Description from the owner
Tucked between the Dordogne River and steep, dramatic stone cliffs, the village of La Roque Gageac is the picturesque location for this completely renovated three thousand square foot stone house. Dating from the Middle Ages, the Dordogne Village-House is reportedly the oldest in the village. There are ancient stone steps gently ascending the hill, leading directly to the house. It offers an excellent opportunity to savor the natural beauty of this distinct area of France, as well as a truly authentic medieval village. This idealic setting is convenient with wonderful restaurants, casual dining and great pizza within steps from the house.

Adelaide, AustraliaOne of the Very Best
Left on 05/04/2013 for a stay in April 2012
The only bad thing about Le Bourg was having to leave - what a wonderful holiday house - it clearly shows that you take much pride in presenting such a wonderful house. What can we say - the house was wonderful; the location was perfect; Le Bourg and La Roque-Gageac is full of so much history. The surrounding towns and many of the chateaus are so full of history and beauty and all within a short easy drive from La Roque-Gageac. We were sorry that we had not booked Le Bourg for 2 weeks instead of just the one - there was so much else that we could have visited but simply ran out of time. At least that gives us an appetite to go back to Le Bourg.
The evening meals prepared by Chef Dimitri also added to our special memories of Le Bourg, particularly having dinner on the terrace and overlooking the Dordogne River. We can highly recommend Dimitri to anyone intending to stay at Le Bourg.
To sum up our time at Le Bourg there is only one word - the location, the beauty of the region and chef Dimitri - wonderful. Kitty's help and advice prior to our stay was just great - all emails were responded to immediately and nothing was too much trouble - thanks Kitty.
We are independent aussie travellers and have stayed in many holiday homes around France and Italy - Le Bourg was one of the best - congratulation Kitty and thanks for the opportunity to stay at your wonderful home.

San Luis ObispoThe best week ever!
Left on 08/01/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Our stay at "Le Bourg" in La Roque-Gageac was the most wonderful week my wife and I have ever experienced. The village of La Roque was unbelievable, the weather was fantastic, the house (Le Bourg) was to die for. Kitty's home is located on the cliff, a short hike (with stairs) above the village and features probably the best private terrace in the area. We enjoyed sitting with our glass of wine and meal nightly, overlooking the Dordogne River and greeting the tourists as they passed by with jealousy, wondering how we acquired such an exquisite setting. The interior of this 700 year old stone house has been totally modernized and did not lack any comforts whatsoever. My wife said that she has never slept better in the master bedroom and bed. The kitchen was perfect and it was nice to have a washing machine at our disposal. I hope you get the chance to experience this exceptional home, with an attentive host, in the most beautiful area you will ever see in France.

32655Wonderful Stone House in Stunning Dordogne
Left on 05/20/2012 for a stay in April 2012
Our favorite spot by far on our three week vacation in France and Spain was your wonderful vacation home in Dordogne! Even with the rain. We didn't let anything stop us from exploring castles, gardens, caves, towns, open air markets, and the beautiful countryside. We just put on our rain gear and took off! The home was perfect! Warm and comfortable and in a terrific location. Dimitri came to the house and cooked us a fabulous dinner - very creative and delicious! Helen is a treasure! We visited her often for wine recommendations. What a wonderful experience! Thank you for all of your recommendations, and thank you for opening your home to us and introducing us to this beautiful location. I know we'll be back.

Carlsbad, CaliforniaBack again in La Roque Gageac--Paradise undiscovered.
Left on 09/27/2010 for a stay in September 2010
We discovered this little town several years ago by accident and have returned five times to date. We went with our friends and found the accomidations perfect. The kitchen is very spacious which makes it perfect for all the little market finds from all the nearby villages. Our view of the river from the outside grapevine covered patio was outstanding, especially when the hot air balloons flowed right along the river. Le Bourg has everything you would dream about for a French vacation: a beautiful 700 old year house, a cook's delight, spacious enough for friends or family with 4 large bedrooms, 2 full updated baths and half bath. And, you get to engage with the local villagers! Demetri, a personal chef cooked us an incredible dinner twice while there. That was an incredible bonus!
We've been fortunate to travel to many beautiful places, but Le Bourge in La Roque is tops! -

Southern CaliforniaThe most wonderful vacation place in France
Left on 07/16/2010 for a stay in April 2010
The home is wonderful. The bedrooms and bathrooms are furnished beautifully. Actually the entire home is. The kitchen is large and roomy and perfect for a family or friends traveling together. The house is especially perfect for friends or two families traveling together because there are two bedrooms and one bath on two separate floors so you have privacy. The location is ideal. The bakery is a very short walk down the steps for a fresh baquette in the morning. There is a charming restaurant a few steps from that where the food is excellent to say the least. Across the street is the river where you can rent a canoe or have someone else take you for a ride. You are surrounded by beautiful scenery. Sarlat is not far away, where there is the open market with many vendors, the cheese lady, the butcher, the farmers. It is as busy or relaxing as you want it to be. Don't forget to visit Domme, it is another type of treat.

Santa Barbara, CaliforniaThe perfect house in the perfect region for a taste of paradise.
Left on 03/14/2010 for a stay in July 2009
We decided to rent a house in the Dordogne to celebrate our 50th wedding
anniversary with friends and family because, being serious Francophiles,
we knew that the Dordogne offers much for all ages: scenery, history,
quaint villages, a variety of activities. I wanted a place on the river
so that the teenagers had something to keep them busy. After searching
through the hundreds of properties available, we chose the Zieglers'
house. Little did we know what an excellent choice it was! Arriving at
the property, I expected to be disappointed since websites invariably
hide the warts. Not so here. This house is better than the photos;
there are no warts. The entire ground floor is an expansive,
functional, welcoming living space both indoors and out where all of us
could gather without ever feeling cramped, and different groups had
enough space to do their own thing at the same time. Sharing a house
is not always easy, but the four bedrooms on two different levels allow
8 people to share the house without sacrificing privacy. The lovely
terrace with the grapes hanging overhead and the river below is truly
Paradise on earth. I wish I were there sipping a glass of wine right
now!
I cannot say enough about the kitchen. Much of our joy in France
is centered on food, especially cooking the wonderful things you find
only there. This kitchen is as functional as it is spacious. We did
all the cooking for our actual anniversary party, and it was such fun
and so easy in this lovely space. Unlike most rentals, there are enough
glasses, dishes, etc. for family and guests. I wish I had such a
kitchen in my own home.
Not only do the Zieglers have a wonderful
property, they are lovely people. Kitty was responsive and helpful
during our lengthy preparations and quick to answer any question.
Little did I know we would celebrate 50 years in Paradise! -

Los Angeles, Ca.Relaxing two weeks
Left on 11/12/2009 for a stay in May 2009
Set in a beautiful village in the Dordogne, this stone house (as all the houses
are in this village) has been fully renovated and has everything you may need
for a very comfortable and relaxing stay. Four bedrooms, two above the main
floor and two below, the main floor has a fully stocked kitchen, a nice living
room with television and best of all, a vine covered patio which looks out to the
Dordogne river and the castle at Castlenaud. We had wine and cheese almost
every afternoon and dinner several times on the patio - the most favorite part
of the trip for our children. The village of La Roque Gageac has a few good
restaurants and a very good bakery with some out of this world almond
croissants. This area has several "Les Plus Beaux Villages" to explore and many
chateaux within an easy drive. A perfect spot to have as your central location
in the Dordogne valley.
