SheffieldA luxury break in Cumbria
Left on 01/19/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We stayed in the Heavenfield apartment for 4 nights in between Christmas and New Year. The apartment was a very good size and had everything you could possible want. The furniture and fittings were a really high quality and although modern fitted in well with the period and style of the building. The key code entry system worked no problem, although we did find the main door open on a couple of occasions the second door was always locked tight. We spent our days exploring the surrounding areas and the apartment was a really great place to come back to in the evenings, really warm and homely. I would say that you do need a car if you stay here as the roads immediately around the house are narrow country lanes (as you would expect) but within 10 minutes you reach major 'A' roads and motorways. Just a couple of negatives: the bed was uncomfortable for us but that doesn't mean that it would be for anyone else, I'm sure it would be impossible to find a mattress that suited every guest; also I think the bathroom of the apartment upstairs was directly above our bedroom as we could very clearly hear it been used during the night but I guess there isn't much that can be done about soundproofing in an old building. The positives of Staffield Hall far outweigh the negatives: It's in a great location for exploring the Lake District and even the Scottish Borders; the house and grounds are beautiful; we instantly felt 'at home' there and you'll find it very difficult to get that much luxury in that price range anywhere else in Cumbria.
