293916Lovely and affordable option for a group in Borneo

Going on vacation with 6 people and staying at this house saved us hundreds of dollars of otherwise expensive hotels.
The house is as advertised and tastefully furnished, as shown by the pictures. Communicating and booking with Zia was a breeze and we had no problems with finding the house. We stayed mostly in the kitchen and dining area and really liked everything the house came with.
A rental car is definitely a must as the house is at least 20 minutes from KK. We weren't prepared for the rush hour and got stuck coming back to the house from downtown, which took over an hour.
Just a couple of things that only slightly detract from the house. The beach is in pretty poor shape and full of trash so it's not exactly a place to sit at or stroll along, although the view is still gorgeous. There were lots of bugs inside and outside (bring your insect repellent!) the house. We found a trail of ants in a few of the bathrooms and the kitchen.
Overall, this was a great vacation home and very well worth the price!!Response from Zia Holly - 05/09/2012

Thank you for your generous comments. I am truly sorry for uninvited guests that had entered the villa. I didnt realize that I have ants in my bathrooms. I will inform Jenny, my housekeeper to look into it and take the necessary steps to eradicate those pests. Thanks again Dian and glad you guys had great time! -

After looking at different properties in the Kota Kinabalu area.Some of them in the downtown district and several out of town my friends and I overwhelmingly chose this home. My friend did all the contacts and arrangements with Zia the owner. She could not have been more helpful with information and answered our questions and concerns quickly by email.
The house is clean and well kept. I even found some coffee makings in the kitchen the next morning as we hadn't had a chance to go shopping before arriving at the house the night before. It was like staying at a friends vacation home that's how comfortable it was.

Borneo Holiday Rental Villa appeared to be much more than we expected as we really enjoyed our stay. At such reasonable price one will get a small paradise on the coast of the South China Sea.
The location is very good as it's situated in a quiet suburb of Kota Kinabalu and has a sea front view just a couple of steps from the beach which allows to feast one's eyes on stunning sunrises and sunsets. The access to different places of interest such as KK city, Wild life parks, restaurants etc. can be found very easily and quickly by car.
The villa itself shows a good taste of the owner. Each room is decorated in it's own stylish way. One can absolutely trust the photos provided. In reality all looks even better. The big and light kitchen is equipped with all the necessary appliances and even more. If you are not go in for restaurant and like cooking you'll enjoy it a lot.
The side yard has a BBQ place where one can have a dinner outdoors under the palms and rubber plants.
Free wi-fi connection is a very big advantage.
The owner of the villa, Zia, is very welcoming and always willing to help. She helped us with all our needs such as airport pick up, car rental etc.
The following features of the villa one can find little bothersome: the absence of public transport near by, the beach is slightly contaminated. But they do not plead the dignity of this awesome place.Response from Zia Holly - 02/01/2012

Zia has certainly made a beautiful home in this suburban town about 30 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu. We stayed at the beach-front unit which was very nicely decorated and steps away from the beach.
Bedrooms were spacious and adequate for 6 adults in total, while the lounge area upstairs was really cosy anytime of the day. There is a TV with astro and the broadband speed is acceptable. But the 'piece de resistance' has got to be the fully-functional kitchen - it must have cost a fortune to build a kitchen like that - simply awesome and the ladies just loved it!
Outside, the yard was well-maintained and came with a table for 6 plus a BBQ pit (al beit a tad too close to a huge banana tree) - good for a BBQ on a cool evening. An added bonus for bird lovers, the plants attract lots of chirpy birds in the morning.
If not driving, transportation might be a little complicated as it is a long walk to the main road and there was hardly any taxi in sight anyway. Fortunately, Zia provided useful contacts for transfer arrangements at reasonable rates.

The internet speed is considered by Malaysian standard acceptable... LOL. I live in USA and I know the difference . .. wish I could get Telecom Malaysia to improve the speed. In the first place, working out the kinks with this rental experience was easy. We had several complications unexpectedly impact our travel plans, but they worked with us every step of the way. Staff was friendly and helpful.
It's a little out of the way from Kota Kinabalu, but totally worth the drive. The pictures don't do it justice. This place was beautiful and comfortable. The kitchen area was well appointed, and we found ourselves literally 50 paces from the front door to the beach.
The beach could have used some attention, honestly. There was a lot of garbage on it. But the water was beautiful, and the sunset views were amazing. This was a perfect place to simply relax or use as an out of the way base for exploring the rest that KK has to offer.
One of the only real drawbacks was the Internet speed. They do offer complimentary wired/wireless Internet access, but the speeds were rather slow. But it's enough to get you what you need, and you're here for the place, not to stay plugged in.
If you're coming to KK, don't rule this place out. You'll be happy you stayed here.Response from Zia Holly - 03/19/2011
