      Peaceful, clean & friendly

Left on 08/27/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Chris & martin's instructions on how to get here by car were absolutley first rate. We don't use sat-nav and prefer a map and brain. We found the apartment in its lovely leafy setting quite easily and saw a red squirrel within 15 mins of getting there.

We were met by Chris & Martin who showed us the studio which is on the second floor of a very quiet residential block. Lift access is excellent and the apartment is perfect for 2 - well equipped, clean, tidy and with a relaxing balcony with steamer chairs. after a 25 min walk back from town the scenic way, it was great to relax on the balcony with a chilled glass of wine; watching the birds.

It was a really good base to explore the area from - Ile de Re etc but we actually preferred to just take it easy and relax on the balcony after a good walk out in the morning.

Chris and Martin were very friendly, professional and obviously care very much about giving their guests the highest quality of service. Their communications throughout the booking process upto the point of meeting at the studio were the best we have encountered, so thanks guys!

It was a very good location with convenient parking but without 'sat nav' the street layout in La Rochelle is very daunting to the tourist car driver. However their was an excellent taxi service
when required. The immediate residential neighbours were very friendly and helpful.

      A Lovley Birthday Treat

Left on 06/05/2011 for a stay in May 2011

We have recently returned from a most enjoyable week in this apartment. It is in a private residential area in a lovley parkland setting very quiet and peaceful. Martin was there to greet us on our arrival and surprised me with a bottle of champagne!!! ( I have recently celebrated a special birthday) The apartment is very clean and comfortable very well equipped with everything and more and there was a welcome pack of essential food items when we arrived. There is extensive information about the area ie places to visit and eat and more. It is a 10 to 15 mins walk either through the park or by the sea front to the centre of La Rochelle. We really enjoyed walking through the animal park on the way to the beach (you must stop to watch the peacocks putting on a display so beautiful!)The local beach is a must and if it gets to hot in the sun it is lovley just sitting at the beach bar in the shade people watching and looking out to sea the lady is very friendly and the snacks reasonably priced. We ate out (Andres)the crab was a fait acomplie!!!. but we found we enjoyed our meals in the apartment much more. The local shops are so near and the deli on the ave Jean Guiton is a must restaurant standard food ( half the price)the cakes wow what can I say!!! The local market nearby the apartment on a thursday is worth a visit all fresh produce and more we bought freshly cooked chicken ratatoille for 5 euros to take away a lovley lunch in the apartment. Our last day was spent on the Il de Re a lovley island well worth a visit we took the bus from the centre of la Rochelle a very pleasant drive through the small villages to St Martin and ate Moules by the harbour a lovley end to our stay.
Martin kindly gave us a lift to the airport at the end of our holiday all in all it was a most enjoyable week. There was some building work going on on the apartment block opposite but we found it limited and did not really notice it as we spent most of the day away .

      Perfect location, location, location!!

Left on 06/04/2011 for a stay in May 2011

I have stayed at this apartment several times before and this is the high standard that is exactly what I have come to expect from Chris and Martin.
Every thing you would need for a mini or even longer break to La Rochelle is there for you, in a neat, clean, modern and tastefully kitted out accommodation.
The kitchen has every appliance required including a dishwasher (perfect! Who wants to wash up on holiday?!!)
The studio itself consists of a very comfortable bed and sofa to chill out on after a busy day site seeing in beautiful La Rochelle.
The apartment is located in a superb part of the city, so easy to walk into town, with enough places to eat and choice (I reckon you could spend a month here and still not visit every restaurant!)
It's also worth mentioning that the location is also quiet that you can equally have a peaceful and restful time as well as enjoying busy La Rochelle.

      Thanks again guys! Perfect!!

      Votre appartement est merveilleux!

if you want a bad holiday experience stay here

Left on 05/22/2011 for a stay in May 2011

The photographs of this apartment are not of what it looks like now, its tired and needs serious updating, it looks like local authority housing, it is on the 2nd floor of a tall block and there are lots of permanent residents. Do not expect to find the lovely park views or the stone building near here they are 5 minutes walk away and cannot be seen from the apartment.
The apartment overlooks the car park used by residents with very large trees beyond and faces east. And not very clean, we found long dark hairs everywhere and had to clean the apartment before we could use it.
We booked 1 week but left after a few days after phoning the owners but before making other arrangements; mainly because of the noise of building works going on at the apartments across the way, hammering, power tools you name it we had it and the owners knew it was going on but never mentioned it!!!
After we returned to the uk we received an email from the owners who said we could have used their other apartment but never offered it to us when in france. When we complained they refunded us £70!!! we had paid them £445 for the week.
All these apartment blocks are pretty close to one another and all including this one need renovation and as long as you intend being out of the apartment between 8am and 6pm, only want to sleep a few hours each night, are happy with scaffolding and are prepared to clean at the beginning and end of your stay you will be happy.
There is no soundproofing in the apartment and the woman above who is a resident gets up no later than 6.30 am and likes to move furniture and do her cleaning at any time. Some nights she does a lot of walking around in heels around midnight and also rearranges furniture.
The kitchen is miniature and has virtually no workspace to even prepare a salad. Lounge is ok. Sofa and chair uncomfortable. Other furnishings ok.
Bedroom ok, bathroom old with dingy lighting.
      Seafront 10 mins walk away.

Response from Chris and Martin - 05/29/2011

      Chris and Martin

      Owner

We welcome all feedback, but are surprised by this feedback as in the note the guests left us they had stated “You have a lovely, well equipped apartment” and in our telephone conversation and subsequent emails they had expressed no concerns at all about the apartment, until submitting this review.
      .....................................................................................................................
The only concerns that they had expressed were not about the apartment but about the noise they had experienced - and in particular their desire for us to refund them the additional expenses they incurred as a result of their choosing to return home 3 days early.
      .....................................................................................................................
We are very sorry that Chris and Rick remain dissatisfied with the action we have taken as a result of those concerns – not least because this is the first time in 8 years of renting out this and other French properties that we have had this situation.
      .....................................................................................................................
On the contrary, guests regularly comment upon our service, attention to detail and responsiveness. We have many guests who return to the apartment year after year and the other reviews on Tripadvisor speak for themselves. Guests have specifically commented upon the accuracy of our advert and website including “what you see is what you get – a rare thing these days” and the reviews include many 5 stars for cleanliness (e.g. “apartment spotless”). We make it clear that this is not a modern holiday complex. It is a French residence with French people living in it and it therefore suits those wanting an independent holiday, “living as French people do” – in a sought after residence in a highly desirable area of La Rochelle.
      .....................................................................................................................
The noise experienced by Chris and Rick was due to work being undertaken at the time on the façade of another apartment block. Other guests who had stayed before and after them had expressed no concerns – indeed one couple had asked to stay longer. They told us that whilst there was some noise at times, it was not a serious inconvenience and that in any case by the time they had returned from a day out exploring La Rochelle, all work had finished.
      .....................................................................................................................
We were therefore all the more concerned when Chris and Rick phoned us to say that they had decided to return home early. Had they not already taken that decision we would have happily offered to transfer them to our other apartment for the rest of their stay, with an appropriate refund for the reduced price.
      .....................................................................................................................
However, we recognised that Chris and Rick had felt more disturbed by the noise than other guests had been, we were very sorry for that and we therefore gave them a 15% cash refund by way of an apology for any inconvenience they experienced.
      .....................................................................................................................
Furthermore, whilst it was their decision to return home 3 days early (and incur the expenses in doing so) we nevertheless made an additional offer of a 50% discount on any future booking. Given their positive feedback about the apartment we felt they would welcome the opportunity to return again for half price, by which time the work would have been completed long ago – they themselves had recognised the work “may have finished (even) before your next guests arrive”.
      .....................................................................................................................
Unfortunately, they clearly remain dissatisfied with our offer of 15% cash refund + 50% discount on a future booking. We very much regret this, as we do all we can to provide a great service and ensure guests have a great holiday, but recognise that on this occasion the guests may have felt it necessary to leave a review critical of our not increasing our offer of financial compensation.
      .....................................................................................................................
However, we remain surprised that the review is instead mainly criticism of the apartment (that they had described as a “lovely, well equipped apartment”) and would ask that the review be read in the context of this response and the other reviews submitted by guests, including “We were four weeks in France & without doubt this was the best accommodation (Hotels & Apartments) we stayed in.”
      .....................................................................................................................

      A Dream Holiday

Left on 07/08/2010 for a stay in June 2010

We stayed in this apartment for 7 nights and were reluctant to leave at the end of our holiday!

It offered us everything we wanted...great location, nearby parks, gardens and walks, good public transport facilities, lovely old town, balcony with comfortable steamer chairs and a exceptionally well kept and equipped apartment.

The owners really go the extra mile with the booking arrangements, provide lots of little extras in the apartment which you wouln't normally expect and a give you a welcoming reception.

Comfortable spacious studio in quite location

Left on 02/28/2010 for a stay in May 2008

We stayed in the studio for 5 nights before moving on to Chris & Martin's gite at Chez Ravet. The service we had from the guys is second to none and they were even kind enough to pick us up from La Rochelle airport. There is everything you need in the studio including a welcome grocery pack. There is loads of tourist information and recommendations of places to visit and eat, from Chris & Martin and previous guests.

Off the foyer is the bathroom and large walk in wardrobe/storage room. The lounge/bedroom is very roomy and again with pleanty of storage. Off the lounge area is a well equiped, separate kitchen with a small table. Both the lounge and kitchen open out to a large balcony, overlooking the gardens, which is lovely to sit out on at any time of the day.

There is a good supermarket within walking distance, and also some local shops. If you like sport I suggest you go to a game at the local rugby club, we missed it but could hear the cheers from the balcony and it sounded great fun.

There are a couple of restaurants within a 5 - 10 minute walk but the best ones are in La Rochelle, which is probably a good 30 minute walk, and this could be a draw back for some people. It is a lovely walk (if the weather is fine) through a park and down a wide avenue, but we found that if we did a lot of walking during the daytime, it was quite a trek to go into La Rochelle in the evening.

Would definately recommend this studio and La Rochelle is a great base for visiting this area of France.

      Wonderful Apartment !

Left on 02/16/2010 for a stay in August 2009

Once again, another fantastic stay in the apartment in La Rochelle.
Nothing quite compares to this, (and I have stayed in quite a few holiday apartments) for home from home!
Everything you could possibly need is to hand in very comfortable accommodation. The location is within a residential area and is very quiet and peaceful..however, Cosmopolitan La Rochelle is only 10 minutes away!
La Rochelle, itself, is within walking distance and there are plenty of places to eat to suit all budgets.
La Rochelle is also a perfect base to explore the Vendee and surrounding area. Don't miss the opportunity to hire cycles and bike over to Ille de Re.

Peaceful location within easy reach of towncentre and beaches.

Left on 02/15/2010 for a stay in October 2009

Chris & Martin are very welcoming hosts and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them. The accomodation is clean and comfortable with most things you would need on holiday for 3 or 14 days. It's lovely to sit out on the balcony and relax with a good book, and although there are other properties all around it is very peaceful.
Being situated in the Parcs it is lovely to wander round the calming setting and you are within walking distance of the beaches and promenades along by the sea. La Rochelle itself is a 10 - 15 minute walk which is great after eating and drinking in one of the many wonderful restaurants there is no worry about drinking and driving.
We would recommend this studio appartment to anyone.
