and things to do was so much more than we could get out of our guidebooks. ThePriory is just off the main road and so close to everything but felt off the beaten path and was a welcome oasis after a day of travel/sightseeing.
My boys so enjoyed gathering firewood and building fires and my daughter loved exploring the gardens and picking herbs with her grandfather for dinner.
The Priory has multiple accommodations and would be a superb spot for several families to vacation together so I'm hoping we can come back soon and bring even more of the family.
Many thanks to Tim and Bernadette for everything we could have hoped for from our trip and more!

Fantastic accommodations Near the Centre of Killarney

Left on 08/10/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Our entire family stayed at The Priory, with a group of 16, including a number of young children. This place was just perfect. Close enough to walk to the city centre (about 15 min stroll) but far enough to enjoy solitude on the large grounds right next to the park. Even with poor weather the first few days, there was enough to keep everyone occupied in and around the house. The buildings and landscaping are all gorgeous and have tons of room. I can't say enough about the hospitality of the hosts (Tim and Bernadette), who extended the typical Irish hospitality and helped us organize cooking classes, day trips and much more. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Priory Carriage House in Killarney! Tim and Bernadette were simply fantastic - met us upon arrival, gave us great tips on hikes, pubs, and restaurants, and allowed us as much privacy as we desired.

The duplex rental is simply stunning. It is all renovated and has the nicest amenities. We all wish it could be our actual house! We had two couples staying in the two upstairs rooms, and it was plenty of room for four adults. Our bathroom had a jacuzzi tub and rainshower. Both were wonderful!

The kitchen is award-worthy. It was so fun for us to cook in such a great kitchen, and the living area is comfortable and cozy. There is a clothes washer and dryer, and a dishwasher as well.

If you want to use Killarney as your base to explore Co. Kerry, reserve this apartment! It is amazing!

      Outstanding

I rarely take the time to write a review but our trip was so enjoyable...this stay deserves a write up. Absolutely loved our stay at The Priory in Killarney. We traveled with my in-laws and 3 children to Ireland in June of 2009. The location and accommodations were perfect. This house has a ton of space and even more charm. It's the largest home I've ever rented. It's beauttifully decorated, very clean but also includes many of todays modern conveniences...a must with kids. The kitchen is one of the nicests and largest I've seen in a rental. The house is located just a 10 minute walk to the town center. It sits on a beautful property with fanstastic views of Killarney National Park...Torc and Mangerton Moutains in the background.

The owners added to the enjoyment of our stay. They were incedibly accommodating...providing restaurant, shopping and sight seeing recommendations. They also run a tour business and we hired them for two separate half day hikes up Mangerton and Torc mountain. These hikes were one of the highlights of our trip. The views from the top are truly amazing. If you stay here, I would absolutely recommend you sign up for the hikes. My in-laws and kids all climbed Torc...gorgeous views of the Lakes of Killarney while at the top. Mangerton is a bit more stenuous so I took my two oldest kids on this climb. Magerton has a natural lake at the top known as 'The Devil's Punch Bowl"...amazing. If your looking for a really memorable stay...check out The Priory in Killarney...you won't be disappointed.

The O'Donoghues (proprietors) were great hosts - great recommendations on local attractions, and went out of their way to make sure our stay was great.
