Gaze out at the Pacific Ocean from your private balcony as you sip your morning coffee and at the end of the day, catch the sunset while you cook dinner on the gas BBQ.
The Penthouse, our 300 sq ft studio, is located on the 3rd (top) floor. A parking area behind the building is available for your exclusive use and will accommodate most vehicles, making parking at the beach very easy. Access to th...e Studio is in the back by your parking space, up an outside spiral staircase or up the front stairway. If you are combining the upper two bedroom with the Studio, which makes 3 bdrm/3ba two story accommodation, then you can use the indoor stairway between the two floors. (Access is locked and restricted when booked separately).
Our quaint and comfortable studio can sleep up to 2 adults and two children but we recommend it for 2 people due to the overall size. There is a queen sized sofa/futon and a queen sized Murphy bed - which folds up and out of the way and a dining table appears in its place! This condo also features cable TV, DVD player, cable internet with WiFi and nicely-equipped efficiency kitchen with sink, microwave, toaster oven, a portable two-burner cooktop, compact refrigerator, dishes, glasses and utensils.
Centrally located, you are an easy drive (or walk) to all that San Diego has to offer: less than 1 minute to the beach, 2 minutes to the many shops and restaurants in Windansea, 5 minutes to the heart of old La Jolla village, 10 minutes to the "children's pool" - now a resting place for seals and sea lions, 10 minutes to the famous La Jolla Cave and La Jolla Cove, the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art, the world famous Comedy Store, numerous boutiques and shops and a dazzling array of restaurants offering unmatched international cuisine.
Beyond the Jewel that is La Jolla, you're only 15-20 minutes from Sea World, San Diego's famous Old Town, downtown's Gas Lamp District and Little Italy, the Embarcadero with it's floating museums and lovely SeaPort Village, and the airport. Just 20 minutes away you'll find the World Famous San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park and fine shopping at San Diego's Fashion Valley. About 30 minutes away you can enjoy Legoland, Knott's Soak City or the Wild Animal Safari Park. And although we don't recommend going to Mexico, if you are so inclind and have a passport with you, Tijuana is only 40 minutes south. Better to explore the historical gold rush town of Julian in San Diego's mountains or go down the other side into Anza Borrego Desert State Park (not recommended in summer).
This studio can be combined with the 2 bdrm/2bath condo just below it for a 3bdrm/3ba two story condo. Or rent all three units to sleep 10 - 18 people.
A petite, but well-equipped studio with a gigantic ocean view

The space may have been small, but everything you could possibly need is there. The ocean view is amazing, but alas some of that view will soon be blocked by a new condo. The owner is a nice fellow, and very concerned that we enjoyed the place. The neighborhood can't be beat for the value.

We spent a week at The Penthouse. We grew accustomed to the small space for the week but noticed that a good portion of the floor plan was taken up by a stairwell. This created a smaller living space. The fold-out bed was easy to use and very functional. The mattress was excellent! We liked having internet access, cable television, and cell phone service. We were a little surprised to not have any drinking glasses to pour beverages into. We bought plastic ones in the local grocery store. A big plus is the ability to do laundry for free on site and a recycling bin available. Climbing the 2 flights of stairs can be challenging but we managed even when carrying groceries and laundry. We were lucky to have a spectacular view of the ocean and surfers but that will probably change when the new 3-story unit is built in front of the property. We would assume there will be a view of the ocean but the waves crashing onto the shore will be diminished. The location is great and we would return because of the close proximity to the beach and the affordable rates.

This studio apartment was perfect for our 4 day stay in La Jolla. We were only a block away from the ocean and spent every day playing on the beach and in the waves. The apartment had everything we needed. We made all our meals in the kitchen and the kitchen had just about everything we needed for our meals (it did not have knives or a cutting board - we just got creative). There were tons of beach toys which our 2 year old loved having, and she was thrilled to find a box full of trains, which was put to good use at the end of the day. It was really convenient to have a washer and dryer and laundry detergent to use. Our balcony door was wide open every night as we enjoyed the sun set and the sounds of the ocean. We would consider renting one of the lower units with little ones as climbing the narrow staircase was tricky with a little one - but we didn't have any issues. The apartment was stocked with everything you don't want to bother with picking up while on vacation - paper towels, trash bags, dish soap, cleaner, shampoo and conditioner and soap - very convenient. We really loved the proximity to the beach and all the available amenities that we didn't have to worry about bringing or finding ourselves.

We loved the penthouse suite, where we could keep the porch door open and hear the waves all night! The owner was also very responsive when we had a minor problem and came right over even though it was 9:00pm. Couldn't be happier!

It was just as your site said it would be. Very comfortable, great view of the beach and surf. We cooked 2 times on the balcony. Slept well listening to the surf. We drank our coffee in the mornings, watching the surfers. Toured San Diego, and up and down the coast from La Jolla to Oceanside. Met the owner and was a super nice man. The parking wasn't bad, but you wouldn't want a full size truck to get in there. Thanks to Nancy's rentals, I am sure we will be back, it was very clean and had all the needs for our week. Thanks so much! Pennie and Larry

For the price, this was a great location with a full ocean view. The apt. was clean and had all amenities of a home if you choose to use them. It was much better than a hotel room, private entrance and balcony with the great ocean views. The 3 flight spiral staircase may not be for everyone but I had no problem with it. Bikes are provided with locks so you can sight see on a bike, one of the best ways to see La Jolla. I would definitely stay there again.

Room just as described. Narrow spiral stairs to 3rd floor. Small but clean. Accommodates 2 adults. Has all you need, stove, fridge, etc. really nice deck to view ocean sunsets. We were happy here for the price and would gladly stay here again.
Perfect for a couple who can climb some stairs

The location with a view and the surf sounds and walking distance from great LaJolla eateries is perfect for visitors to the area. As the top floor can only be reached by climbing a pretty steep circular staircase, renters should be in pretty good shape and not have to carry too many suitcases, but the porch/deck is awesome.
The arrangement of the unit and size of the seating area makes it a little harder to have conversations of more than four people. Also made it pretty tough for more than two to spend much time inside.
Overall, we were pleased with the experience, especially with the help from the unfailingly courteous folks at Nancy's. Thank you.

My friend and I were looking for a relaxing vacation. La Jolla is so beautiful. From this studio you can see the beach and sleep well with the sound of waves.
The only inconvenient was the narrow stairs. Come prepared with small bags make your way up easier. :)
Overall; I stay at this place again.
Great place - great value

My GF and I stayed here for 4 nights while we were visiting family in the area. Cute and cozy with all the comforts of home. We really loved the location and the unit. Great balcony with gas grill and a view of the water and surfers. Great for a couple. I wouldn't rent it with kids unless you also rented the 2nd floor unit. Off season rate $89 / night + tax + $90 cleaning was very reasonable. Loved the free bikes that came with the unit. We rode all the way to pacific beach and up to Torrey Pines park.
Only thing that was a little weird was the booking agent. They handle a number of properties on Vrbo.com where I found the place. I actually started by looking at another place they had listed. I called about that one and was told it wasn't available. The agent asked me what my "price range" was which I thought was a strange question. I told her $150 / night She then emailed me a list of places for about $180 - $220 night.
Then I found this place and saw that they were the agent for it also. I asked her if it was available and she confirmed that it was and told me that she had "forgotten" to mention it. I then completed the transaction online without problems at the price quoted on Vrbo.com.
I guess I'd rent from them again but I would be sure to do plenty of research and make sure you are getting the best price since they seem very willing to up sell you if they can.
Also: Not good for people with disabilities as you have to climb up 2 stories on a narrow winding staircase. Read more
Response from Nancy's Vacation Rentals - 10/26/2012
We're very happy to hear that this guest enjoyed this vacation rental and location! We apologize if for some reason it seemed as though we were trying to up-sell, this is definitely not our intention. We typically ask budget as well as size etc. and other personal preferences, in order to gauge which of our vacation rentals would be the best possible match for a specific guest. We want our guest's to choose a property that is perfect for their budget and tastes as we know that this will create the best over-all experience for all parties involved, NVR included (we want and aim for happy guests!). In this instance, the agent likely included 1-bedroom options only not realizing that this guest would also be open to a studio property (no bedroom). Rest assured, a quick search on our direct website will show all available options, there is no desire to not be transparent on our end. All of our agents provide recommendations in order to try and match a guest to a property that they are going to love and yearn to return to time and time again! This is always our ultimate aim.

The service we received was prompt and courteous. They responded to our phone call within 15 min and supplied us with helpful information. The penthouse studio was very nice and cozy and offered a lot of privacy with our on separate entrance and private balcony. It was a little tight for four people but we made it work. Even the spiral staircase wasn't to bad but you have to be able to make it up them. With the penthouse being located on the 3rd floor you had a beautiful view of the ocean a 1/2 block away. It was nice to be able to leave the patio door open at night and hear the waves hit the beach. The only issue I had was the cleanliness of the place. With paying $90.00 to clean the place it should have been spotless. No spots on carpet and a clean kitchen table would have been nice.
An oasis for casual vacationers with an amazing view.

Welcome to my new second home (I wish!). I spent seven nights and eight days solo; my entire agenda was to relax.
This quaint penthouse apartment is perfect for casual vacationers or travelers: simple, safe, clean, and boasts an amazing view. If you want a place to relax in peace and quiet, to serve as your home base when exploring the San Diego/La Jolla area, you should consider this apartment. If you select your place based on swanky contemporary fixtures and granite counter tops, you'll be more comfortable elsewhere.
Your almost-180 degree view of the ocean is unobstructed from the bed, better from the futon, and absolutely amazing from the nearly-private balcony/patio (you even see it in the bathroom mirror). The surrounding area is almost entirely residential - no buses, no police sirens, no heavy foot or vehicle traffic, etc. I woke up to sounds of the ocean. I fell asleep to the sounds of the ocean. And I admired the sights and sounds of the ocean all day...for eight days.
I'm a go-with-the-flow kind of guy, so here's what's good. The view, location, cleanliness, close proximity to the beach, bicycles, beach "stuff," service, and peace and quiet (really, the view and the peace and quiet make for an amazing combination).
Here's what I thought could be better. Parking is very tight (but doable with a little patience), Wifi signal is somewhat weak (though an Ethernet cable is provided), and the carpet and artwork could use updating (but certainly not horrible). Also the spiral staircase to the third floor could be challenging for some (think heavy luggage and small steps). But are any of these super important if you're agenda is to relax?
Apartment is perfect for couples, or four friends who don't mind close quarters when you're there. Would also work for a couple with a young child, though not for a couple with more than one child, or even one child who's beyond 18 months (you'll want more space).
I will return to this oasis!
Relaxing get a way.
