Hemingway House Holiday Apartments is a 19th century townhouse right in the centre of Kobarid which has been converted into 5 unique self-catering apartments for the budget yet style conscious traveller.

The Apartments have all been named after Ernest Hemingway's wives and this twin studio apartment (32sqm) has been named after his third wife Martha.

This apartment has two single beds, which can be put together as a double. But, I should warn you the gap in the middle is noticeable. There is a wardrobe and chester drawers for storing of clothes.

The kitchen has a 4 ring electric hob, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, Bod...um French press and Bialetti coffee makers, cooking equipment and crockery for two people. The Dining room table seats two and there is an antique wood burning stove.

The en-suite bathroom is has ample counter space for your toiletries and has a large storage closet for your luggage etc as well as a heated towel rail.

The room is located at the rear of the first (middle) floor of the house and is accessed directly via the Upstairs terrace. It has its own private and lockable entrance.

The Garden

There is a large garden to the rear of the property with a grassy lawn, herb garden and a BBQ area. There are also two terraces to relax on.

The Storage Barn

There is a large secure barn to the very back of the property which can be used to store sporting equipment, motorcycles or to dry tents and clothes if they are wet.

I've worked hard to make the apartments feel like a home away from home with little touches like French press and Bialetti coffee makers in each room.

Additional Location Information

Kobarid was immortalised in Hemingway's Farewell to Arms as a charming amicable little village. Today not much has changed but the main square is filled with lively bars and great restaurants. There are also numerous music festivals taking place in the main square over the summer months.

Kobarid is even better known as the jumping off point for exploring the magnificent Soca Valley. Triglav National Park surrounds the village and its possible to walk directly from the house to several scenic peaks. There are many adventure companies in the town offering rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, canyoning and paragliding tours. The mountain of Stol is just outside and is a popular spot for paragliders and there is a regular taxi service the jump off point. The landing spot is within walking distance of the house.

For those who prefer less extreme pursuits the Soca Valley is extremely scenic and is perfect for touring by bike or car. From the town there are a number of gentle walks to a beautiful waterfall, a restored Roman village and World War I battle sites. There is also an award winning museum dedicated to the history of World War I and the Soca Front.

Amenities

Kobarid has 12 café’s, three restaurants and three pizzeria’s all within a five minute stroll of the house. There are also two larger grocery stores, three bakeries, one green grocers, a post office and two banks. And even a police station.

Hiking - Triglav National Park borders the village on two sides and there are a number of hikes, ranging from easy to difficult which can be done right from town. The Walk of Peace also runs through the village and from this trail you can walk up to Bovec or down to Tolmin. The tourist office has complete list of the hundreds of walks possible in the area.

Swimming - locals like to head to the "beach" on the Najda River which is warmed by natural hot springs with supposed healing qualities. Its 5km outside of town on the road to Italy and there is a great bar serving food and drinks. For the brave, its possible to swim in the Soca just past the Napoleon Bridge. A bit further a field, the best swimming spot on the Soca can be found down valley in the pretty village of Kanal. The River is very shallow on the banks here so it is a suitable place to take children. There is also an excellent bakery/cafe here. For proper swimming there is an aqua park in Bovec and another one in Lake Bohinj.

Single people - Pauline's and Martha's Rooms are available at a reduced rate of € 35 per night.

Prices include all relevant taxes.

SBreakfast is also available at a cost of € 5 / person/day and is a typical northern European breakfast of fruit, sliced meats and cheese, preserves, butter, yogurt, cereal etc. which will be delivered to your apartment.

Welcome tea and coffee supplies are provided free of charge in the apartment and cold beer and white wine are available for a small charge, or they can simply be replaced by you, by visiting the local supermarket.

Payment

To guarantee a reservation a 20% deposit is required to be paid by bank transfer or paypal with remainder due a week before the booking commences.

Cancellations

A full refund will be given to people who cancel 7 days before the booking starts. After this a 50% refund will be given. If I can find another party to rent the room a 100% refund will be given. In July and August the chances of this happening are very high as Kobarid’s hotels, hostels and even campgrounds are typically full.
