My wife and I really enjoyed the Retreat. Our unit (more like a stand-alone mini-house) was spacious and had quality fixtures, a nice fire pit, gas grill, and was only steps from the beach. Laguna has some great restaurants but our personal kitchen area was so nice we ended up cooking most of our own meals (saving likely $100 per day on food -- that adds up quickly over a week-long stay). In addition to our spacious outdoor eating area, there is a large communal space with several dinner tables right next to the unit. So we had a number of dinners watching the sun set and the surfers catching the last waves.
The staff was also super friendly and attentive. I got to know the woman running the front desk and she got right on any request and was legitimately excited to discuss things to do in town. She was very customer service oriented and clearly loves her job.
They also provided several beach amenities that made the trip more enjoyable, including: beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, and large towels. Plus, they had great deals with local businesses (restaurants, rental shops, etc). We got a 2 for 1 deal on an amazing whale watching tour and ended up seeing a Blue Whale up close and personal.
As for location, it's right south of downtown (a few blocks at most), so you are a stones throw from the action but far enough away from the core so nights are quiet.
Overall, I would highly recommend staying here over the moderate to nice hotels in town. You end up paying the same amount and get much, much more and have the privacy and flexibility you expect from the price tag (that you typically do not get from large hotels).

We stay at the beautiful retreat each year. The accommodations, fine finishes, granite countertops, Tv's in ever room, beautiful ocean view, breeze and patios Where we can BBQ makes it a wonderful place for a couple of nights or long term. The location is in the heart of the town and main beach. All the little shops, restaurants, art galleries are within walking distance. You won't need your car at all once you arrive. The Retreat hosted a delicious BBQ for the guests and was wonderful! They arrange for yoga, gym membership while visiting, many coupons for great restaurants and private parking any issue that came up was handled by the friendly manager, Maureen. A handyman, Robert, Seemed to always be available when needed. You will love it!

The best place I have ever stayed! The best part was waking up every morning to the sound, smell and sight of the ocean. The staff was very courteous and welcoming. I will defiantly put this on my list of places to stay in California without a doubt!

This was our second stay and the retreat and it just gets better and better. The location is ideal, the views spectacular and the service superb. All of the staff goes to the extreme to be accommodating, helpful and does everything they can to make your stay perfect. We love Laguna and we really love the Retreat.

The Retreat in Laguna is not only a fabulous five star ocean front villa, it is a complete vacation experience! With its luxurious Italian style, this quaint, cliffside villa is every persons dream for the perfect beach getaway. The Retreat In Laguna is a hidden gem among the oceanfront cliffside of the ever popular and artsy town of Laguna Beach. With direct beach access, and amazing ocean views, the waves will lull you into relaxation.
The 1 bedroom villa offers everything you need to feel right at home. Every amenity has been thought through. Even beach towels, chairs, toys and umbrellas are provided for your comfort and fun in the sand! The kitchen is absolutely stunning and fully equipped for any cooking during your stay. The Retreat offers free laundry facilities as well. The common grounds on the property are absolutely stunning and everything is perfectly kept! With the Retreats central location, you can literally walk to most anywhere in Laguna!
The staff at the Retreat is second to none! They made us feel like family from the moment we stepped onto the property! We were actually sad to say goodbye.
The evenings were complete with the cool ocean breeze as we sat in front of our private stone fire pit while listening to the waves crashing on the beach. We were surrounded by the most beautiful rose garden as we soaked up the sun on our private patio.
Not only is the villa a fabulous beach getaway, but The Retreat provides an entire vacation experience! From In-Villa Massages and Spa Treatments to Whale Watching Tours, Paddle Board Surfing, Fine Dining, Tide Tours, Yoga Classes, Art Festivals and more! Every care was taken to make sure that we experienced the absolute best that Laguna Beach has to offer! The staff at the Retreat was able to set up absolutely anything we wanted to do!

There was constant jack hammering/concerte sawing goimg om right next door and made Thursday and Friday stay unbearable, impossible to enjoy stay.

Construction occurs from time to time, the construction is over and we offered several gifts to the customer as an apology, but we have no control over short term construction that the city has approved. The customer did not disagree that The Retreat is the most beautiful place in Laguna!

A very good value for the area. For example by comparison effectively the same price as two rooms at the Holiday Inn Laguna Beach for a boutique individual suite that sleeps four, is much closer to the beach and a very short walk to the galleries and shops in town.

Our experience here at the Retreat was truly 5 star. Jason, the manager, was really genuine and helpful. The office closes in the afternoon and we arrived around 9pm. He stopped by to say hi and make sure we got in safe which was really nice. The location is awesome and walking distance to everything. Our room was really nice. It was clean and you could tell there was a lot of love that went into every detail of the design of this property. Luxurious but so functional you could tell a lot of thought went into design. We stayed for 3 nights and it went by so fast because we simply lost track of time bc we had so much fun. We'll definitely be back whenever we want to stay in laguna!

My boyfriend and I had such a peaceful and relaxing visit at your Retreat!! It was simply the best! The service was spot on and very friendly! Great location to stroll around Laguna. Beautiful ocean view and accomodations. We slept so comfortably in the luxurious bedding! We are looking forward to our return!! Thank you again!!

Eileen from arvada, Colorado: We stayed at the Retreat for a week while in Laguna Beach for my mother's memorial service. Staying in these beautiful, peaceful surroundings was so healing for us and it provided us with time to relax, revel at the sunsets from the deck, sit around our private patio firepit, be lulled to sleep at night by the sound of the waves... while being treated with the utmost in care by the staff. The villa was equipped with everything and more than needed, including on site laundry facilities. All we had to do was ask the friendly and accomodating staff if we had questions or needed anything. We were treated to a welcoming package that included an in room massage and gift card for the nearby fantastic Beach House restaurant. We will be back each and every time that we visit Laguna Beach to check on my mother's property. It truly became our home for the week at a time when we needed it the most. We would highly recommend it to others. The view is incredible, especially at sunset!!
