A little chilly and grubby but a lovely little cottage in a pret

The cottage was lovely with a well equipped kitchen and cosy cottage feel. There was however, a couple of things that let it down. It was very cold in the bedrooms at night time (even with the heating on) and absolutely no heating in the kitchen, however there was plenty of coal and wood supplied for the fire! The cottage itself was a bit grubby and could've done with a hoover before we arrived.
The Bay Horse Inn just down the road is run by a lovely lady and filled with friendly locals. A perfect location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales with lots of good local walks.
Despite the chilly temperature and the slightly dirty carpets we would definitely return to Rook Cottage!

Kirby Stephens was lovely as was the village of Winton the cottage unfortunately was a let down.It did not state in the discription that it had a shared front garden. This was a problem due to having 2 small dogs with us and the gate being left open each time the ajoining neighbours went out. But mainly the cottage was not clean. The open fireplace was absolutely packed with ash and cinders and had a few clean coals to cover this up. It took quite a while to clean and it was a very dirty job. There was food left in the kitchen cupboards and freezer with personal property in cupboards and places. It seemed as though the place had been vacated in a hurry to accommodate us. We were just happy that the location was so lovely. I would be wary of booking with you again.
nice cottage but!

lovely village with a nice pub. Close to all areas
The inside was pretty but wall paper starting to come away in both bedrooms, cracked tile in kitchen and bins were not emptied when we arrived also raw meat left in fridge
Don't get me wrong we had a nice time but just a little let down

Had an excellent stay. Invited to a diamond jubilee party on arrival so joined the village on the green and were plied with tea and cakes : ) Rook Cottage was a good size, very clean and obviously well cared for. Beautiful surroundings and a great place to escape from the more busy tourist areas but still with easy access and many beautiful things on the doorstep! Lovely!
tyne and wear
Relaxing, friendly and a great get away.

My partner, Pooch and I stayed at rook cottage for 4 nights. The cottage was cosy and in a pleasent little village. Pub close by and extremely close to kirkby Stephen. People in the village were lovely. Walks close by for the dog and in an ideal location to explore the lakes.
Cosy cottage ideally located for exploring Eden/dales border.

Warm and cosy cottage. Tastefully presented with clean and comfortable furnishings. Winton is a small village with friendly locals but we wouldn't recommend the food at the local pub- very disappointing meal and didn't consider it value for money. Limited walks for dogs in the village unless you take your wellies but surrounding areas are beautiful. Cottage is well situated for easy reach of the Dales and Lakes.
