Suwanee, GeorgiaGreat place to use as home base in Kyoto!
Left on 03/13/2013 for a stay in February 2013
From the moment Toshi picked us up at the train station to the moment he took us back for our departure, our experience was wonderful! The condo is in a quiet neighborhood in Kyoto and is only a 10-15 minute walk to the train station (bikes are provided as well). The management was very helpful..giving us maps marked with local restaurants and shops, etc; buying baseball tickets for us; answering our questions along the way. The condo is very clean and comfortable and spacious. Kyoto is a magical place full of history. We stayed 6 nights and each day was packed with things to see and do. I highly recommend staying at this condo while in Kyoto!

Singapore, SingaporeQuintessential Kyoto local experience!
Left on 12/07/2012 for a stay in October 2012
This was a wonderful trip with our family to Kyoto and we loved staying on the West side in this local community! We could make our way to the train station by bicycle and park in the public bicycle garages (which we thought was just genius) in only 5-10 minutes. Grocery store located just down the street from the condo so we could easily grab supplies for breakfast. I did bring some pancake mixes in my suitcase but milk, syrup, eggs and fruit were easy to obtain to go with it. We had our four children with us ages 7-17 and all enjoyed this experience and would say that being out and about on the bicycles gave us such freedom to see the real Kyoto! The Bamboo grove is just minutes from the Sago arishiyama station and easy to catch the train here to go up to the mountains to the Hozu-Gawa River Trip which ends right back down near the station again. Very convenient!

The condo was in a quiet neighborhood west of Kyoto. It was a peaceful place to stay. Our teenage son very much appreciated having his own bedroom. Although getting into to downtown Kyoto involved a walk or bike-ride to a train station or bus, we enjoyed staying in a real neighborhood. We loved having a kitchen and a nearby supermarket so that we could have our morning cup of coffee and prepare some easy meals. Toshi's tour of his cultural property was a highlight. Thank you to Toshi and Hiro for all you did to make our stay most memorable.

I stayed in the condo with my husband, 2 teen sons, and my mother. It was spacious and my son liked sleeping in the tatami room on the futons. It was nice to have a washer and bikes to ride to the store. The cell phone and laptop were an extra bonus. I would definatley recommed this condo. The only negative would be it is a bit far from the train station and restaurants, but the taxi companies numbers were pre-programmed into the phone and we called for a cab when we needed to get to Kyoto station. You get the real Kyoto style living in this great condo.

We were a group of 4 adults & 1 child (2 married couples and an 18mnth old toddler).
Our host provided an excellent service - friendly, efficient and helpful - collecting and dropping off at the train station on arrival and departure. On arrival he welcomed us, guided us around the property, provided us with maps, walking guides & other useful information about the local amenities.
The property was spacious, extremely clean and tidy and comfortable. It had everything we needed and more! The property came with a laptop & free internet access and a mobile phone - very useful! There were also 4 bicycles (plus a baby seat) which were perfect for exploring Kyoto - a very bike friendly city.
The location of the property was ideal for us, located in quiet area to the west of the city. The landscape in this area was beautiful - close to bamboo forest, mountains and river. It was within easy cycling distance of some the lesser explored temples & shrines, making for a more unspoilt & less touristy experience compared to the city centre shrines (which of course were still breathtakingly spectacular and easily accessible by a short train journey - nearest station 10 min walk from the condo).
A fantastic experience.Response from Toshi - 07/28/2012

Traveling around the city on bicycle is one of the best ways to see Kyoto, so it’s great that you made good use of the bicycles. As you mentioned, the condo is very spacious and we do our best to ensure that it is spotless so our guests can relax and be comfortable during their stay. I hope you get the chance to visit Kyoto again and will chose to stay here again. I look forward to the next time. All the best.

Lafayette, COGreat Condo in West Kyoto
Left on 04/11/2012 for a stay in April 2012
My husband, son (18 months), and I stated at this apartment for 5 nights and it was fabulous. Hiro (the manager) and Toshi (the owner) were very responsive to our needs. The apartment is large and comfortably fit us and would comfortably fit a larger group. Since we had a small child with us we weren't able to take advantage of the bikes provided. To get around Kyoto we would walk (about 10 min) to the Kami-Katsura station and take the train to wherever we needed to go. This is a small station so we usually had to transfer at least once. This was a little bit of an inconvenience, but wasn't too bad.
It was nice to have a kitchen and be able to make breakfast before leaving each morning. My husband and I also enjoyed take-out food from the nearby restaurants several nights when our son went to bed early. Overall the Kyoto West Condo was a great home base for us while we were in Kyoto and I'd highly recommend it.Response from Toshi - 07/28/2012

Thank you for your comments! It was a pleasure meeting you and your family. I’m really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and were able to navigate your way using the train. The kitchen and spaciousness of the condo is something we take great pride in so I’m glad to hear you made use of the kitchen. I hope you get a chance to come to Kyoto again. We look forward to seeing you all and to seeing how big you son will have grown by then! Warm regards.

Edwardsville, IL USAGreat opportunity to truly experience Japan!
Left on 01/20/2011 for a stay in December 2010
Our family had a great time in Japan while using this well-kept, spacious condo as our home base! We were picked up at Kami-Katsura (western suburb of Kyoto) train station by the condo's friendly owner in a cool restored 1960's VW van. The owner and his nephew graciously answered questions and spent time helping us map out areas of interest. The condo was fairly modern, but we especially liked the one traditional Japanese style room.
Our family experienced a total immersion into the Japanese culture, shopping at the local groceries and bakeries, and enjoyed many local restaurants, shops, and sights.
We were a bit surprised that most Japanese homes do not have central heating, but use space heaters in each room. Be sure and dress in warm layers if you visit in the winter. The condo has a washer, but no dryer. We learned that it is traditional to hang clothing outside to dry.
A Japanese cell phone was provided as part of our stay, this was a nice perk since our american cell phones did not work at all in Japan. The complimentary internet listed on the website is not in the condo, but the owner said that we were welcome to walk to his nearby home to use the internet if needed. Very nice folks.
The condo owners took us on a special tour of their family's private registered cultural property. It was fascinating to get a glimpse into the historic property.
We had the use of 4 bikes during our visit, but we also did a lot of walking, and traveled often by train or subway. The condo owner also took us back to the train station on our last day. This condo was a very good alternative to having to rent two very small hotel rooms each night to accomodate our family. We had an amazing stay!Response from Toshi - 07/28/2012

We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We had just opened the condo so the Internet connection was not running at that time. I do apologize for that. We now offer Wi-Fi to better accommodate our guests. We hope that you will come stay with us again so we can show you another side of Kyoto. Warm wishes and happy future travels.
