Additional Location Information
Some 2000 years ago, long before Laguna Beach became one of the most desirable resorts on the California coast, ancient Indian tribes made this land home. Lured by temperate weather and the rich coastal strip, these first residents inhabited the canyon formations directly east of what is now Main Beach. They named the area "Lagonas", their word for lakes, after two fresh water lagoons that decorated the canyon. The area remained known as Lagonas until 1904, when it was officially renamed Laguna Beach.
Bordering on the Pacific Ocean, with sandy beaches, towering bluffs, rolling hills and majestic canyons, Laguna Beach has long attracted artists inspired by the sea. It was probably inevitable that it would eventually become known as an "artist colony". The interest of local artists in capturing the shifting California colors along the bays and cliffs produced a unique style that is now labeled "California Impressionism". A by-product is the community's many art galleries which now dot the town.
It wasn't long after artists began flocking to Laguna Beach that its beauty was discovered by Hollywood's film makers. They found Laguna every bit as appealing moving across the silver screen as it was painted upon the canvas.
Many popular movies featuring scenes of England's rocky cliffs, the French Riviera, Polynesian beaches, and the coasts of Italy and Greece, were actually filmed on Laguna's natural coastline. A number of Hollywood's famous stars soon maintained homes here, including Bette Davis, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, Judy Garland, Rudolph Valentino, Charlie Chaplin, Mickey Rooney and Victor Mature. To this day, Laguna Beach remains popular with many celebrities.
Much of Laguna's modern-day fame lies with the annual Art Festivals which began over 75 years ago.The renowned Pageant of the Masters features major works of art replicated as real life exhibits using live models. Together with the Festival of the Arts, the Sawdust Festival and Art-A-Fair, they provide a forum of several hundred artists, and attract over 1 million visitors to Laguna Beach each year during the months of July and August.
Laguna Beach is located in the southwestern portion of Orange County, 60 miles south of Los Angeles and 60 miles north of San Diego. Bounded by seven miles of coastline, the city's 9 square miles are filled with a small and diversified resident population of 24,000.

Seattle, WA.Perfect Get away
Left on 10/15/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Sunset Cove is right on the ocean and close enough to the village of Laguna that we walked to town every day for lunch and shopping. My husband and I traveled with another couple and we found the 2 bedroom, 2 bath Seychelles unit was perfect for us. So perfect that we opted to eat dinner on our deck for all of the 4 nights we were there; what better way to enjoy the sunsets over the ocean?. With a good grocery store just a couple blocks away, it was easy to assemble a meal. We really enjoyed an exhibit on California artists at the Laguna art Museum.
The unit itself had very luxurious finishes and was impeccably clean and tastefully decorated. We lacked for nothing.
Be sure to eat lunch or dinner at Nick's; you can stroll there from Sunset Cove.Response from Tim Oneal - 11/27/2012

First time at the Villas and loved everything about it. Great location right on the beach,. gorgeous panoramic view, sound of surf 24/7, easy walking to downtown shops and restaurants, and property itself is lovely. Very private, tastefully decorated - comfortable to just hang out. Proved to be a great setting for a very relaxing vacation.

We had stayed there many times before but this was our last time together which actually made it sacred. Carter(my wife) transitioned to the after life shortly thereafter from cancer. Knowing the end was in sight we stole away one last time for a little heaven on the Beach between chemo's. It's was perfect! Thanks

I have been going to Sunset Cove since I was told to check it out and have been lucky enough to go back every summer for about the past ten years. I love it so much that the only down side are the tears as we leave. It was fantastic when my children were little, safe, contained, washers, dryers and all the comforts of home on the ocean. Mychildren have grown up going there and love it just as much now as young adults.Everyone who works around sunset cove and visits Sunset Cove has been a pleasure to be around. We look forward to seeing the other guests who come back year after year!

My family and I have been staying at Sunset Cove for about a dozen years. It's an annual must. The villas are exceptionally well appointed and the finishes are superior. As a real estate developer, I've been "artistically inspired" by the architectural details on several prior developments. we've stayed in most of the villas. Between family/friends that have accompanied us (or friends we've made while there) we've been in all of the villas. We allow the size of our party to determine which villa we select.
The location is perfect. Our visits have been 90-100% pedestrian oriented because Sunset is so proximate all the staples (which for my daughters includes shopping, theaters, art and for me include groceries, wine/beer/coffee and restaurants). If a vehicle is a necessity, Sunset's private/reserved/secured garage is integrated into the facility and immediately accessible. My parents who had mobility problems loved the community/accessibility.
We have referred literally dozens of family/friends and have occupied as many as three villas at the same time.
The staff is second to none. My family consider Tim and Peter as friends, friends we unfortunately don't get to see as often as we would like. -

PhoenixOne Word - amazing
Left on 09/26/2010 for a stay in July 2010
This was the second year we celebrated the 4th of July with a weeklong stay at Sunset Cove and it was even better than our first visit. The property, location and value stand on their own as far and away the best place to stay in Laguna. If you haven't browsed the pictures be sure to check them out (and keep in mind they don't do it justice as this place is even more beautiful in person). Tim and Peter are two of the nicest, most professional gentlemen you could meet and they go out of their way every single day to ensure that your vacation is nothing short of perfect. My only hesitation in writing this review is that our little "secret" is going to get out and they'll be too busy to squeeze us in for a visit next summer! If you enjoy falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves and waking to see a pod of dolphins swimming by your beachfront balcony every morning then this place is for you. Cheers!

Great location! This is the ultimate location center of The Village and on the beach. You don't need a car everything is within walking distance, if you do have your car great parking garage. Great staff and units are well equiped with kitchen goodies, beach essentials and are clean & well maintained. Oh, the views and sunsets many a late afternoon on the decks sipping away. We will without a doubt be back, our stay lasted two weeks the time flew by.

Skaneateles, NYAbsolutely amazing hospitality, accommodations & views!!
Left on 09/02/2010 for a stay in April 2009
Sunset Cove is by far our most favorite place stay in Southern California! The property itself is amazing! The luxurious villas and breathtaking whitewater views of the Coast make you feel like you are at a 5-star resort on the Riviera. Property Manager, Tim O'Neal, makes everything about our rental from start to finish worry-free and enjoyable. He's there to help at anytime in anyway which makes for an extremely relaxing vacation. Tim has always made us feel very welcome - as if Sunset Cove is our home away from home. And he's especially welcoming to our five young children which is hard to find at a top resort. Tim definitely takes the hassle out of vacationing with children! Tim and the entire staff including Peter Mertens are outstanding. Peter was on-site daily with a warm smile to make sure our villa was well-taken care of and there to help us with any request. The hospitality staff is very friendly, welcoming, and efficient. The mid-week clean is a nice plus and they always made sure our accommodations more than exceeded our expectations. We have stayed at Sunset Cove several times over the past 5 years, and will continue to stay for many years to come. We highly recommend Sunset Cove to anyone looking for an exceptionally relaxing and hassle-free vacation...you won't be disappointed!
