Description from the manager
Poipu Crater Resort is one of the most affordable and surprising accommodations in Poipu, Kauai. This charming and unexpected treasure feels like you're at home, only you're surrounded by a tropical botanical garden in the crater of an extinct volcano! There are 2 townhouse condos in each building which are built quite far apart from each other, allowing a lot of privacy. In the mornings when you wake up you are greeted by the birds singing as they dart from tree to tree.
Poipu Crater 17 has two bedrooms and 2 baths and offers a Cal king bed and two twin beds. The condo is spacious, has a full size kitchen, laundry center, ceiling fan i...Read more

I and two girlfriends stayed here for a recent girl's trip to Kauai, and we couldn't have been more pleased! We were surrounded by lush flowers, sweet singing birds and no street/people noise. The complex is convenient to everything in Poipu and I walked to the beach every day. I have to say too that I loved the pool, and the adjoining pool house with sauna for the occasional rainy day. The condo itself had everything we needed and the washer/dryer a bonus after our muddy hike! We all commented on how super comfy the beds are. All of us agreed we would definitely stay here again.

Lihue, KauaiJust ok...
Left on 04/18/2013 for a stay in April 2013
The unit was nice. Everything was pretty clean except for the used soap bar in the bathroom. The reason I only rated this two stars is because of the pretentious Poipu Crater property. We checked in on a Friday and went down to the common area to check out the pool/hot tub only to find out that there was no hot tub even though reservationist said that every property had one. Apparently the common area next to the pool is reserved every Friday from 5pm-8pm by a group of condo owners. Judging by the list on the bulletin board, over half of Poipu Crater is privately owned and these owners think they own the common area too! They were absolutely conceited and appeared to be bothered that we were swimming in the pool during their "reserved" time (the only reason I know they reserved it is because there was a sign posted on the bulletin board stating "This area is reserved from 5pm-8pm every Friday except for the grills - Jim #12"). That night, we had a little get together on the balcony of our unit and at exactly 10:05pm one of the condo owners from the "reserved" group earlier marched down and said "haven't you read the rules" and presented us with a laminated copy of the property rules which said that quiet hours were from 10pm-9am. We were not presented with a list of rules during checkin, nor could we find it anywhere in the unit. Stay at the Kahala (also through Suite Paradise) instead! It's a bigger property with better amenities.

Instead of staying in a cramped hotel room, we opted for this lovely condo that felt more like staying in a friend's home. We often ate breakfast on the lanai and were very grateful to be able to do a little laundry right in our condo. This is a luxury stay for the budget minded traveler.
We also rented boogie boards through the resort, convenient and easy. From our condo it is a bit of a walk to the beach, but still close enough to call it very convenient. The grounds are beautiful, even thinking about it makes me want to go back for more relax time. If you're looking for a place to call home for a bit on Kauai, you've found it. -

Kekaha, KauaiGreat affordable Place For a Family Staycation
Left on 02/25/2013 for a stay in October 2012
I truly enjoyed my stay with my family at Poipu Crater to get away from the west side of Kauai to celebrate my 11 year old daughter's birthday weekend. Service at check in and check out was excellent. The condo was stocked with everything we needed to enjoy our weekend away. It's a great affordable place for any resident of Kauai to relax and enjoy a staycation. Suite Paradise provides great service and will use them again for another family staycation.
The only disappointing thing about our stay there was the very rude resident at the pool that made my daughter's day at the pool with her friends unenjoyable. I guess it's normal for some of the resident's there question people who "look" like they don't belong there. I'm well aware of people sneaking into resorts to use the pool but if it's obvious we're staying there you don't have to be rude or unwelcoming. Call security if you want to question our stay there. No aloha spirit was shown by this man towards my little girl and her friends swimming at the pool. There was no need to harass or bully them. They were well behaved. If I ever decide to stay at Poipu Crater again I'll take my daughter to the beach instead and staying away from the pool as it seems to not be a kid friendly area.

Wasilla, Alaskadark and dreary, but very relaxing
Left on 02/12/2013 for a stay in February 2013
we specifically asked the attendant at check in if the unit lanai had lots of sun. She replied that it had lots, and especially morning and afternoon times. We checked in at evening time. The condo was very nice and very relaxing, which we were looking for. Come morning,we noticed there was absolutely no sun on the lanai, and continued throughout the day the same. We should have realized that since it was totally enshrouded with trees. We had to go sit on the sidewalk to the adjoining condo to drink our morning coffee in the sun.
We traveled all day and night coming from alaska and were just looking for R&R; in the sun, and, after grocery shopping, stocking refrigerator, moving in and unpacking, we discussed trying to find another rental elsewhere. We did not want to spend our 8 days in a crater. We contacted the office and they agreed to find us alternative lodging which they did. The Poipu Sands.Lots of sun all day, and a beautiful stay. We will be requesting the Sands unit next year. Great service & Beautiful location.

Californiasmelly, cockroaches, and no air conditioning
Left on 09/14/2012 for a stay in September 2012
we rented #17 for two nights. When we arrived, the place stunk like body odor and funk. It was gag worthy. Because there is no air conditioning and the place was all closed up, it was very stuffy, so we hoped that airing it out would address the smell. Unfortunately, no such luck. Even hours later, the smell remained. It was especially bad in the living room and up the stairwell. Incredibly unpleasant, but by now we were stuck here.
That night, when we went upstairs to bed and flipped on the bathroom light (the bathroom sink/counter is basically in the bedroom), several cockroaches scattered across the counter (we have photos!), right by our toothbrushes. Lovely. We went to bed set on spending our 2nd night somewhere not gross (we were only in Kauai for two nights).
The next morning I called and told the clerk about the smell and the roaches and that I would like a refund for the 2nd night. He said he couldn't do that, but that he could offer us another condo. Given that they had thought it ok to rent us a unit that smelled foul and had roaches, and our limited time, I said that was not what we wanted, we wanted a refund. He said he could not do that, I said we would be checking out at 10, and he hung up on me.
We checked out early anyway and checked into a nice hotel instead.
So basically, we paid $140 + the cost of our replacement accommodations to not sleep here.

Manager
Guest checked into their accommodation around 3pm. Our registration desk closes at 7pm. The following morning the guest contacted our registration desk regarding her concerns with the accommodations, as mentioned above. This was the first we had heard of these issues as previous guests had not mentioned any of these prior. We offered the guest to relocate for the last night to another condo within the same resort. They did not want to stay in the same resort but another resort. We then offered another accommodation in another one of our resorts. Guest declined and opted to leave despite our non-refundable cancellation policy.

We liked the condominium and have stayed here before. We requested a rice cooker and had one provided at the room to start our stay.
I do prefer the "bar" soap which was provided in the past compared to the "liquid" soap which is now provided. I realize that liquid soap may be easier to clean but it is just not the same.
I requested a cooler bag that was supposed to be complimentary but this was not delivered and while we did not have to have it, I was going to use it as a souvenir for some of my traveling companions. -

This condo felt like a home with all necessary cookware, linens, etc. included. Close to the beach but a little walk to get there. Very private and roomy with a short driving distance to shops, restaurants, multiple beaches. We were glad to stay here compared to a high rise. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. You even get a complimentary Mai Tai upon check in!

Central CaliforniaUnique lovely private and quiet Poipu.
Left on 09/21/2011 for a stay in May 2011
Poipu Crater is truly unique and a must see for those who want to be close to the Poipu action but seemingly miles away. In reality, Poipu Crater is but a walk away from Poipu's best beaches and Brennecke's Beach Broiler, the best place for a drink or excellent dinner.
The Poipu Crater resort will amaze you with its privacy. You may find no one at the pool, at the Tennis court, or the supplied propane Bbqs.
The 2 story 2 bedroom condos are spacious, well appointed, and convenient for cooking, watching TV, or sitting on the open air balconey watching and listening to the many beautiful song birds that inhabit the "Crater".
The "Crater" is in fact a landscaped extinct volcanic cone centrally located on the Poipu penninsula, the Souternmost tip of the island of Kauai.
Just down the street are Roy's, Keoki's Paradise, and Poipu Tropical Burger for good eats and for history, old Koloa Town is just a short drive. Don't forget to pick up some sashimi or seared ahi at the Koloa Fish Market for apps before your barbeque.
If there is one drawback it is that none of the Poipu Crater condos have air conditioning, a rare find anywhere in Kauai. The physical attributes of the Crater condos, condos posed on inner walls of an actual volcanic crater, prevents full exposure to the cooling sea breeze.
Happily the most of your day will be spent at the pool or beach or at one of the many unique geological features of the most beautiful of all the Hawaiian islands.
Luckily, the evenings cool and the many ceiling fans will keep you cool at nights. Enjoy.
