The location of the house is great, within easy walking distance to the beach, and with wonderful sunset views of the ocean. It's adequately equipped with the standard amenities of stove, microwave, coffee maker, etc. There were lots of beach towels and other items available for guest use.
The problem is how old and run down the place is. It's not a pit, it's just well-worn. About a third of the windows don't open, and another third don't close. This is especially bothersome since there are signs telling you not to leave the windows open because of 1) the wind, 2) the rain, 3) theft. The bed was soft and the couch was uncomfortable.
The kitchen and bathrooms are old -- to give you an idea: the bathtubs & sinks are sea-foam green. The glass shower door and faucets were caked with white water deposits. And -- this one was hard to bounce back from -- there was a milky white stain on the underside of the comforter in the master bedroom. The ewww factor was pretty high.
If I could give a two-and-a-half stars, I would. The view is worth a lot, but the rest brings the value of this place down way below what they're charging. We ended up leaving early, since it was so sub-par for a place that was touted as luxury. -

Nice quiet place. Kitchen spacious. Living room with good couches.
First bedroom with excellent room and balcone. Second bedroom was small, no view and 2 twin bed. Not ideal for 2 couples.
Overall great time. Close to beach and basic shopping.

THis condo is right by Brenneke Beach which is fabulous for body surfing and boogey boarding. THe condo is spacious and had many things provided such as boogey boards, cooler, washer and dryer, hot tub, out door shower. The manager was very helpful and responsive to all our requests. The down side is the unit needs some upkeep badly. THe windows were in disrepair, some broken, and the entire unit needs a deep cleaning, including patio and patio furniture, and kitchen. There is also a bit of traffic noise since the bedroom is right next to the street, literally a few feet away. Bring earplugs and you will be fine. We booked directly with the owner on VRBO and saved $50 a night. I think they should fix up the place or consider charging less.

Dream Vacation
PittsburghCleaning left a lot to be desired!

Based on the numerous 'house rules' we were given and that there's an additional $200 cleaning fee in addition to a threat of additional expense for cleaning, I thought that we would be walking into a 'pristine' place. That was definitely NOT the case. We had to perform some of our own cleaning and dusting (which I didn't really expect to have to do while on vacation)! After everything we received in advance of this vacation, cleaning was the last thing I thought I'd be doing when we got there.
I did like the location and the beach that is closest to the unit is one of the best ones on the island. -

We had a wonderful stay in Kauai made even better by our villa at Honu Kai. The ammenities were very useful (washer/dryer, full kitchen). The villa was very spacious and comfortably accommodated our family. The proximity to the ocean and beaches was wonderful! We would highly recommend the villa to family and friends.

Pleasanton, CaliforniaI enjoyed our vacation, but had some issues with the villa
Left on 10/29/2009 for a stay in October 2009
The villa is old and was dated. Many of the windows did not open or close properly. Several pocket doors were off the tracks and did not work. The unit could have been cleaner, especially the kitchen. Wish I would have been informed that it was right on the street as the cars kept us awake at night. Contruction workers were occupying and working on the unit closest to the water and were using the pool and pool shower in the complex. All that being said, The Travel Authority was good to deal with and supplied me with information I needed. Most of my comments above, I shared with Peggy, the property manager prior to our departure. I was impressed that our I-Pod we left in the unit was promptly mailed back to us! We had a great vacation, but felt the villa was over-priced for the items mentioned above.
