Winchester VATerrible housekeeping by Resort Realty
Left on 09/05/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We stayed at the Sea Dunes august 2012. It was about our 3rd time at because we love the location. It is close to everything and several restarants in walking distance. When we arrived We were looking forward to getting into our condo and starting our vacation. I must say I was disgusted at the condition of the unit...very dirty as if the cleaning crew may have made a couple sweeps with the vacuum in the living room and put the paper strips across the toilet bowl. Huge piece of pizza crust on steps, tons of sand on bathroom floors and rugs. Dirty sinks with something that looked like dead bugs in the wet bar sink. The showers and tubs were very dirty also with hair and black foot prints on the floor. Kitchen counters had crumbs in numerous places and dining table had something sticky all over it. I called and complained and they sent someone over to clean in about and hour and a half. This is just not a good way to start your vacation when you spend all that money you don't want to deal with filth when u first walk in. Resort Realty has offered a little discount on our next stay, which is really just the amount of the ridculous "processing fee" they charge that no one could tell me what that was for. I suggested they use some of that money to train their cleaning staff and implement a check list of what was done at the property (cleaning wise) so each guest checking in could see what they said was cleaned and the staff would be held accountable for that. After we got our place cleaned we had a great time. The condo is spacious and well equipped so that combined with the cleanliness issue had me rate it as average. If housekeeping was up to par and I would have given a higher rating.

Thank you for your review. I believe we have recently been in communication , and we have compensated you for this unusual experience. We are very sorry you had to check in to the property in that condition. I assure you that is not normal, and we hope you do give Resort Realty another opportunity to improve your impression of our properties.

Baltimore, MdRelaxing vacation in a beautiful beachside townhome
Left on 08/03/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We have stayed in the Seadunes complex for about 20 seasons, this was our 2nd stay at By the Sea. The new fridge on the kitchen level was wonderful (switched from the garage level?) and it is soo convenient to have 2 refrigerators in this unit (no lugging drinks up and down to fill a cooler for the beach). The oven doesn't seem to hold it's temperature accurately and may need to be serviced (this was the case last year, as well). The only thing that the place needed was a mirror of some sort in the 2nd bedroom on the first floor. Two teenage girls trying to use the same mirror in a bathroom for 2 weeks is tough. The beds are comfortable and the beach location is perfect. I highly recommend this unit to any of my friends. The only thing that may make us choose a different complex in the future is Seadunes "no pet" policy.
I feel like I really need to mention one complaint, that has nothing to do directly with this unit (owner). We consistently find (and have for about the past 6 years) that going to the pool area is not a fun experience. Year after year we feel like several of the pool house employees feel like Seadunes is their personal pool area/hang out for themselves and their friends. My daughters have both had rude comments made to/about them by kids who are very obviously "friends" of the staff on duty. The hot tub is constantly filled with teenagers (many times not guests, especially at night). Going to the club house is usually just uncomfortable for the same reason. Of the four of us, only one of my daughters will even go to the pool. Many of the staff are just cliquey and unfriendly. I know that part of the fee that I pay for my vacation home includes access to the pool and other club house amenities. I have never complained about this before, I just kind of keep hoping it will change. But year after year it's the same core group of employees and their friendsResponse from Resort Realty Outer Banks - 09/19/2012

We appreciate your review of "By the Sea". We're glad to hear that after 20 seasons the owners added the 2nd fridge and that it meant so much to you. We will certainly forward your other feedback as well. It is unfortunate that Sea Dunes has a no pet policy, and it is out of our control. It would take a vote from the HOA board to change that. Regarding the pool area we will certainly forward your complaint regarding the hang out area. That should be for guest and owner use only. Once again thank you for your feedback, and we look forward to seeing you next year.

While I liked the rental unit there were a few problems: my parents complained thier bed was lumpy and uncomfortable; they also thought the chairs needed new cushions. I found the gas grill was uncleaned and wouldnt light. On the plus side i liked the big kitchen

Left on 09/03/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We paid for premium linen service, which I understood to mean that linens would be provided and the beds made. None of the beds were made. One bathroom was totally absent of toilet paper. The basic amenities in the kitchen were not present: napkins, kleenex, paper towel, sponge or washcloth, and dish soap. In the living room were 2 lamps, but only 1 knob to turn them one; you had to move the knob from lamp to lamp to turn them on.

Eldersburg, MDBeautiful vacation home

We have stayed at Sea Dunes for 20 years but have never stayed in a 3 bedroom townhome. This particular home was beautiful and we would definitely consider staying here again. Loved the garage level fridge...we loaded our cooler there every day so we didn't have to walk to/from 3rd floor! We only encountered a few problems: the kitchen refrigerator took forever to get cool (almost till the next morning), so long that we started to get concerned that the food we'd brought in a cooler was going to go bad. Three out of 4 DVD players didn't work and one out of 4 televisions did not work. Obviously we aren't going to the beach to watch TV but it was a little excessive--Resort Realty finally sent a gentleman out with two new DVD players and replaced the TV. The toaster had an electrical malfunction and caught on fire--we went out and replaced it ourselves and let Resort Realty know. They would replace it after we left, we were told. Other than that the only other thing that would have made our trip better is if pets were accepted. We understand why they aren't but would love if we could bring our two 5lb dogs with us--they are family, too. We go to the OBX every year with a large group of about 6 families that all stay at Sea Dunes and look forward to our 2 week trip every year. My daughter's boyfriend has only ever been to Ocean City, MD, and he was soo impressed with our rental and the OBX. Best vacation in years.

We had an enjoyable stay at By the Sea. The Sea Dunes community is lovely and perfect for our kids; the always enjoy the pool and the arcade!
One suggestion - I believe all but one of the beach chairs that were located in the garage were broken. That was a little bit of a disappointment since there were several adults who needed chairs when we went down to the beach.
All in all an enjoyable stay! The auto check-out was extremely convenient. -

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Duncan. The proximity to the beach as well as the pool made this condo a real convenient vacation place. Everyone in the complex was very nice. We had a great time! Thanks!
