Perth, AustraliaAwesome villa
Left on 01/17/2013 for a stay in August 2012
We have spent several holidays at this awesome villa and have never been disappointed.
Everything from booking to paying deposits, pickups and drop offs at airport all went off without a hitch
Like many people i was hesitant at first about staying at a villa instead of a hotel...let me tell you i will choose a villa over a hotel any day.
The owners are absolute gems were so very patient at my many questions, nothing is to much trouble to make you feel at ease.
The location is great and most taxi drivers now know where it is, or you can walk to the main road in about 6-7 mins, very quick and easy
, there is an internet cafe and circle k etc very close...but villa has wifi anyway
Best western hotel is next door and has great food and a great pool
The pool is great although small it is at the front of the property so is always beautiful in temperature not too cold as some are, and has baby pool...very cute
Redi and nyoman take good care of everything, wonderful people.
There is also a phone that you can order taxis which come in minutes or if your feeling like a lazy day you can order take out from kfc, maccas, dominos etc
Nothing is too much trouble, we all felt very safe here.
And cannot wait to return again and again -

It's difficult to decribe just how good this place is.
The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The ground floor bedroom has a view out to the pool. The upstairs main bedroom has its own balcony. There is one other bedroom upstairs, but there is also an area with day beds and a stylish desk.
Downstairs the kitchen area is stylish and functional, and that adjoins an area with couches and a flat screen TV - with Dvds provided.
Also alongside the kitchen is a small area with lounges which face out to the courtyard garden at the back.
The courtyard garden has a large table and chairs which was an ideal area for us to enjoy our breakfast (we decided to just cook our own eggs and toast so that we could spend more time at the Villa).
I normally cannot relax, but I spent hours just moving from one area of the Villa to another, reading my book - including on the comfortable pool lounges. The pool is small, but who cares? It's big enough to get in and cool off.
The downstairs bathroom is small - it didn't concern us at all, and apparently they have plans to enlarge it in February.
Now, in the general vicinity of the Villa there is not a lot. It's about 10 mins walk to the Main Street and a bit further to the Beach - so if you want a beach holiday this might not suit. There is a small Warung close by but we found the food there a bit hit and miss.
To get in to central Kuta you go by taxi but sometimes with the congested traffic we found it quicker to walk! About 20 mins.
Also close by is Best Western Hotel where you can have meals - we had dinner there one night and it was superb. They have happy hour cocktail also - two for one. Good value.
Also nearby are a couple of small supermarkets, so it's easy to get your supplies.
Often the photos on websites make the place out to be better than it is - but in this case the opposite is true. The photos don't do justice to just how classy, comfortable and well appointed this place is.
One day we hope to return to Pondok Putu - I just hope I haven't talked it up so much that there will be no vacancy! -

We stayed at Pondok Putu for 12 days and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The villa was well located, and designed in a way so that we all had our space if needed. Both Redi and Nyomen were friendly and so accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. Redi has an amazing knowledge of Bali and knows all of the best places to see and things to do. Our family had a great time staying there and we would definitely recommend it! Thanks so much!!!

255103Great villa, great location, great staff!
Left on 02/18/2012 for a stay in February 2012
Our group of four stayed here recently for seven nights, the shared cost was cheaper than if we had stayed in a hotel, and given that it can sleep up to 8 imagine the amount you can save by staying in a villa!
The Villa its self is lovely, the rooms are spacious and comfortable (air conditioning!) as is the rest of the house. Please do keep in mind that there are only 3 bedrooms (2x queen, 1x2king single), but that there is also a day room with two beds that could easily be used, so if you're traveling with a big group make sure that some of your guests don't mind losing a little bit of privacy.
It is nicely decorated and has cable TV, DVD and Play Station, which is great if you are looking to stay in for a bit or if you have children. The bathrooms were a little so-so, the shower in the upstairs bathroom needs a new head (but it didn't bother us as we could use the shower in the bath or downstairs, plus we didn't say anything so we didn't give them a chance to fix it), the downstairs bathroom is very small (the bathroom upstairs is massive!) but, hey, you're on holidays, it doesn't matter! Drinking water is provided and there is a stove top, toaster, fridge etc etc if you are wanting to do a bit of at home catering.
The pools are divine, and if you have kids, they can play in the little paddling pools. We only had one power outage (to be expected!) but we just lazed around in the pools, went out and then the power came back on!
It's in a great location, 10-15 minute walk to Kuta (or a taxi ride away, as it's not always nice to step outside and be sweating straight away), close enough to everything but far enough away to be a bit more relaxing. If drivers aren't sure, tell them it's next to the Best Western.
Redi, who collects from the airport is a lovely man who knows alot about the island, if you're looking for a good guide he is ideal. Housekeeping comes every 2-3 days (he's also a really nice guy, his english isn't as good as Redi's but he is super friendly).
I would happily recommend this Villa to others, Pondok Mira which is in the same complex also looks really nice (Redi took us for a peek) and I would consider staying there also! Ann is lovely to book through and accommodated our groups changing needs (flight changes etc etc).
Side notes: as the pools are at the front this property is probably not suitable for people who have trouble navigating uneven surfaces or are physically impaired/elderly, also as the pools are at the front groups with young children should ensure that they are monitoring the pool, pondok mira's pool is out the back (so less easily accessible) but pondok putu has the two smaller pools.Response from Ann Boyd - 02/22/2012
Owner
Hi Nicole,
So glad you enjoyed Bali and your stay in the villa, just a note that Pondok Putu has metal front grilles that can be closed across the front door, which makes the front pools fully enclosed and safe from children in the villa.

Stayed here for 10 days with my partner and 2 kids (ages 12 & 13). Located about 5-10 min drive from the airport, in a very quiet location of Kuta. The accommodation is clean, self contained, roomy and loved the fact that the kids had their own room and own space. Also has a kids area set up with play station and, DVD and TV. A nice little pool that we rarely used as prefered to be on the beach.
Its only a 2 minute cab ride (for about $1) to the heart of Kuta or you can walk there in 10 minutes.
Breakfast we usually had at the West Western buffet which is just around the corner. Other times we would just dine out at the various restaurants for other meals. Although the unit has cuttlers, dishes, and cooking utensils if you would want to dine in and stay home.
'Redi' the Balinese caretaker is at your beck and call and available to take you on tourist trips around the island if need be. He is very knowledgeable and courteous and was also there to pick us up and drop us back at the airport on our return.
In all, I rate this place at very good value for money, considering the quality, size and location that it is in.
Ann (the owner) was also very helpful when booking. I would recomend this place to my friends and others. -

So impressed with the villa. Stayed with a group of four people for 6 nights & loved every minute of it. All the rooms are lovely & clean & the villa has everything you need for the stay. One of the girls in the group got sick & was unable to leave the villa & Redi was kind enough to go get her the medicine she needed.
Prob only a five minute walk to the main street so i found the location great. Would definately recommend for anyone travelling to Bali :) -

Left on 03/14/2011 for a stay in February 2011
I stayed here for 10 days in Feb 2011- my first villa experience in Kuta. The villa is exactly as it is in the photos, which was a huge relief.
As I was travelling in a group of 7, space was a huge factor in booking Pondok Putu. All but one of my group was happy; One of the rooms upstairs (with twin beds) is actually open has no privacy. But being male we told him to harden up (j/k).
Very close to waterbom, be sure to ask Redi the way to walk to get straight out to the main street, otherwise taxis just tend to take big circles.
House cleaning staff were exceptional and Redi was a very funny driver.
The whole complex experienced a power outage one day, but was fixed by the evening. You can always go next door to Best Western if this happens.
On the whole I would recommend this place for families, the kitchen was basically left unused by us 20 somethings who ate out almost everynight ( you can always order in Maccas, KFC, Dominos and Pizza Hut).
Best thing about this place: Location and Price
Worst thing: Not a lot of the taxi drivers knew where it was. Just had to say next to best western until we got the Street name down pat. -

After staying here for a few days there is no where else i could possibly think of staying next time i arrive in Bali. The villa was amazing, from the swimming pool (which got a good work out) to the bedrooms and the fantastic little courtyard. I recommend that you experience it yourself. Staff were wonderful and just being so close to everything without the busy noise just made it much better. The only thing was that some taxi drivers weren't sure of the location, but once you told them behind waterbom and next to the best western, it clicked. Look forward to staying again!

Left on 02/06/2011 for a stay in January 2011
We stayed in Pondok Putu for 4 nights during Jan11. Our group consisted of 2 families (4 adults and 3 boys aged 11-15) and the villa easily accommodated all of us comfortably. There is one queen size bedroom downstairs and everyone else slept upstairs. As a result the upstairs bathroom is very large and nicely presented but we were surprised to find the downstairs bathroom so small (standing room only) - luckily only 2 people really needed to use this one. That aside, the villa felt very spacious and was a welcomed retreat after a busy day exploring Kuta.
We really appreciated the fact that we were welcome to use the swimming pool at the Best Western Hotel (which is right next door) as long as we purchased drink/food, as this pool is great (3M deep at one point!). We did this on several occasions especially as the pool at the villa is quite small - certainly not big enough for 3 boys anyway!
We did have some problems with the electricity going off one night and in the morning we told the staff at the main office who then organised for an electrician to come. By the time we came home from Waterbom Park everything was working again.
Overall the villa represented excellent value for money for the number of people in our group and the location is great. -

We stayed here for 6 nights in September (2 adults teenagers aged 19 and 16). from the first moment I contacted anne the entire stay was a positive experience. The teenagers up stairs and us down was excellent. The apartment was clean and very spacious. There was clean water to drink a great size fridge and all was fabulous. We were comfortable letting the teenagers do their own thing and when we were out felt that they were safe at home. Really i can not say enough about what a great time we had and the wonderful apartment. The best thing was the safety and comfort to return to at the end of the day.The only thing to fault and this is so picky was the beds were a bit hard (built for the light Balinese). Honestly you could not go wrong staying here and we are planning our return trip next year.

Left on 11/01/2010 for a stay in October 2010
Six of us stayed here for 3 days in October. The person we dealt with face-to-face spoke almost no English but he was obliging and did sort out some minor difficulties by ringing the guy whom we understood took care of things for the owner.
The villa is excellent at first glance. Lovely furniture and layout. For our stay the floors were a bit gritty underfoot and the kitchen cabinets needed a good sort out. Recyclable bottles and cans were stacked in the sideway; otherwise the tiny garden and small pool were well cared for.
The fourth bedroom with 2 singles is open to the upstairs foyer and stairwell, with no doors so the aircon cannot be contained. An opaque window in the stairwell leaks artificial light at night, meaning this space cannot be darkened if that is your sleeping preference.
It was unseasonally hot in October so although the living room doors folded back, we wished the room had aircon. Also unseasonally wet - getting to Kartika Plaza via the road was a bit long and hairy.
Security was the main concern.
We had to insist on getting a second set of keys - The minimum I would have thought necessary for 6 guests.
The safe was accessed using a 'key' - probably the master key. It didn't come out without a lot of jiggling, even for the person demonstrating it. I was concerned that at the most inopportune time, they key would remain stuck with our passports and money inside! Our waning confidence in the system was completely dashed when a neighbouring holiday maker asked to borrow our front door key as some of the units are keyed alike. Similar problem - not enough keys for a group. Our key didn't fit. The neighbour warned us not to use the safe as he'd had 15000 rupiah stolen from inside their safe the day before.
A hotel safe cannot be accessed by staff except at a certain level - we had no confidence in the using the safe in this unit.Response from Ann Boyd - 11/05/2010
Owner
Kuta Royal Villas are owned and operated by independent owners, so keys are unique to each villa so keys from one villa will not fit another, and staff at each villa is employed independently no staff is shared between villas, it is not a hotel.
The theft from a safe in another villa has nothing to do with this villa.
There was a minor malfunction of the safe which should have been repaired immediately, and you should not have been given the master key,but the staff were trying to please you, I apologize for this oversight.

What a find! Everything was great from the pick-up at the airport right through to the drop off with Redi the driver. We were testing the villa for the first time with kids as a possible meeting point for family from England. The villa was spacious, beautifully furnished and very well equipped. The pool was fantastic and we used it well! We were able to walk to the centre of Kuta, the beach and to Waterbom park. We will definitely return and arrange to meet family there.

We are regular travellers to Bali and had found it diffcult and expensive to get a family of 4 into traditonal hotel style accomodation. This was our first time trying a villa and enjoyed the experience compeltely. We will never do the hotel accomodation again. The extra rooms allows everyone to do their own thing - the pool is lovely and refreshing and you do not have to share it! Food can be easily purchased for the odd meal to be eaten at home and on the other occassions given the lcaotion of the villa it is easy to walk into the "hustle and bustle" of the main street and find food to met everyone's critera. We also loved being so close to Waterbom park - the kids favourite attraction. The villa itself is beatuifully furnished and would recommend it any one who wishes to escape from the everyday!

Since this was our first trip to Bali not staying in a resort we didn't know exactly what expect but ann (the owner) was fast to respond and very helpful with our questions. It's great to deal with the owner directly as it's obvious she cares about the place and takes good care of it.
The villa itself is light and bright and obviously well cared for. The location is great. The walk to the main street was easy and only took 5 minutes and you're in the middle of "the action" with restaurants and shops along the way.
The villa pool is great, and a big plus for us was that it could be closed off from the house if you want, making it safe for our 3 year old. The staff were wonderful and we arranged a day trip with Redi, who drove and looked after us and was always smiling - bless him.
Great villa and great location, we will be back next year. Definitely not staying at a resort ever again.

My husband and I took our 5 teenagers and my parents to Pondok Putu in Bali for a week in December 2009. The villa was large and airey and at first we were delighted. The location is generally good although it is a fair walk to get to the main street down alleyways which are quite scary at night. The local staff on hand in Bali were lovely. However, we did find the owner less than accommodating, The tvs didn't work most of the time we were there and the electrical wiring is dangerous in our opinion. At least half a dozen times a day/night the power went out and one of us had to go outside into the storeroom and re-set it. This happened almost every time one of us used a hair dryer or the kettle or when the pool pump cut in. I also received an electric shock from using the hairdryer on one of these occasions.
It was also very annoying when the power went off multiple times during the hot steamy nights and the lack of airconditioning or fans soon woke everyone up. It was very unsatisfactory but the staff just smiled when we told them and said that there wasn't enough power in Bali for everyone. We took it up with the owner when we returned to australia, but she didn't even respond to our email.Response from Ann Boyd - 10/09/2010
Owner
I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay in Pondok Putu, we try very hard to help guests enjoy the Island of the Gods. The walk to the Jalan Kartika Plaza takes 4 minutes down a typical Bali gang, which is much safer than a walk around Perth at night. The electricity in Bali is a problem all over the island, the villa is waiting for an upgrade by the commission. The TV is a new large LCD which works perfectly, the wiring is perfectly safe and checked each year under our maintenance program by a reputable company as are air conditioners etc.
We at Pondok Putu try very hard to make all guests feel welcome and I personally will answer all emails very promptly usually within 24 hours.
We welcome reviews and the chance to answer even if they arrive 10 months after the stay. -

Pondok Putu was wonderful, the photos don't do the villa any justice. The villa is spacious, well kept and very clean. Staying at the villa was the perfect alternative to a hotel, especially travelling with teenage children who like the space and having their own room. It was quite and private yet within walking distance to the hustle and bustle of Kuta, we enjoyed coming back at the end of the day to the serenity of the villa and relaxing by our own private pool. Our driver was also available for day tours and was very accommodating and helpful. We had a wonderful stay and would thoroughly recommend staying at Pondok Putu!

This holiday was our tenth visit to Bali and we've stayed in various accommodation over the years, some good, some not so good and some decidedly ugly! This was our first 'villa'experience and it looked so lovely when I found it on the internet but let's face it, holiday accommodation photos can be disappointing in reality!
Not so Pondok Putu - it's a lovely, lovely place to stay, so clean and spacious, decorated with taste and providing everything, and I mean everything, you could possibly need for a happy and comfortable stay.
The complex housing the villa was great too, quiet, secure and well-kept and a pleasure to return to after the hub-bub of Kuta!Although not on the main drag it doesn't take long to walk there or if you want to save all your energy for shopping, taxis arrive quickly and you could be in Kuta Square before you know it!
We loved our stay at Pondok Putu and would recommend it highly, without question, but please don't tell anyone else about it or there may never be a vacancy there again for us!!

Pondok Putu was our first non hotel experience in Bali, by no means our first trip to Bali as we have been 6 times previous, as a family of six we wont be using Hotels any more! the layout, the privacy and position of this villa was perfect for our needs.
Although off the main streets it is still an easy walk the shops and restaurants, not to far from waterbom even with young ones in tow.
The pool although not large is certainly large enough to cool off and a pleasant place to spend a late evening after busy days shopping or sight seeing. The villa staff were always pleasant and helpful,no request was a problem. We are looking forward to our next stay. -
