First opened to renters in 2011, this direct oceanfront home boasts an amazing view of the Kure Beach fishing pier and is a short two-block stroll to "downtown" favorites like Freddie's, Jack Mackerel's and the Old Pier House. Additional Location Information
Just 30 minutes from Wilmington, Kure Beach is known as "North Carolina's Small Wonder." Perfectly situated on Pleasure Island, Kure Beach has its own "downtown," with the famous Freddie's Restaurant and Kure Beach fishing pier within quick walking distance of the home.
The really nice part is that Doublewood is far enough away from the traffic and stress of the larger beach towns, but Wilmington--one of the truly great small cities of America, is a short drive away.

Pennington, NJPerfect off-season getaway!
Left on 01/17/2013 for a stay in November 2012
We won a week's vacation at this property in a charity auction, so we rented it sight-unseen. Once I got the information on the property I couldn't wait to for our vacation to start. The unit lived up to my expectations and exceeded it in many regards. The furnishings, the condition of the property, the location all were top-notch. We had two families and a grandmother in the unit for Thanksgiving week and we never felt cramped or developed "cabin fever". The smaller kids liked the aquarium just down the road a few miles, and the adults enjoyed the wonderful views of the ocean from the deck. We rented both units, and while almost identically furnished, we preferred the upper unit for the views.
This rental is about half-way between the two families (NJ & FL), and we will certainly consider returning to this property for another extended family reunion/holiday.

ColoradoIt is perfect!
Left on 12/28/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We rented the top half of Doublewood for one week in July of 2012. We had two families there, each with plenty of young children. We are from Colorado and the other family from Kentucky. First let me say that we have rented oceanfront properties before up in the outer banks and I think it is fair to say that my expectation are high, even in the "fussy" category. I and my 12 year old watch a lot of the Hgtv shows like Holmes Inspection, so I think it is fair to say that we have an eye for issues that are not up to par. That said, Doublewood was a complete pleasure for us. There were no issues during the stay and everything we saw in the pics was representative of the property. The beds were top of the line and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed and everything worked. There was plenty of privacy. If a couple was in one room, we could not hear the kids jumping around and yelling in the next room. In the middle of the week I noticed that one of the bar stools was missing its leg pad and scraping up the floor. I removed the bar stool, called the rental agent and within a couple hours the new protectors arrived were installed. Because the property was in such tip-top condition and well managed, I was able to park myself out on the big deck overlooking the atlantic - and I did so for many hours. My thanks goes to Doublewood and owner Kevin. We will be back and won't be looking for a different place to stay. This place has it all!

We rented both units for a large family gathering. Both units were much nicer than we had anticipated upon arrival. The beach views are wonderful and the access to the beach is very easy. The landscaping with the large plam trees are a nice touch. The kitchens are very spacious and you can cook for a large crowd. The master bedrooms have great views of the ocean and beach.

Lynnfield, MALooking for a great beach vacation, you just found it!

8 of us staying at this new beach house that sits right on Kure Beach. The house is new and clean with lots of room for everyone. There are 4 bedrooms 3 full baths including a Master bath with jacuzzi, walk-in shower, private water-closet, and double sinks, granite countertops everywhere, and the cherry floors are beautiful. Large flat screen Tv's in every room. I can not leave out the best part "The Beach" the sunrises are unreal and waking up to the sound and view of the ocean waves was breathtaking. The location is unrivaled with all of the best restaurants on Pleasure Island being within a 3 minute walk. You must go to Freddies for the best dinner in the state! and Jack Mackerel's is a close 2nd. The diner at Kure beach has a great breakfast and lunch. You do not need the car in the location! Looking forward to our next trip to the spectacular home, not to mention the beautiful weather in the 80's that we had during our stay.

Left on 05/10/2012 for a stay in October 2011
My family and I stayed here with a few friends for 3 nights and were shocked by how beautifully decorated and spacious the property was. The bedrooms are large with an amazing view of the ocean in the master bedroom. The master bathroom is really spacious and very modern. My favorite attribute of the property is the deck that overlooks the beach and ocean. We were also provided with a private walkway to the beach. The kitchen has a gorgeous island and all the state of the art appliances.

Amazing house, view and accomodations. The decor is gorgeous. The owners put alot of love into the house, from the design, furniture and warm, cozy atmosphere. Right on the beach ! You can't beat that ! Great town near by with amazing restaurants and bars. Truly an amazing escape for families or a girls getaway. Would definitely go back.

Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaWonderful accommodations
Left on 09/08/2011 for a stay in September 2011
I, and 19 of my family members, stayed at this beach house over Labor Day weekend. The house contains two apartments (we had the top one). Our apartment was large and spacious. The apartment could sleep 12 guests so many of us slept on air mattresses in the living room. I would suggest bringing extra towels, as there were only enough for 12 and there is no house keeping service to replenish. The apartment provided so much: above average cooking utensils: plates, serving bowls, pots/pans; dishwasher; washer/dryer; boogie boards; beach chairs and umbrellas (in the 3-car garage).
It's a great place. I can't wait to stay again next year. It's an ocean-front property with a balcony. -

Left on 07/14/2011 for a stay in June 2011
Upon arrival, we first realized that the pictures of the rental did not nearly do it justice. The owner did not leave out one comfort or convenience for us to enjoy. Just beautiful! The location affords you to enjoy the beach and restaurants that are easily accessed by walking. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the dolphins swimming by as we relaxed on the deck of the house. We also enjoyed nearby by Wilmington with its river walk and fabulous restaurants. The guys went deep sea fishing leaving just a few miles down the road. There is definitely something for all age groups. Overall, we couldn't have asked for more!

Great cottage! Beautifully decorated with lots of room and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Loved sitting on the huge deck watching the waves, the birds, the dolphin, walking on the beach and swimming in the ocean! Lots to do near by, we took Ferry to Historic Southport, toured Fort Fisher and ate at some great restaurants. The perfect vacation spot!

The kitchen is great & the dining area has a table big enough for everyone! Flat screens in every room! Plenty of room to spread out. New York, NYI'm Really Torn
Left on 01/18/2011 for a stay in December 2010
I stayed at DoubleWood over the holidays and I'm really torn about this review. It was absolutely amazing, but I'm worried that posting a review will only make it harder for me to book again. We were in the upstairs unit, but, honestly, downstairs, with the covered back balcony, looked just as nice. The view is the first thing that grabs you...it looks like the ocean is a part of the living room! The master suite is amazing and large and our guests loved their bedrooms as well. The kitchen table was big enough for all of us to have dinner at or play games and being able to walk just 5 minutes to downtown to eat at Freddie's and Jack Mackerel's was a really underrated perk. There was plenty of space for the 10 of us to spread out and the bunk room was great for the kids. The best part, of course, is the balcony and private beach access. We weren't able to make much use of that in December, but I can already picture how great summers will be. I don't have many complaints, other than I wish the owners would allow pets...but I can see why they want to keep it looking as clean and new as it does now. Now, do me a favor and forget you ever read this review.
