Left on 08/29/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We were looking for a chalet near the French/Swiss border for a two week holiday of walking and exploring the hills and mountains in the area. We used Trip advisor and found Chalet arthur. It got very good reviews, so we booked - and we were not disappointed, in fact, quite the opposite. Chalet arthur was everything we had hoped for and the owners, Richard and angela, were the perfect hosts.

Edinburgh, ScotlandAnother wonderful 2 weeks at Chalet Arthur for the Rice family
Left on 02/23/2010 for a stay in February 2010
We were welcomed back to Chalet Arthur by Richard and Angela, for our 5th year, it's like our 2nd home now. It's big enough to accommodate all our family, with space for the 3 grandchildren and 5 adults to spread out. The chalet is fully equipped with everything we need and is clean and comfortable with a roaring fire.
The supermarket is close by and stocks just about everything. Richard can arrange ski hire and lift passes for you. There is a good bus service, or a short drive to a variety of lift systems, and of course the Porte du Soleil area is one of the largest in Europe.
Our grandchildren will always remember Chalet Arthur and building Igloos right outside. The snow is always fantastic and we just like to ski our legs off. The area is full of fantastic places to eat, both on and off the mountains.
We are back in April. -

Very comfortable accomodation in an excellent location with friendly and attentive hosts nearby. Attractive chalet on two floors with large woodburning fireplace. And everything works! Excellent for families.
Best ski-ing starts from Plein Drance area which is a short drive up the valley and gives easy access to the Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes du Soleil area. Otherwise can start at Super Chatel in the centre of the village. We have also stayed during the summer and had an equally enjoyable holiday. -

ArkelA great place to stay
Left on 02/18/2010 for a stay in October 2009
We have spent several holidays in Chalet Arthur. Our girls, 11, 12, 13, my husband and I find it a great location for spending our holiday in several seasons of the year. Chalet Arthur offers 2 bathrooms, and 3 bedrooms (one on the groundfloor) as well as additional (bed)space on a vide, a kitchen with a nice living room with fire place. It is very nice to come home from a walk, a ski-ing day and sit with the whole family at the burning fire place and relax. Because of the vide upstairs it is also easy to split up. If you want to read or watch tv you don't have to disturb eachother. Outside you have a nice picknick table for lunch or dinner. Chalet Arthur is located in the country site, and is situated between Chatel and Chapelle d'Abondance. Shops and restaurants are nearby. Ski-lifts are not far away. You can start your walk in front of the house. Swimming is possible in Chatel. The house is clean and the owner is very friendly and helpfull. You don't have to bring your own bedlinnen and a washing machine is there as well. Chalet Arthur is a great place for a fantastic holiday.

Geriatric Ski Bum
Worcestershire, EnglandSix Years Skiing from Chalet Arthur
Left on 02/09/2010 for a stay in January 2010
I, together with my family and many of my friends, have used Chalet Arthur for the past six winters as a base for exploring the Portes du Soleil.
In that time I have never tired of the skiing, it’s amazingly extensive and varied, connections are good, it crosses the French/Swiss border and there are many excellent mountain restaurants. We have generally had good snow conditions. As Chatel has a fairly central position, it is possible for those capable of skiing red runs competently to visit even the more remote areas and return in a day.
Chalet Arthur provides homely accommodation which is of a higher standard than most other French properties we have rented. It is kept clean and well maintained. There is a washing machine, tumble dryer and hot cupboard which is ideal for drying wet ski gear and boots. The well equipped kitchen is easy to work in and adjacent to the dining area. Hot stone and raclette machines are provided. The lounge has two large and comfortable sofas and there is always a good supply of logs provided for the fire. The beds are very comfortable but the twin bedded rooms are quite small. The mezzanine sleeping area is open to both lounges. The garage is large enough to take any size of car.
The chalet is located in a beautiful valley midway between La Chapelle d’Abondance, a traditional French Village, and Chatel, a busy ski resort. Both are about 2 miles away, have links into the Portes du Soleil skiing and a selection of shops, bars and restaurants. There is a large supermarket about 500 yards from the chalet.
As transport is needed to get to the ski lifts and local shops and restaurants, I believe it is essential to have the use of a car whilst staying at Arthur. It is 500 miles from Calais and about an hour and a half’s drive from Geneva airport.
The English owners, who live in a traditional farmhouse 50 yards from the chalet, have a detailed knowledge of the area, and make every effort to ensure your stay is an enjoyable one.

Left on 02/08/2010 for a stay in January 2010
Chalet Arthur is a great chalet. It is very warm and welcoming. The kitchen is well equipped and clean. The bedrooms are of a nice size and very comfy. We like the TV lounge upstairs for those that want to watch a Dvd and others can enjoy the lovely log fire or admire the views of Chatel from the windows downstairs.
The owners of Chalet Arthur are always willing to help on any information you require about Chatel.
We think Chatel is a great place for winter and summer there is lots to do in both seasons and has some of the most fantastic restaurants!!!!!
