CASA MARIPOSA is part of Villa Chuparosa, a tropical jewel located high on a hill in La Penita, a picturesque busy small town on Jaltemba Bay, part of the lush Mexican Riviera, 40 miles N of Puerto Vallarta. This villa compound features two separate rentals & the owner's hacienda (1) A large studio with complete kitchenette, "Nature Haven for Two" & (2) CASA MARIPOSA (butterfly), a colorful, spacious 2 bdrm villa with a large kitchen & all the small appliances any cook could desire.

LA PENITA is part of an incredibly beautiful bay with scores of intriguing shops & as many services as found in small cities. Great produce... stands, Fresh fish & shrimp caught daily, Laundries, Banks, Hospitals, a currency exchange, Rodeo Arena etc.

PERFECT FOR A FAMILY, COUPLES, or a REUNION. Use the 2nd bedroom for parents or friends who can visit only part of your vacation for a reasonable fee per night. BEDS: A double bed in one bedroom and two twin beds in the other, with a double high twin air mattress for a 5th person and a settee for a younger person. For a baby or toddler - a portable crib/playpen. Lots of space to hang clothes plus 3 dressers. A clothesline just beyond the back porch is perfect for hanging bathing suits, towels, etc.

TALL WALLS laden with bougainvilleas surround this compound, providing total privacy and security, keeping out roaming animals - such as goats and the occasional riderless horse, all escaped and looking for greener pastures.

HIGH on a PICTURESQUE HILL. Unobstructed Pacific breezes. Just one block more to the crest of our hill and you look out upon a completely unexpected beautiful agricultural valley with many smooth dirt roads for safe BICYCLING or HORSEBACK RIDING. AND just 2 short blocks down from our villa is an internet cafe (bi-lingual computer engineers) & a mini-market.

Libby & Jerry have created a "most beautiful private world". They take great pleasure helping guests have a wonderful Mexican adventure. Flowers everywhere, a JUNGLE GARDEN HAVEN, a large sparkling POOL, and an UPPER DECK. Part of the view even includes a unique island with a private beach, cliffs, marvelous snorkeling, and a seabird sanctuary on the far side, visible from a restaurant on a jungled cliff on a far side of the bay.

UPPER DECK. This guest favorite is a story above the courtyard, furnished for dining, socializing, sunning, card games, using the free wi-fi or just gazing at the breathtaking views. You can also see the pastoral rolling hills on each side of Villa Chuparosa, named for the Sp. word for hummingbird and the 8 species attracted to our special feeders .

WALK TO OUR CLEAN BEAUTIFUL SILKY SAND BEACH. Less than a km. No matter which street you choose for that walk to the beach, the insights you get of life in this coastal Mexican town are both fascinating and a revelation. Take a taxi back for $2 if too much produce weighs you down.. It's such a treat to hear the incoming Pacific surf when dropping off to sleep.. You will find you prefer to be outside, to dine on the Upper Deck (palapa) or read, nap, play cards, breakfast at sunrise, or socialize on a lounge or the table by the pool.

MORNING CATCH. The fishermen bring in their nets in the early morning and will clean & fillet your choice of fish, all at an unbelievably low price.

DRY SEASON. December to May is the dry season on this coastal area - NO pesky insects. Sunny skies and a range of 62F (17C) while sleeping to a mid-day high of 70-80F (27C), tempered by the unobstructed cooling breezes.. even when it is hot at sea level downtown.

We love our private tropical paradise, just 7 short blocks from the business district, 2 short blocks to the family run 'mini-super', 3 blocks to an excellent family doctor. Jerry enjoys having guests join him on his famous "educational & entertaining" nature walks, complimentary to guests, no limit on how often you go.

EARLY each morning, Jerry puts bananas on platform feeders and scatters seed on the Jungle Garden path.. We attract the exotic Painted Bunting, 4 species of orioles & many other beautiful birds. The 'hummers" { 8 species over the winter) will sit on a bare twig nearby, easy to watch from both outside tables in our private inner courtyard..

MAID SERVICE: Twice weekly, including linen exchange, beds made, cleaning the bathroom & all floors.

Additional Location Information

We are located high on a hill overlooking the bay in a quiet residential neighborhood. A variety of interesting architectual styles greet the eye with a most pleasing mixture. Near our villa, one street south, is a family run mini-super, an internet shop with many services, and an excellent family physician. A few blocks north is a produce store & tortilla factory!
One block further to the crest of the hill is a huge agricultural valley, mostly pineapples. However, this valley has rental horses and the smooth dirt roads with no traffic are excellent to ride on.
Parking inside the villa walls is totally secure but it is safe to leave a car street side. Taxis are a 5 minute wait away, for 2 persons it is usually 30 pesos. A bus station & taxi stand are 6 blocks away. In addition 'combi' vans constantly come & go, from this same location, to severaal locations in neighboring Guayabitos for about 7 pesos.

  My sister and I shared this lovely villa that is part of a walled in property that shares one other Villa and the home of the owners. While there we enjoyed the ammenities a lovely pool and palapa which rises above the walls above the pool area where the veiw of the village below and the ocean is outstanding, amazing sunsets. Villa Chuparosa is located high on the hill with the village below and the small bustling Mexican town all within walking distance or a $2.00 cab ride that comes in handy if you don't want to walk back up hill (great cardio). A very safe town we always felt comfortable and the locals are extremely friendly.
  
  Our first day there we took off on a wonderful tour with the owner Jerry to San Blas the tour started as soon as we were on the highway as Jerry educated us on the areas plants, and wildlife along the way. When we reached San Blas we (8 of us) took a wonderful boat trip that took us through the Mangrove swamps a wildlife habitat most people will never see in person. I feel blessed to have had this experience something I will never forget. Then we went for a well deserved lunch in San Blas. Jerry is so knowledgable and a great teacher he may even quiz you once or twice so pay attention!
  
  After that trip it was hard to imagine anything could compare, but make sure you stay over on a Thursday so you can go to the local Market in La Penita, and go to the wonderful restaurant on the cliff south of Guayabitos, the beach in Guayabitos is a whirl of activity spend a day there watching all the vendors it is so colorful! bring your camera soak in the rays, and swim. The beach sand there glistens with gold and is as fine as I've ever seen..
  
  Looking forward to my return next year. I love this town and I can't imagine a better place to stay.

  A Fabulous Ten Days

  We thank Jerry & Libby for a fabulous 10 days. They opened their home to us and made us feel like family. San Blas, the nature walk, and the global warming classes were more than we could have imagined on one trip. The knowledge passed on to all os us is such a gift. (our children are 10, 11, & 13)
  We will treasure their friendship and look forward to spending many more years with them at Villa Chuparosa in La Penita, Mexico.

  This is a perfect vacation with a beautiful view of Jaltemba Bay. It is quiet and peaceful and Jerry's knowledge of the birds and butterflies adds to your enjoyment of this restful place. We came to visit friends but will be coming back soon.

  I highly recommend "Villa Chuparosa”. We chose the Cassita (Casa Mariposa) which is a very nice and comfortable place to stay with plenty of room inside. There is a patio area with a nice pool where you can watch the hummingbirds feed or walk the private garden that has many beautiful plants. We relaxed in the Palapa were there was always a nice breeze, it also offers a wonderful view of the ocean and surrounding area. Cool nights and warm days are the norm. The Villa is completely enclosed, offering a secure and private atmosphere.
  Jerry and Libby are fantastic hosts who always made sure we were well informed about things to do in the area. You'll have the latest local knowledge when it comes to area restaurants and markets. Jerry has an extensive background in education and biology. He conducts guided nature walks that are both informative and educational. One of the best is the San Blas tour through the mangroves.
