GaithersburgAwesome Condo with Great View
Left on 04/11/2013 for a stay in March 2013
With the help of the owner of this unit, we were able to secure another studio unit at Maui Kai. It was just perfect for the two of us. The lanai had oceanfront view (as all the other rooms did) and we had a view of both Lanai and Molokai islands. We were there March 19-26 and it was perfect whale watching season. We literally saw whales every day all throughout the day. We saw sea turtles, too. The condo was equipped with everything we needed and the bed was comfortable. We'll definitely try to stay here again if we ever venture back to Maui.

This owner helped us book a 1-bedroom corner unit at Maui Kai. She gave us more info than booking via the website. The corner suite is so great! It has large windowns on both sides, so the view is stunning, We could see the ocean from anywhere in the living room and sunset which made us feel so close to the ocean. The kitchen had everything, we cooked breakfast and enjoyed it in the living room with the beautiful view. We really didn't want to leave when we had to. Just wish I could go back to Hawaii again very soon!

Convenient beachfront condo - right on the water - great for late night walks, not really for swimming. Great view from patio - enjoyed many breakfasts out there. Grocery store and places to eat right across the street.
Our condo had everything we needed except spices. It was clean and updated. Enjoyed our stay. Would recommend - best place for the price and we researched a lot. -

We stayed a few days at the Sheraton and then moved to the Maui Kai for a few days. You get a lot for your money at the Maui Kai! Everything was great and we plan to stay there again the next time we visit Maui. It was fun viewing turtles while looking down from our balcony and of course you can't stop watching the whales. Bring your binoculars! This is a great place if you love to walk along the beach.

We stayed in the Maui Kai condos 604 & 605 during our week stay. This was our 5th trip to Hawaii and by far the most relaxing in a beautiful surrounding. The condos were amazing, clean, modern, and with spectacular views right out our lanai. Everything about the resort was wonderful. The grounds were well kept with beautiful flowers and shrubs. The pool, hot tub, and cabana area was peaceful. One night we ate out on the cabana and then just enjoyed the pool area. Not a group of people, like so many other resorts. The entire staff made you feel welcome and very much at home. I can't think of one negative thing to say

We stayed at this condo due to the amazing reviews on Tripadvisor. Overall, my wife and I had a great time in Maui and at the Maui Kai. We stayed in a studio suite, which had a full updated kitchen and nice bathroom. The views from our room were amazing, including some of the most incredible sunsets we have ever seen. It was very romantic, and we were able to walk to the resorts next door for dinner and drinks. You can't swim at the beach immediately in front of the hotel but can walk 2-3 minutes to your left or right. We saw many people snorkeling on both sides of the hotel. The staff is friendly, and they even have free Dvds to rent, including some of the latest titles, which were a treat for my wife and I after we went out for dinner. The only downside (if you can call it that) is that we were the youngest people in the complex by at least 2 decades. The place is very Golden Girls-esque, but again, it was clean, spacious, and the people we met were very friendly. I would strongly recommend.

Syracuse, NYMaui Kai - Ocean view that can't be beat
Left on 03/20/2012 for a stay in February 2012
Our condo unit was nice, we loved sitting on the balcony watching the whales, and falling asleep to the ocean sound every night. It had a Murphy bed, but that was not a problem. I was thinking one of those beds would be more like a sofa bed, but that was not the case, it was very comfortable. Staff was nice and friendly, we were happy with the choice.
Everything you will want or need is within walking distance or a short drive. You couldn't be any closer to the ocean unless you were actually in the ocean! -

Spectacular location on the beach; convenient to attractions and shopping. We spent hours watching sea turtles and whales from our lanai, snorkeling on the beach, and relaxing at the pool. We're planning a longer stay next time.
Room Tip: All rooms have balconies; we like the corner suites for even better views.

The Maui Kai studio we got was great! Everything was very comfortable and clean. We loved having our own private balcony overlooking the beach and ocean. The kitchen area was also very useful. It's also located in a great location close to markets, shops, and other hot spots. We would definitely consider staying here again.

Left on 11/23/2011 for a stay in November 2011
It was my wife and my 3rd trip to Maui and our 40th anniversary. What a perfect week we had. The condo exceeded our expectations. It was exceptionally clean, service was outstanding and the views were spectacular. Very close to a supermarket and easily accessible to go north to Kapalua Bay or south to Lahaina. It seems as if you are actually "in" the ocean you're so close to it. The location and low number of units also made it very quiet in regards to not a lot of folks coming and going all hours of the day and night. Pool chairs were always available as well as the computer in the pool rec area. Without a doubt this is the place we would stay again on Kaanapali Beach. Room Tip: The unit we had has a glass/screen enclosed lanai that opened and closed. Made it nice to be able to close the glass at night to completely eliminate wave noise but yet open both the glass and screen for a perfect unobstructed view of the ocean and islands of Lanai and Molokai.

My husband, son and I spent 10 days at the Maui Kai this past July 2011. I love the Maui Kai because it doesn't feel like a big, impersonal resort, more like friends and family. Every unit looks out on the ocean, so we're always guaranteed a great view. I also love that the owners usually leave some kind of handy thing for people to use, like beach umbrellas or beach chairs. I just can't recommend the Maui Kai enough.

We had a great stay at Maui Kai. Great location and great beach! The unit is oceanfront and looks out over Molokai, Lanai, and Oahu in the
distance. Had we been there during whale season, I couldn't imagine a better spot for viewing. The grounds are exceptionally maintained. Everything you need is close by. Great market, coffee & more within walking distance. This is a small condo complex. If you want a small quiet complex it is wonderful. If you are looking for a resort atmosphere, this is not the place. The studio unit is well kept. We had a wonderful stay and plan future visits.

The location is spectacular. Oceanfront is almost a misnomer; in the ocean is closer to reality. I could toss a stone into the ocean from our deck if I wished to do so. The ocean is so close, many beach walkers use the small rock front breakwater to walk on to traverse in front of Maui Kai rather than risk the very wet possibilities of walking on the sand. We spent many meals at the condo because why should we leave? There is no other restaurant that has a better view. Our second day , there was a rainbow that was right in front of the condo. Maximum parking distance from condo in our 10 days there was less than 100' (Free Parking) almost all other places charge for parking for the 1/4 mile from the building. Great pool and hot tub, BBQ facilities, very well maintained.
We're returning this year and can't wait! -

Maui Kai met and exceeded our expectations. The Maui Kai is literally right on the beach, at high tide the water reaches the back patio, so getting to the ocean is quick and easy. Our room was very comfortable and attractive. The lanai was our favorite spot, it seemed like we were perched just above the ocean waves and the views were spectacular. The staff were all friendly and efficient and the whole place was immaculate. We loved it and would love to go back. Room Tip:

We chose the Maui Kai because it had many good reviews and the rates were great. We did our booking with Donna Bender who was very helpful in finding the right condo for us. We were in 1006, top floor and the views were stunning. We seen whales and their calves each day but one out of the entire week. The junior suite was beautifully furnished and had been recently renovated, with a king size bed, flat screen T.V., full kitchen with a dishwasher, couch area and a dinning area. The sunsets each evening were awesome and breathtaking. This condo has a small outdoor pool, a hot tub, and a cabana with a full kitchen and pic nic tables. It also had 2 big barbeques and many people used each night to grill there food. The location is great. You can walk to a local supermarket within about 5 minutes. It is a great value for your money and if we do return to Maui we will stay at this condo again. It was an enjoyable experience.

Left on 05/16/2011 for a stay in April 2011
My husband and I stayed at the Maui Kai for 8 nights in late april. After touring much of the island, I think this condo is in the best location! You are just a few minutes away from lots of popular restaurants in Lahaina but out of
the craziness of south Kaanapali beach (Whaler's Village).
The sand is literally a few steps away which makes it easy for morning strolls on the beach. The sunset from the lanai does not disappoint! We were able to watch the whales most mornings while enjoying breakfast on the lanai and saw a few turtles, too.
Going north, there are some fabulous snorkeling beaches but there were quite a few people out snorkeling right outside the Maui Kai.
Donna's unit was decorated nicely and had almost everything you would ever need (no beach chairs
or other beach-type things -- there is a cooler and the Maui Kai provides you with a set of beach towels for your stay that you are responsible for washing if you want clean ones which was needed on our 9 day stay!). The kitchen was well equipped and we were able to eat breakfast and pack a lunch every day in the cooler and Tupperware
provided.
The bed is comfortable and the waves right outside will lull you to sleep. Although small, the bathroom is clean. There is daily maid service to provide new bathroom towels and 1/2 of the time they straightened up the bed which was an unexpected but nice treat!
I would highly recommend the Maui Kai. Everyone from owners, fellow renters, and the staff are friendly and
helpful when asking for suggestions. If you are looking for the 'young hip' crowd -- this is probably not the place for you... think retirees, instead ;) Their company was perfect since we were looking for quiet and relaxation! -

We loved the location, overlooking the ocean whilst sitting on the balcony (lanai) was so relaxing.

We were within walking distance to restaurants and shops. There was a bus stop close by which was handy if you didn't have a car. Only $2.00 for a day pass. -

Just like most of the other reviewers I absolutely loved falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the ocean. It was amazing how close we were to the water! Such a treat. You couldn't ask for a more convenient and comfortable stay, it was so close to everything you needed. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed using the pool & cabana to play ping pong and the BBQ was a great way to sit and chat with the other owners / renters. It was such a fantastic home away from home. Big thank you to Donna for all her help with this fabulous condo! We will definitely be back again in the near future :)

We had the most wonderful time on vacation in your condo! I can tell you now, it won't be our only stay there. Falling asleep at night to the sound of the waves lapping the shore is absolutely heavenly. This is the most relaxing place we have ever stayed. The office and cleaning staff are so helpful and friendly they truely made us feel like family. The spirit of aloha is alive and well at Maui Kai! We felt like the wildlife put on a show just for us. We saw a lot of whales and turtles and we even saw dolphins a couple of times. The sunsets are to die for! We can't thank you enough for your guidebook, it was our bible during our stay.

This was our 2nd time to stay at Maui Kai, and we really enjoyed our time in this condo. Donna has really made her condo attractive and comfortable(especially the bed. Everything you need to cook with, neat, clean, lots of books to read if you have time. I especially enjoyed some of the great books on Hawaii. Maui Kai is a very convenient place to stay, close to Lahina a really great place to explore. There are lots of places within walking distance to pick up a bite to eat, groceries, beverages etc. Best of all is the view from the lanai. We watched sea turtles, whales, surfers, snorklers, and the best sunsets anywhere. Maui Kai has everything you want, it is not crowded and the staff there are fantastic to deal with. I cannot recommend this place enough and the condo was great. Can't wait to get back.

Our vacation was spectacular! However, one week is not long enough. The Maui Kai
was great (but the ocean front spoiled us and I don't think we could stay in a condo
that wasn't on the beach now). The Maui Kai itself was quiet and clean and the staff
were excellent! The common kitchen area and barbecues were very handy.
sleeping to the sound of waves crashing on the shore makes you forget the stresses you left at home. -

This was a Xmas gift to myself - not having any stress over the holidays was amazing. The Maui Kai was exactly what we were looking for. Not being a huge resort made it so special, staff were like family, the accommodations were fully stocked, comfortable. Location was close to Lahaina. But the main feature was the view!! All suites are ocean front -literally on the ocean.
So impressed with the service you're giving. You make us feel like we're the only ones you're dealing with which I know we're one of many!! Having been in the customer service industry forever (it feels like it). I know it's not always easy.

Left on 01/03/2011 for a stay in November 2010
Maui Kai is a condo building right on the ocean...as in, about 20 feet from the waves. There were times we had to close the sliders on the lanai in order to hear TV over the sound of the surf! Not all the lanais are enclosed, we learned, but we liked the option to feel the breeze and hear the surf when we wanted to. The pool (not huge), spa (good size) and laundry were clean; poolside had plenty of lounges; parking was plentiful and safe; daily housekeeping was light but adequate (they empty trash and make the bed). The managers were friendly and informative. Because the building is cinderblock, it is quiet -- no problem with thin walls that allow you hear your neighbors. We had a rental car but met a couple who had decided to use the nearby public bus service and found it very convenient -- especially since parking in Lahaina can be challenging sometimes. There is a small strip mall with a supermarket and eateries walking distance from Maui Kai (though the supermarkets in Lahaina are cheaper). We also met couples who have been coming to Maui Kai for years even though they had tried other condos. We heard that whale watching is excellent from Maui Kai because of its proximity to the ocean, and you can literally walk out the back door onto the beach where you can take long walks either direction in Ka'anapali. We found the surf at Maui Kai too choppy for relaxed snorkeling and swimming but there are good beaches for these activities nearby. We will definitely book a unit at Maui Kai when we return to Maui.

I was in Maui for the first time for my brother's wedding, and wanted to find a place that fit my budget, was clean, well located, and most importantly had a great ocean front view. I can tell you that this fit all of that criteria perfectly. The view - unbelieveable! You are right on top of the ocean, and there is nothing better than listening to the waves and enjoying an evening cocktail on the lanai. The location was great, you're not far from the main strip in Lahaina and you're walking distance from some good restaurants - try Duke's for a romantic meal and Java Jazz for a delicious breakfast in a fun, quirky environment. There is no fitness facility here but we were able to do a week-long membership fairly inexpensively at another property in easy walking distance. There's a great snorkel spot right off the beach of the Maui Kai as well. It's not a luxury hotel filled with nightlife and activity, but it's a good quiet place to go and relax after a busy day of exploring. Donna Bender was very professional and helpful, always responding quickly to my various questions, offering great advice and of course with any booking she'll send you a free copy of her guide to Maui, to which we referred often. The staff at the Maui Kai was helpful, and everything was just as advertised - no surprises with any parking or cleaning fees. They cleaned the room daily, the bed was comfortable, and we had a wonderful stay. I can't wait to return and will definitely stay here again.

As my review title states, I truly felt at home. Upon entering the condo, you are greeted with a jaw dropping view of nothing but water and the sounds of the ocean. The tasteful yet simple décor was welcoming. Everything you need is provided and was there in the condo. I honestly spent my first two days relaxing inside and I truly enjoyed it. I would've been satisfied just being there but since this was my first time on the island, I wanted to explore just a little and with Donna's Free "Local Girl's Guide to Maui”, I was given great ideas on where to go and what to do. You will not be mislead with the information in the guide, just make sure you are back in the condo for the amazing sunsets. Initially I wasn't sure where I wanted to stay but Donna was very patient in helping me book a place. She even provided other options for me, but I was extremely happy with my choice. Not to sound cliché but it was everything and more and I will definitely book again through Donna.

Left on 09/10/2010 for a stay in May 2010
After finding a deal on Maui Kai's website we read many reviews for Donna Bender and figured we'd give her a try. She was able to honor the same deal as the promotion on the website. Even though #807 wasn't available she got us a great room on the 4th floor which had more recently been remodeled. The room was clean and had everything we needed. My favorite feature was closing just the screen to the balcony and sleeping to the sounds of the ocean, which came right up to the hotel. The balcony (lanai?) was so private that we left the doors open all the time. We also loved the location, price, pool, Bbq's, front desk staff . . . everything was perfect for our 10 year anniversary. The only reason I couldn't give it the full 5 stars is because the room was a little older in styling and if you're looking to stay in a fancy-schmancy hotel you probably would go somewhere else. However, it was super clean and had all the amenities that made it a better choice for us than a hotel. Free parking, free safe, full kitchen, and on and on. Plus, the price was unbeatable! With lots of really useful information in Donna's free "Girl's Guide to Maui" we absolutely fell in love with Maui and plan on going back to Maui Kai every time!

I spent a lot of time researching the best place to stay in Maui. For the price, location, and service, I guarantee you wont find a better steal.
You'll be spending the majority of your time at the beach or doing activities, so frankly, I'll never understand why you'd want to spend the thousands/night at any of the bulge bracket hotels. -

We recently stayed at the Maui Kai and I can't say enough about how fantastic it was. We booked the unit through Donna Bender and she provided wonderful service. Although Donna's studio unit 807 wasn't large enough for our family (5 adults), she was able to book us into a nice 2-bedroom corner unit in the building. Everything she told us she would do - was done. When she said we would receive an email on a specific date - we received that email. I felt very confident working with her. I booked with Donna because of the previous recommendations for her on Tripadvisor and those recommendations were well deserved! Donna's free "Local Girl's Guide to Maui" that she provided to us for booking with her, was a great resource. We visited several of the restaurants and shops listed in the guide.
All the staff we dealt with were super friendly. It felt just like we had a home in Maui for a week. The beach area was the perfect place to relax. There isn't much sandy area behind the building but there is a great area on either side - very clean and easily accessible. Overall, I don't think I could have had a better trip and I can't wait to go back!

We were extremely pleased with the excellent quality of service provided by Donna Bender. She was very patient and helpful in all aspects of our trip. We stayed at Maui Kai 807, and were very happy with the service provided there. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. It was also great that we had a free copy of "Local Girl's Guide to Maui” as a resource. It had a lot of wonderful suggestions that we were happy to receive.

While the 807 room was not available, Donna Bender was very helpful in providing a nice alternative at the Maui Kai. She also gave us the "Local Girl's Guide to Maui" which gave down to earth descriptions of restaurants, things to do, where to snorkel and more. I would book through Donna again for my travel needs.

We had a nice relaxing time at Maui Kai, we would happily recommend you and the condo to
anyone we know! Thanks again for all your help and efficient correspondance and organisation of
our stay. The condo is the closest you can get to the beach without getting your feet wet. Our boys loved hanging out in the cabana and pool. Our stay provided a much needed quite time after the busyness of Waikiki, we all enjoyed the change of pace.

Left on 05/13/2010 for a stay in March 2010
We had a wonderful time in #807 at the Maui Kai. The trip was magical, beautiful and exceeded our expectations. The room was clean, quiet (except for the amazing ocean sounds), and comfortable. We appreciated having the laundry a few steps away, and the amenities, such as the safe, the well-stocked kitchen, and the daily maid service was much appreciated. The Maui Kai staff were courteous and helpful. Free parking and plenty of spaces was a great relief! We never even got to use the pool because we were always on the go or at the beach. I had no idea that the snorkeling was so good right down the beach at Kehakili!
Your Local Girl's Guide was very helpful. We tried many of the local foods and really enjoyed them. It also helped us with shopping and restaurants.
We would definitely consider returning to the Maui Kai, and would not hesitate to refer others. -

Our party was too large for your studio so you put us into a 1-bedroom unit. I thought your service was great and would definitely book with you again if the opportunity arises for another trip to Hawaii. As far as the Maui Kai goes you couldn't ask for a better view. The place was very will kept and clean and the staff excellent. I can' think of anything I would really add to your Local Girl's Guide to Maui - it was handy to have and read thru. Thank you Donna for making a booking thru the internet and email hassle free.

Even though the owners unit 807 wasn't available she arranged for us to rent another nice unit in the Maui Kai building.
She also provided us with a copy of the FREE Local Girls Guide to Maui which was helpful in making our stay on Maui very enjoyable.
The owner was able to provide discounts as well which are available at the owner's website at www.mauikai.biz or through their VRBO listing www.vrbo.com/257252.
The Maui Kai is a great place to stay given that is directly on the Kaannapali beach. It has a private pool and recreation area. Great for the family to play, tan, swim, hot tub, BBQ, relax.
Parking is free, free Internet and the service friendly.
The Maui Kai allows whale , dolphin watching right from your Lanai, snorkeling right in front of the building, lot's of fish and even turtles.
A great walk down Kaannapali beach boardwalk.
Sunsets unbelievable daily!

Left on 01/20/2010 for a stay in December 2009
If you want to have a good time on Maui why Unit 807 at the Maui Kai is the place to start.
This unit has everything beginning with a total Ocean Front view from which you can watch gorgeous sunsets or look out at the Islands of Lanai & Molokai Or you can sit back on your lanai and watch surffers or sail boats playing in the ocean.
The unit itself has everything you could possible need. The kitchen is better equipped than my own at home. All the appliances are new and everything in the unit is first class.
The location is great and the staff is wonderful. Lots of similar units in the area charge twice as much so it is really a good deal.
I've been staying in this unit twice a year for the past three years and everytime I leave I can't wait to get back. -

Although we didn't stay in room 807, the owner managed to get us into room

We enjoyed the condo location for many reasons..oceanfront views, snorkelling
and beach walks, walking distances to grocery stores and restaurants and
interesting and friendly staff & other renters.
The pricing was very fair and there was no hidden extras with cleaning and
laundry being included.
Will certainly be going back. -

Portola Valley CAMaui Kai -- Perfect Maui Location
Left on 12/30/2009 for a stay in January 2008
We've stayed in a number of units at the Maui Kai, our favorite unit, 807, isn't always available but the owner is able to book us into similar units through the Maui Kai rental program. The views are fantastic with great whale watching from December to April. We also like the proximity to snorkeling, surfing, and swimming without getting into the car. There is a also large variety of restaurants and grocery stores in the vicinity (many within easy walking distance and plenty more a few miles in either direction). The owners provide a really nice local guide so you don't have to waste time guessing which places to try. All the amenities are excellent (including maid service)and the Maui Kai staff friendly and helpful. All these things together make the Maui Kai a super convenient and relaxing place to stay. The prices at the Maui Kai are also much better than the adjacent properties which means we can have a longer stay.

Redwood City, CaliforniaMaui Kai 807 - No Ka Oi! The Best!
Left on 12/19/2009 for a stay in June 2009
I find one of the best ways to really enjoy Maui and its beauty is to rent a
condo that is smack on the beach. The Maui Kai is the best bargain I have
found, and I especially like unit 807.
Recently refurbished with new kitchen, bath tile, and furniture. Although
the unit was refurbished there is no way of improving on the view and
location of this place. What I like most is the completely private and extra
large lanai with its direct view of the islands Lani’i and Molokai’i. Nothing
beats making Kona coffee and preparing ripe papayas first thing in the
morning. It’s the time of day you see turtles popping their heads up or
dolphins arching out of the water. During whale season, you see a
spectacular show of breaching so close you don’t even need binoculars. In
the evenings you can enjoy a relaxing dinner watching those beautiful Maui
sunsets. There isn’t a restaurant in Maui with a better view!
Nothing is more soothing than hearing the ocean. At the Maui Kai it lulls
you to sleep and greets you when you wake. After an hour on the lanai all
the mainland stress is gone.
Right outside your door is a sandy beach for snorkeling, sunbathing, and
swimming. Being at the end of Ka’anapali, you are away from the crowds.
The pool is close by so you can go back and forth as you like.
There is daily room service. So you get the benefits of a hotel such as clean
towels, sheets, and bath products, but not the cost.
I always book directly with the owner using her web site www.mauikai.biz. I
like the personal contact and the extra perks she gives, such as her book,
“Local Girl’s Guide to Maui”. It is full of useful information on undiscovered
restaurants, where to find the best shopping, and Maui activities. If 807 is
booked, the owner is able to book you into other rooms. Booking through
the owner you get great room discounts!

Room 807
Over the years, this room has been transformed from a standard studio to a
deluxe accommodation with all the comforts of home enhanced by a
gorgeous view of the Auau Channel.
With its lofty location, room 807 provides the guest with the perfect vantage
point for viewing a variety of marine life, including green sea turtles,
dolphins, and --the stars of the show--humpback whales.
Inside the unit, guess will appreciate the numerous upgrades throughout,
especially in the kitchen and deck areas.
After a day of sight seeing, exploring, or just relaxing you can end your day
on the spacious lanai toasting yet another spectacular sunset.
My wife and I agree that room 807 is that perfect combination of
convenience, comfort, view, and quiet that will make your vacation a special
one. -

We could not believe we were overhanging the ocean with spectacular views of
Lanai and Molokai. Every sunset was something you would see in postcards of
Hawaii. The facilities were great as was the guide they left for us which gave us
an insiders view of Maui. We loved the local take out places of local foods
which included fish with capers, lomi lomi, and lots of pupu pupus. We also
discovered the mai tai formula and pineapple corer along with an ample supply
of tiny umbrellas. Every morning would start with a stop in the lobby for a
free fresh latte. After that we would walk along the beach to the Sheraton. We
would pass by all of the newer resorts and none were perched at the ocean's
edge like the Maui Kai was. Although we generally prefer a one bedroom
condo for our vacations, this studio was so much better than the available one
bedrooms because we could see the stars and moon at night as well as have
the surf lull us to sleep. The bedrooms here are at the back so they are just a
place to sleep.
