LOVE the Cottages!
Manzanita Cottages have been a tradition for us for years. My husband, my daughter and my mother vacation in Laguna faithfully, and wouldn't stay anywhere else! It is the best of both worlds; it is private and quiet, yet all that comes with Laguna Beach is just a few blocks away.
We always stock the kitchen with groceries, as it is perfect for a relaxing breakfast before heading down to the beach.
The charm, the comfort, the peaceful environment... it is absolutely fantastic!

My husband and I traveled to Laguna Beach on short notice, and were so lucky to have been able to book this adorable place. We stayed in the Studio Apartment, which was perfect for the 2 nights we were there. It was private, nicely decorated, and had a well stocked small kitchen (although we didn't cook). We easily walked to town from Manzanita, or drove short distances to eat dinner or hike.
We will definitely stay here again, hopefully in one of the larger cottages.

We loved our stay at the cottages. They are cozy and comfortable and anything we needed was provided. The beach shortcut was a wonderful surprise! Can't wait to visit again - we want to try each of the adorable, 20's inspired cottages.

Two Nights in southern California comfort!
Loved everything about our stay - comfort, beauty, convenience, hummingbirds, affordability, uniqueness, access to town, peacefulness. Will always stay here and recommend!
Not having been to Laguna Beach for many years, I was surprised by how busy the town felt as I drove in on PCH from Crystal Cove. We located the Manzanita Cottages very easily and as soon as we opened the gate, I knew it was going to be a special place.
One day, as we sat in the adirondack chairs in the central courtyard, my wife commented that it felt as if the Green Cottage had been our vacation home for many years. The cottage was immaculately clean and the grounds were beautifully landscaped. It was quiet and peaceful, yet the shops and restaurants of Laguna Beach were only a few minutes walk away.
We met the manager Diane, another day and she kindly took us for an impromptu tour of the Blue and Red Cottages, relating the history of the property to us.
Since our daughter attends U.C. Irvine, we'll be back for more family get togethers in the future.
What a great find!
We har a 10 month boy and he loved playing on the grass and with the stones. Beautiful back garden to relax in the sun. 3 min to walk to center/beach and 5 min to Ralph's.

A Little Piece of Heaven!
I recently brought my sister and three of her friends to Manzanita Cottages for her birthday. We had the most special time in our private "enclave"! The property is so unique, lovely courtyard with wishing well, beautiful lower garden, quality amenities, so peaceful! I loved it so much I'm coming back to get married in the lower garden!! Diane is so helpful and friendly, couldn't ask for a more perfect getaway!
Fabulous cottage, well furnished and maintained.
We stayed in the green cottage and it was quaint and comfortable. This cottage has a private back patio with table for four. The interior is perfect with lots of extra touches...high quality linens, books and magazines for reading, a bowl of chocolates, water, coffee, etc. The beamed ceilings and French doors were really lovely. There is also a lower lawn with chaise lounges, chairs and a barbecue. I will definitely go back!
Bit of a hilly walk and would not work for someone with mobility issues, steep stairs and uneven paths.
The best of Laguna
I'm from Laguna, and this is my favorite place to stay there - it's like a getaway to home; it has the charm and intimacy of the old Laguna. I've stayed there with my wife and two daughters a few times, and just stayed in the cozy studio apartment for the first time last month. Diane is always welcoming, and it's always a pleasure to hang in the courtyard and run into guests, who are always beaming about the charm and character of the cottages, and how convenient it is to walk into town or to the beach. The best.
corona del mar
My daughter and I stayed for Christmas in the Blue Cottage, it was perfect! A soon as we entered the "gate" we walked right into our peaceful retreat. Obvious beauty, lovely fireplace, all the kitchen amenities you would need. But I have to say, the beds were the best! Oh and all the fresh air coming through all the windows, delightful! And a perfect little rustic garden in the back. Private, special place. We will be back. Thank you!
Very charming cottages - beautifully decorated - very comfortabl
We really enjoyed our stay at Manzanita Cottages of Laguna Beach, Ca. We stayed in the Red Cottage. Everything was very beautifully decorated, especially the tile work in the kitchen and bath. The location is great, not far from town and the beach, as well as great shopping.
Little Laguna Beach Heaven
Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed the Manzanita Cottages. We have now stayed in all five of them. The two December visits were remarkably different, for the traditional in-floor heating of the red cottage made it far more attractive than the oil filled electric heaters in the green cottage. Boy, we were really cold.
One of the best places to stay
The Manzanita Cottages of Laguna Beach were absolutely wonderful! The entire property had a 1940's feel. The grounds are very pleasant and provide for a high degree of privacy. The cottages were clean and instructions from the innkeepers were accurate and helpful.
Beautiful haven for some R & R
Loved the charm of the cottages and the lovely, quaint setting, just as much as I liked the closeness to the beach and town, just a short walk away. The beach supplies that were provided were very much appreciated. Diane was extra helpful and very attentive. It truly cozy hide-a-way, and I'd love to return sometime.
Great stay at Manzanita Cottages for a weekend away. Idyllic, comfortable and perfect for a romantic weekend. Ideal stay for those who prefer a boutique stay and want to go out to dine. Romantic cottage with everything you need, a big bed, plenty of closest space and a kitchen for coffee/tea and snacks. We loved the style of the cottage and would like to come back in Winter and make more use of the cozy space and the living area. We love Laguna beach and although there are hills, didnt mind at all the walk back up to the Cottage. The correspondence and booking process was efficient. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Wonderfully Romantic anniversary Celebration
Yes, theses cottages are as charming as they appear in the pictures. How wonderful it was to be able to experience a few days of nostalgia for a simpler time by staying in the Red Cottage.
The cottage was fully equipped and very clean. The whole experience was from initially making the reservation, to the time we reluctantly had to leave was just great.
We keep coming back..
This was our fifth or sixth stay at The Cottages. Beautiful property perfectly maintained, lush landscaping and ultimate location. We walk to the beach and we walk to the village. Can't say enough about this property except to add that Diane is the perfect property manager. No stone left unturned. Best vacation ever.
What a lovely place to be!
We spent two days in the Yellow Cottage and found everything so nicely prepared! The cottage was very clean and well equipped and also our seven years old daughter enjoyed the the days there a lot.
We love to visit this cosy place again with friends!
The only thing which i thought it would be nice to have is a table down in the garden for outside lunches or dinners. Especially as there is already a well equipped Weber Grill. Read more

Thank you for your thoughtful review. We agree with the idea of having a table in the garden for outside meals. It's on our "to do" list, but thanks for giving us a nudge.
Provided excellent personal service with reservation, amenities and accommodating my family needs during our stay. Location was quiet, away from the noise of the beach area, yet a short walking to the main beach (depending) on your stamina. We'll rate the bed a+ and the living room couch was comfortable enough for three nights. However, I would not recommend the cottages for anyone with physical disabilities as ramps are not available. So happy to know you had a great time. Thank you for taking a moment and submitting a review. We agree about the challenge for people with disabilities which is why we indicate on our website that there are twenty steps down into the property from street level.

Perfectly beautiful and unique California experience!
Why not stay at the beach? Because you can slip away to a hidden gem of a cottage and find a bit of nirvana after you've been to the beach. We hiked the beach, ate over looking the beach, listened to live music above the beach but then we walked up the hill and within minutes were in a private, quiet gorgeous setting. A perfect hideaway in a storybook cottage, perfectly appointed, lovely art throughout and masses of flowers all around us. We loved the floor to ceiling windows and light spilling in from every direction. Thank you, Diane, for attending to everything so thoughtfully! Read more

We love it when people understand the value of getting away from the noise and congestion at the beach and find peace and quiet in our garden compound just a few blocks away. Thank you for your review!
My husband and I have been visiting Laguna Beach for five years. We love the Manzanita Cottages. We have stayed there with family and alone and always enjoy the comfortable beds, the quiet neighborhood, the lovely gardens and the informal flavor of the cottages. Near to the beach, galleries, restaurants, and shopping, but out of the busy center of town, the location is great. The management is as helpful and friendly as can be.
Charming beyond words!
Like something out of a novel. We stayed in the red door cottage. Extremely clean and complete with all we could possibly need. Early mornings i would sit and read in the living room. With all the windows open, hummingbirds, butterflies and lush flowers were my view. For us it was a weekend to decompress. Looking forward to trying it in cold weather with the fireplace!
Only negative for us was the other 3 cottages were occupied with a 3 generation family. They took over the entire outdoor space. Kids were loud even very early in the morning. Little faces right against our windows. It was wonderful for them, not so much for us. We were not able to enjoy the outdoor space. Next time I know to check who else will be there.
Manzanita Cottages are picture perfect!
My sister and I took our very elderly mother to stay at the Yellow Cottage in Laguna Beach, our favorite place in the world. It was just as advertised, short walk to the beach, near town, and so pretty itself that being there was a treat. We had a memorable time, and would definitely return, and recommend to others. charming and cozy
We loved our stay at the Manzanita cottages. We were a party of 4 and stayed at the yellow and blue cottages. The cottages are a true gem; beautifully decorated, full of charm, and beautifully landscaped.
It is very quiet, with lovely outdoors area to sit and relax. I would highly recommend the Manzanita cottages. Read more

Wonderful, charming cottage in a great location and family friendly. We loved our stay and it was the perfect relaxing getaway after a week in anaheim.

A cozy and comfortable retreat...
We spent five special nights in the Manzanita Cottages studio and would definitely return. The bed is comfortable, the decor very appealing, and the location cannot be beat. Diane, the manager, was welcoming and responsive. Thank you so much.

These cottages, were clean, absolutely charming and beautiful! Great stay, very peaceful.
most wonderful family getaway
This is one of the best kept secrets in Laguna. I can't believe how perfect it is for a family reunion. The cottages are comfortable and have everything you could need. The grounds are spacious and perfect for family picnics. And the location in Laguna could not be more perfect. I cant recommend Manzanita Cottages highly enough.

Tranquil haven in the middle of Laguna Beach
The Yellow cottage is beautiful, set within a small courtyard garden. It was like walking into Hobbit-world! It was well equipped with everything we needed to get us started, tea/coffee etc. On top of that, in the store room there was everything we needed for our picnics on the beach. The laundry room was a great help too, again, everything we needed. You really couldn't ask for anything more - we had a brilliant time and would definately go back again - anytime!
Absolutely amazing, more than what we could have hoped for.
We live in the UK and every year we visit our son and family in Santa ana, Ca. We love Laguna Beach and have stayed there twice before.
This year we chose Manzanita Cottages (Green Cottage), as we thought the cottages looked so special. The Green Cottage was fantastic, especially as it had decking with table and chairs at the back. So peaceful and cosy with plenty of room and so close to the shops and beach.
Our 4 year old grand daughter had a sleepover and loved the secret garden.
The decor was cosy and so interesting. Bed and bedding was so comfortable and so was the settee. There is a fireplace if the weather turns cold, but we did not need this, but did notice the glow from another cottage!
Will definitely come back again! Read more

Best off the beaten path place to stay in Laguna Beach!
Mom and sisters discovered Manzanita Cottages while searching the web for a place to celebrate the last of 5 sisters to turn the big 50! We quickly zeroed in on Manzanita Cottages! We could not have chosen a better place for our stay in Laguna Beach! Off the beaten path, yet walking distance to the beach and downtown. The quaint cottages are adorable and super, duper clean. The garden was a great place to relax and mingle between beach walks and shopping stints. Though we had dinner reservations at highly recommended spots, two of the nights we ordered take out and ate in the garden! I would highly recommend staying at Manzanita Cottages. The owner and staff made our planning and stay fun and festive~ Jayne from Paso Robles, Ca

lovely and private
We had a lovely time. The cottage was very clean which is important. It was quiet which surprised me since the other cottages were rented. Two criticisms: 1) No shampoo in the bathroom 2) No decaf coffee just regular. I know those are minor but we had to go looking for a market.

A Jewel in Laguna Beach
We have visited Laguna Beach for many, many years. The Manzanitas Cottages are a little hidden jewel. The location is superb for walking to the beach or town, without being in the middle of the week-end crowds. It is private and the four cottages now sparkle. They are a delightful getaway. Read more

Paradise in Paradise!!
Thank you so much for your hospitality during our recent visit to Laguna Beach! The Manzanita Cottages are truly an oasis!! We came for a rejuvinating weekend and really enjoyed ourselves - due in part to the beautiful accomodations! Being close enough to everything to walk, yet far enough off the beaten track to be able to relax away from the tourists! Just what we needed!! Thank you! Already planning a return visit with friends!

A cozy, comfortable quiet retreat that relaxed and refreshed bot
The stairs were a bit of a challenge for my wife, who uses a cane. We really enjoyed the quiet secluded location, and the close proximity to all the great stores, restaurants and special charm of Laguna Beach. Great historical link to Hollywood, as well.
We have been coming to Laguna for 20 years and staying at a hotel in town. This year, our usual place was under rennovation so we stumbled across Manzanita Cottages. Although it was not on the beach, it was very close walking distance to the beach and all the downtown places we love. We stayed in the Green Cottage and it was perfect ! Clean, quiet, and romantic. We will definately be back.
Everything we thought it would be...and more!
We met Diane as we were settling into the Green Cottage and she explained how everything worked at the cottages..from the laundry room and beach amenities...to the shortcut through the back gate to reach the beach. I saw these cottages on the web 12 years ago and I told myself I was going to get here sometime...so I booked last November, retired this april and told my beauette to take at least 2 weeks off because we're heading to the Manzanita Cottages in Laguna Beach. From the archway leading down to the courtyard to the coziness of the rooms, we had one of our best, laid-back vacations ever! Thanks to Diane who was just wonderful and shared some of her favorite eateries with us. We will be back...sooner rather than later.
comfort and quiet with lovely surroundings
the cottage was just fine for a week visit.
the only problem was the steep steps at the
Charming and peaceful setting
Everything about the cottages was finished in such detail I could have moved right in. The gardens were so delightful. The many sitting areas were inviting to sit down and read or just enjoy a beverage and watch the butterflies and hummingbirds. The many windows opened up to lovely viewing areas. The only negative was the heat. It is an unusually hot summer and it was hard to sleep without air conditioning. I think this would be a rare problem. We did find a fan in the closet and it helped somewhat. The grandchildren were thrilled to find boogie boards, chairs, and sand toys, and we were happy to find umbrellas to take to Main Beach. Great visit to one of our favorite places. Read more

It was unusually hot indeed! It's not unusual for it to heat up during the last few weeks in August but it almost always cools off in the summer. It was quite rare to be that warm at night.
We're so glad you enjoyed your stay in spite of the warm temps. And we love the fact that your grandkids took advantage of our complimentary beach equipment. Please come back and visit us again sometime!

Amazing vacation getaway!
Working with Diane was great. She was very responsive to our requests, both by phone and email during our stay. We stayed in the yellow cottage for a week and really enjoyed having the amenities of a kitchen and additional living space that you don't get with a hotel. So glad we stayed here, because we had access to beach chairs, umbrellas and beach towels we could use for our trips to beach.
We loved the patio just outside the bedroom where we were able to enjoy the evening privately. The cottages are very quiet and are positioned away from busy streets and foot traffic, so it made for a very relaxing getaway.
We would highly recommend the cottages for couples and families. Great atmosphere and can't wait to come back!
Our stay in the Red Cottage couldn't have been more perfect. From the minute you enter the cottages, you begin to feel relaxed and ready to enjoy your vacation. The cottage itself was very quaint and well appointed and we especially enjoyed having a full refrigerator and stovetop so we could make our own meals. The courtyard and gardens were beautifully maintained and a great place to enjoy a Laguna Beach evening. The beach and Main Beach shops and restaurants were all within walking distance which was very convenient. Can't wait to go back again - we will never stay anywhere else in Laguna!
Absolutely First Class!
Our stay in the Red Cottage met our needs perfectly. Everything was wonderful down to the fresh flowers and chocolate. Very quiet and away from the noise down on Hwy 101. We will definitely be back for my next High School reunion in Newport Beach and will stay again in the Red Cottage. Read more

A peaceful get-away
Opening the gate of Manzanita Cottages instantly transports you to your most beautiful fantasy of a quaint village in Spain. (Or, for you sci-fi fans, the shire in Lord of the Rings) It surpassed my expectations with it's tranquility; I felt like I had truly unplugged and gotten away from the hustle of life.
Laguna is our absolute favorite city to visit. We have stayed in many of the 5 star resorts and hotels, but our next visit we will be re-booking at Manzanita Cottages.
How soon can we come back!?!?
I rented the Green cottage for myself, my 3 daughters and my mom for a girls getaway. We had looked at several places online and my girls made the final decision to stay at the Cottages. They were so pleased from the moment we walked into the courtyard and they saw the perfectly manicured lawn with the wishing well in the middle. The cottages are small, but for only us girls it was perfect. We did bring an air mattress to set up at night. We all loved that the hinges, doorhandles and fixtures are original to the house (1927). We loved having our own patio for meals and a "secret" entrance to the property from the HS parking lot. There is a whole garage of beach equipment (chairs, umbrellas, coolers, boogie boards, etc.) for use by the renters so we didn't have to haul all of that with us. The laundry room is huge and was well equiped. The Cottages are a quick walk down the hill to Main beach and PCH is also right down the hill for shopping and a meal out. We were also within walking distance to the "Pageant of the Masters" - a must see experience. Laguna Beach has a free trolley during the summer months which will take you all the way down to the Ritz and all the was up Laguna Canyon for the art festivals. All in all we had a wonderful week. The girls want to rent all 4 cottages next time for an all-girls cousin week! Read more

The cottages are definitely a great place for a girls getaway. So glad you and your girls enjoyed your experience. We chuckled when we read you compliments about the door hardware--that's got to be a first! It really important to us when we did the initial renovation 12 years ago that we did everything we could to preserve those unique features of this treasured property, so thank you for noticing that! Look forward to having you return!

Perfect Get away
Staying at the Manzanita Cottages in Laguna was perfect location for our girls weekend! I would like come back with my entire family and rent out every cottage for a few days.
We were very close, with in walking distance, to the main strip, restaurants and beach, but far enough away to enjoy peace and quiet at night. It is also nice to be able to walk through the neighbor and see the large beach homes. My girlfriends and I were able to use the garden to do yoga in the morning.
The Spanish style cottages and manicured garden adds to the overall charm. It really feels like a secret hideout. Our cottages was clean and comfortable. The shower pressure was great and warm water for all four of us to shower. It was wonderful to have beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, cooler, and a parking spot available to us.
I would definitely come back. Read more

Best in Laguna Beach
My wife and I just returned from another amazing stay at the Manzanita Cottages. We visited to celebrate our third wedding anniversary and are never disappointed by the great communication and high level of customer service by Diane the property manager and the owner. Thank you to the entire Manzanita Cottages Team!

Comfortable cottage in gorgeous garden!
We returned home so rested and relaxed after our stay at Manzanita Cottages. A huge plus was that the bed was really comfortable. We loved being able to sit outside on the lawns beside our cottage and enjoy the views of the gorgeous garden. It is a truly charming and special place. We got to tour the four cottages and they are all lovely.
The location is so convenient. We could walk down the hill to dinner in the town. There are so many restaurants to choose from!
We have such good memories of our time at the cottages. They were a huge part of our stay in Laguna Beach and we look forward to trying out another cottage on our next visit!

What a treat!
We stayed 3 nights with our family of 4 recently for my husband's Birthday. The cottages are a perfect home away from home and so much better than a hotel. Our girls (6 and 9) enjoyed the grounds while my husband and I relaxed with a glass of wine. We would love to stay longer next time. Read more

Delightful, charming cottages tucked away but w/in walking dista
I couldn't have picked a better place to stay for a weekend getaway. The cottages and gardens are so much nicer than a typical hotel. You feel like you are at home because it's really a little house, complete with kitchenette, living room, and separate bedroom. They had everything we needed in the cottage too, including dishes, wine glasses, cork screw, and even a power adapter for our laptop.
But it was more interesting than being at home. The wood floors, ceiling beams, colorful tile, and charming fireplace made you feel like you were in another time and place. The flowers in the garden were very fragrant at night too.
We also appreciated that it was tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, but within walking distance to the shops and restaurants. We look forward to staying again. Read more

We love it when guests totally get what we're about and especially the difference between staying at our cottages rather than a hotel. It's a totally different way to enjoy Laguna Beach. There's nothing more special than for us to read feedback such as "You feel like you are at home..." That's our goal!
First off I want to Thank Diane for her generosity and kindness. Diane was an a+++ hostess. I was fortunate enough to stay here for mothers day weekend 2012. The Manzanita Cottages, are beautiful, and so comfortable. Diane makes sure you feel completely at home, and the cottages are kept spotless. The grounds are retreat like and so relaxing, you are close enough to walk to the beach or get a bite to eat. I loved, loved my time there and look forward to staying there again. Thank you Diane for treating your guests like family.

Charming! Perfect wedding weekend experience
I stayed in the Red Cottage at Manzanita Cottages the night before my wedding and with my husband on my wedding night. I spent nearly the entire wedding day there, spending time with family, getting ready to go and taking pictures, and the word I heard most all day from everyone - from my mom to the photographer to the hair & makeup gal - was charming!! Everyone was immediately and completely in love with the Red Cottage and how beautiful and tranquil it was. And as tired as we were after the wedding my husband loved it too. Hopefully we can come back again for future anniversary getaways!
Only downside is that the bathroom is accessed via master bedroom, so any guest sleeping on the sofa bed has to cross through the bedroom to use the bathroom. Not a problem for couples, though!

Our wedding and honeymoon cottage
We were married on the lower garden area and spent our honeymoon in the yellow cottage. What a romantic place to be wed. A short walk to the beach and a nice quiet place to relax. We have agreed that we will be back every year to celebrate our anniversary. Diane the manager, was a great help and kept the whole place in immaculate shape. Joked with her about taking over when she retires... Love Laguna Beach and the manzanita cottages..
A wonderful place to get away!
What a wonderful gem nestled in the hills above Laguna Beach. The cottage was quaint, cozy and everything we expected - a quiet, relaxing get-away. Diane the manager was very personable and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We hope to return again soon!!!
Storybook Cottage in a Storybook Town!
If you want a charming cottage within a short distance to Laguna's scenic walking town, Manzanita is a perfect choice! Small but functional, each cottage is well equipped throughout, with fireplaces, french doors, patios and great beds. In a nice neighborhood, the cottages are well cared for and the grounds are professionally maintained. Laguna Beach is a special place, and Manzanita was a perfect choice to enjoy the area, its beautiful beaches and great restaurants. We'll be back!
The Studio Suite - not so good
This is a charming property and I would definitely consider renting one of the cottages. Location is good. We were given the Studio and assured it is charming too. When we first went in - it looked charming but overall - our stay was disappointing. The room was cold although there are space heaters that we eventually used. Not my favourite choice when you're paying good money for accommodation. The kitchen doors opened onto a moss covered brick and dirt area where there were 2 chairs. No one would sit out there for any reason I can think of. The towels by day 3 were too damp to re-use and there is not even a towel change service. The stair between the living area and bed area is a little challenging when you go to the fridge first thing in the morning (watch that first step!). The bed was comfortable, though. Given the other cottages - I would give the Studio a pass. Read more

How disappointing to learn of their unhappy experience only after these guests departed. Our manager makes a concerted effort to ensure all our guests have what they need including replacing damp towels (not an uncommon problem in an ocean climate).
The patio outside the kitchen doors is small and exists largely to allow more natural light into the eating area. For this reason we don't advertise that the apartment has a fully functioning patio. We've never had anyone complain about how the heat was provided--people are simply happy to have a workable heater.
We've had thousands of guests in the studio over the past 12 years and we've never had issues of this nature. So we're a bit surprised to read these comments. But we value these comments and will strive to do a better job of helping our apartment guests enjoy their stay.
Most excellent hideaway...
What a great place to stay for a visit to O.C. and Laguna Beach in particular. Really private and a stone's throw from the all that L.B. has to offer to beachcombers and restaurant goers. Very accommodating staff and really cute bungalows. Our new home away from home in So. Cal.
perfectly @ home
the cottage was just the right size and provided everything we needed.
Charm with a capital 'C'!
"Wow" was our feeling from the moment we arrived and stepped through the gates of the Manzanita Cottages. Without gushing too much I'll just say the bungalow-cottage experience at this really fairy tale garden escape was a step back in time and completely met our expectations. The manangement took the time for little extra touches that made our weekend so nice. Experience it yourself.. A great romantic getaway.

So wonderful there are no words to do it justice!
This is a wonderful little place. Everything was so clean and so welcoming. Chocolates, water in the fridge and coffees/hot chocolates to greet you. The pictures do not do it justice. Little garden walkways that are perfectly manicured, sweet little wishing well. Lots of little yard areas to sit and visit and relax. A five minute walk to down town/beach. So charmingly decorated - it just felt like home for my 7 day stay while at a seminar. Can't beat the price! Todd and Dianne were wonderful too. Just can't say enough - u gotta stay there!

So good...we'd like to keep it a secret!
Cozy, private, historic, charming, well-kept, a gem! We spent a great weekend here and can't wait to find an excuse to return. As an architect - I really appreciated the loving restoration work that was accomplished - really well done. The working fireplace was "the cherry-on-top". Why would anyone stay in a hotel in Laguna Beach when they could settle in for a few days here and live like a local? A real treat!
The place is great. Very historic. Doesn't provide amenities I would expect for 195 per night. I would expect housekeeping and amentities such as soap bars (daily) shampoo, etc. No towel service or pick up service. The show had mold and the bath sink dripped. The coffee dispenser is a Kruge but only had two cups of coffer for two day. Now what do I do? I went to Whole Foods, but they don't carry the special containers, so...no coffee for three days. Would I revisit? No way. I will stay on the beach for the same price and get a much better experience. Read more

First of all, let me say that we LOVE feedback and always appreciate guests comments. These particular comments help us understand that we need to help prospective guests understand the difference between the services normally provided at vacation rental lodging and hotel services. We strive to provide services consistent with standard vacation rental services so we don't provide daily linen changes. HOWEVER, we let all our guests know that fresh linens are available if they let us know they'd like a refresh. We're sorry that this guest didn't give us a chance to meet that expectation.
We provide fresh bars of soap and encourage guests to let us know if they need replacements.
The discoloration in the shower grout is not mold. Our professional cleaning service scours all the bathroom fixtures very carefully. There is some discoloration in this particular shower and we are working with grout experts to find the appropriate whitening compound.
We recently upgraded our coffer service to the Keurig coffee makers and our guests tell us that they love it. We're sorry this guest didn't let us know he needed additional supplies.

Manzanita Cottages is one of those gems that you want the world to know about but at the same time don't want to share for fear that you may never be able to get another booking! We discovered this place 10 years ago where we hosted a 50th b-day party. The grounds provided the perfect venue; the cottages the perfect retreat at the end of the day. The proximity (walking distance) to the beach and downtown sites is a huge treat. The price??? - you won't find a better deal. But pleeez keep this mum. We want to be able to book another getaway.

Best Place to Stay in Southern California
My wife and I have been coming to Manzanita Cottages for three years. We have enjoyed every moment and even spent our honeymoon in the Green Cottage. The new manager, Diane, is wonderful and is working hard to improve an already amazing property.
You will not be disappointed and before you know it you will be looking forward to the next time you walk through those old wooden gates.
This has been a tough year for me, so I decided to take a mini retreat. This property was totally awesome. It was so peaceful and quiet the days I stayed. And it is quite remarkable that everything that a person needs is already waiting for your arrival. Great!!!

Beautiful, peaceful respite
These are lovely cottages surrounded by gardens. Walking distance to town and many good restaurants. Immaculately clean and very quiet. We slept like babies.
Even watched a pod of dolphins at the ocean - great!!
Lovely cottage, superb location!
The cottages are great in terms of location, the setting (great garden area), and the overall value. This was our second visit and we will definitely return. Great amenities overall, especially the access to beach towels and supplies!
Only one downside - we stayed a week and could have used one more roll of toilet paper, but were told this was not something supplied. Not a big deal, but inconvenient for us to go to the store again as we bought supplies on day one. I should have thought about getting some with our groceries, but did not. Also bit noisy one night with a loud party group, but manager followed up immediately and took care to make sure they were not invited back and to take care of us. A fantastic place to stay in a great beach town! Read more

Sorry about the not supplying toilet paper issue--a policy left over from an overly cost-conscious manager (who's no longer with us). We want our guests to be fully delighted with all aspects of their stay, so the unlimited TP policy is back!
We stayed 6 nights in the yellow cottage. The cottage was just perfect for the 4 of us with the children sleeping in the roll-out couch. Cosy & qaint - and a true "home away from home" - just what we needed after staying in variuos hotels 2 weeks prior to our arrival. Enjoyed to barbecue and cook for ourselves.
Quaint and enjoyable
Close enough to walk to town...we were there to enjoy the Sawdust Festival and Pageant of the Masters...which were both fabulous. Enjoyed being able to grill and have convenience of eating at "home". Would love to rent all 4 for all my friends! ;)

Charming cottage getaway
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs would have loved this
compound of quaint cottages. Gone are the cold trappings of a pretentious hotel.
The place reminds me of Beachwood Canyon in
But, what impressed me most was the respect for
historical 1920's architecture and style. That's rare.
And they love dogs at Manzanita Cottages.
My Scottie Winston had a great time.
A bowl of water was waiting for him outside the
door when we arrived.
Will definitely return.
Our friends had stayed here for their anniversary last year and when we first walked through the gates to see the cottages in January, we decided to join them this year. To celebrate their anniversary as well as another and 3 birthdays. The pictures on the web-site are beautiful but don't quite capture the warmth and welcome you feel when you are actually here. Our e-mails were answered promptly and Todd really went the extra mile when I had to change the length of my stay. We stayed in the studio which was closer to my budget while our friends were in the Red and Yellow cottages. We opened the door to fresh flowers, candy, and instructions for reaching the manager if we needed anything. It was quite comfortable and within a short walk of the beach, shopping, and the three art fairs. There are coolers, beach items, and extra towels all readily available as well as a laundry room for those unexpected falls in the ocean. We used the kitchens extensively but a downside is that the single grill is first come first served and isn't conveniently located. A lot of our time was spent in the courtyard near the wishing well, which was much more comfortable for our group than the separate patios. The cottages are perfect for those that don't want to spend every waking moment on the beach, or don't want to go out to eat every meal. I hope we can come for a visit again soon.

My husband and I wanted a dog-friendly place that felt like home and the Green Cottage was perfect. The inside was cozy & clean, the bathroom sparkled, and the enclosed patio spacious and sunny. We especially liked the rear yard. Since we enjoy walking, the location was ideal--near downtown and the beach, and a short drive to hiking trails in the hills.
A time to relax with family and dogs
the cottage was clean on arrival but it and the overall property is a bit run down. We had a window plate fall out of the side door during our stay and the paint was cracked and peeling, maybe that should be expected given that dogs are allowed. the grounds are also in need of upgrade with many plants looking beyond their time with need of more filler vegetation. In the heat of the forth of July weekend the lack of air conditioning forces the cottage windows to be left open for any hope of coming into a cool space upon return form the beach subjecting belongings to be unsecure. For the price of the stay daily linen service should be a must. Washing linens yourself is an unwanted chore for vacation especially when the wash facility is $3.00 per load. The lack of toilet paper, paper towels and garbage bags is irritating at best after the first couple days. The overall cottage stay was easy enough with no hassle from the management. It was a bit futher to the beach than advertised but convinient considering the parking accoadations with access to the public parking lot to the back of the property. Read more

We are so terribly disappointed to find out about these issues by reading the guest review on FlipKey. Our manager is on site daily to check in with guests and make sure they are comfortable and have what they need. These guests never indicated that they had any issues or that they needed additional supplies.
We made special allowances to accommodate this party's request for late check out. They exceeded the extra time which pushed our cleaning schedule back further into the day.
With regard to the comments about our gardens, our property was recently featured in a popular blog about Laguna Beach gardens: http://lagunadirt.blogspot.com/2011/06/manzanita-cottages-and-gardens.html
We encourage all guests to let us know what we can do to help them enjoy their stay. We're sorry these guests didn't give us a chance to totally delight them!
Felt like home
My stay in the green cottage exceeded my expectations as did the entire property. The cottage was decorated so cute, I felt like I was staying in a page in the Pottery Barn catalog. Kitchen was well stocked with tools and large fridge, and everything was very clean. Nice towels and linens also. Great location, and easy to find. Walking down the stairs into the courtyard with wishing well, my daughters (10 & 6) said it looked like a fairy tale. Very nice gardens and grassy areas to play and relax. This was so refreshing vs a hotel room which are stuffy and univiting sometimes. This was warm, welcoming and felt like home. I will stay again.

Charming cottages, lovingly cared for
The cottages are just delightful. The path between them is filled with fragrant flowers (really, I'm not exagerating) and each cottage is simply charming (I got a tour before I left). I can't say enough good things. They were built in the '30s; staying here has kind of a fantasy feel to it, with hardwood floors, a fireplace, and large bedrooms. I loved my studio apartment, which was small but perfect for my friend and I. Walking distance to the beach and downtown. Loved it!!!

I am a local SoCal resident and have spent a lot of time in Laguna. I took a chance after seeing this place to stay the weekend in Laguna and let me tell you...This place, service, and accommodations were completely overflowing beyond expectations!! You must must must sneak away to this place. Private, Comfortable, Romantic, and Encompassing. I was not expecting anything like this and am so thrilled that this place was discovered. Honestly, I was going to stay in a hotel but this place completely blows away a hotel. It was a real vacation of a place not to mention the location from the beach and downtown Laguna. I booked the room and spoke to the gentleman on the phone (Todd) and he was extremely helpful and humbly underplayed what a terrific place this was. He certainly over delivered bcuz like I said this place is fantastic!!! Those of you looking to get away to a beachy place...I promise you won't go wrong with the Manzanita Cottages. Certainly an amazing bargain deal for its location and caliber of a place! You would think I was paid for this review but honestly...this place was such a gift for my well being that folks deserve to know about it. The check in process was painless, simple and the woman who assisted was kind. You would think that these folks are family relatives and they make you feel that way!! Please take the time and enjoy this truly hidden treasure in Laguna. Thanks to both of you for your amazing customer service and beautiful rental!! I'll certainly be back!!!
Very relaxing weekend
We stayed in the Yellow Cottage and it was very clean and nicely decorated. We barbequed one night and found the kitchen to be well supplied. It is just a short walk downhill to the Village.

We had a terrific stay at the Manzanita cottages. The cottage was cute, very clean and well equipped. It is a short walk to downtown. Totally charming and a lovely way to enjoy Laguna Beach.

It is just beautiful, spotless, location is fantastic. You cannot beat these cottages for value and they are just adorable! Hated to leave! I would highly recommend these cottages.

Cute 30's style cottages were very pleasant
Pleasantly surprised to find this in the city, I would describe the property as a garden like spot with really neat 1930's cottages. Floor to ceiling windows look out on the beautiful landscaping that someone spent years cultivating. Just magical.
family of three that had a fun seaside weekend
relaxing cottage stay
The Manzanita Blue Cottage was a welcome change to the typical hotel stay. Charming vintage details to appreciate here and there. Clean and well maintained considering the age. Great location; 5-10 minute walk to village & groceries. Historical homes to look at along the way. Just a bit further to venture to the beach. Kitchen is well enough equipped to cook in if you would like a "home away from home" kind of stay. No oven so be prepared for stovetop or toaster oven cooking only as well as doing dishes by hand. Remember that vintage feel comes with a small price. However, the shower temp and pressure was perfect. Comfy king bed, sofabed better for just one. Tv with DVD player in living room. Our family will be returning again when we desire a cozier alternative to a hotel. The yellow and red cottages have a more private patio than the green and blue cottages. Friendly and smooth check-in and check-out with Diane the manager. Lastly, there are steep steps at main entrance so not ideal with strollers or those who are elderly. There is an alternative rear entrance more accessible. Keep in mind walk to town includes hill and street parking is difficult if you move car.
Loved the cottage and the attention to detail. Close walk to beach & restaurants... Very quiet & relaxing.

Hidden Gem Tucked away for a Genuine Retreat Experience
We loved our stay at Manzanita Cottages. After you walk through the gates off the street, an oasis of a secret garden embraces you. The garden is surrounded by darling cottages. Our stay was quiet and fabulous. The cottages and grounds were immaculate. All the amenities you could want or need for your stay are provided as well as little "starter kit" for bathroom (t.p., coffee/hot chocolate for kitchen, etc). Big windows open up onto the garden for fresh afternoon breezes and the cottage's decor is charming and cozy. We loved our private patio off the master bedroom, loved the amazingly comfortable king sized bed, watching television and playing games in front of the fire in the evening. There is a main "yard" down the path guests can share with a provided grill and chaise lounges and the cottages are within walking distance to town. But why leave your cottage? This is the ideal retreat. Perfect for romantic getaways,or perhaps family reunions. We will definitely be back.
