Lovely views and location, but needs real cleaning, repairs

Left on 07/09/2011 for a stay in April 2011

I told this company they shouldn't ask me for a review, because although the location and views were the best so far at Whaler, the living room and hall carpet spots and big dust shadow build-up in corners were some of the first things we saw entering. The kitchen was fully functional and we used it daily, but the kitchen cabinets are poorly refaced, and a strip of wood is missing to right of stove - shoddy workmanship. We will try the Whaler again, but another unit. Even could see mold buildup in the ceiling shower above the grating, which for air quality and health is a big concern. Nice new TV and cheerful full light, and the management offered to clean the carpet when I complained but my hubby didn't want to deal with having wet carpet during our week there so opted out. This amount of neglect is why I gave service 3 stars, but the Concierge lady was phenomenal with restaurant recommendations and deserves highest praise for her professionalism. Below building garage is ideal for this area, lovely neighborhood.

The best trip to Maui we have ever had!

Left on 03/30/2011 for a stay in February 2011

This was our sixth trip to Maui, but our first time to stay in a condo. I was unsure about going the condo route. I had a lot of questions but, Julie, the condo owner was nice enough to call me and answer all of my questions. It definitely turned out to be the best decision we ever made. We could have spent the whole trip on the lanai and been perfectly happy. We had everything we could possibly need. We really enjoyed the large screen tv and having use of the huge binoculars for whale watching from the lanai. The condo was very comfortable and has a beautiful view. There is plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby. We had such a good time that we have decided to return next year.

I can't wait to go back!

Left on 01/28/2011 for a stay in December 2010

We loved everything about the unit. It felt big and roomy and was nicely decorated. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. The furniture, sofa bed and bed were very comfortable. The only thing we would've loved was a few more beach chairs (there was one in the closet) and the ice maker hooked up.

      Great Location

Left on 08/19/2010 for a stay in June 2010

We had a great time staying in #759. The location was perfect - close to Whaler's Village, a view of the ocean, all the amenities of home. We definitely recommend this condo.

One of the best rooms at the Whaler

Left on 07/12/2010 for a stay in June 2010

I have stayed at the Whaler many times before and this really is one of the best units at the Whaler. The room is decorated nicely and you can tell the owners take great heart and probably stay in the unit themselves. I love the thick carpeting and the DVR is an added bonus as most rooms do not have this. The view from the balcony is excellent and the furniture on the balcony is much better than the 'standard issue' at the Whaler. There is a lot of great beach gear in the closet and the kitchen gadgets are fun. Check in and check-out is very easy and there's towel card system to get fresh beach towels throughout the day. There is no reason why you shouldn't request this room right now...that is unless it's a week that I'd like to stay there. Thank you for a great vacation.

      A Wonderful Week

Left on 05/27/2010 for a stay in April 2010

We have stayed at the Whaler before and always have a wonderful time. The location is perfect! We found this time that the outside of the property could use a coat of paint and the carpet in our condo needed to be cleaned ( or replaced), but neither of these things hampered our enjoyment. The condo has everything you could need and was very comfortable. Everyone we dealt with at the Whaler and the property management was very helpful. Overall it was a wonderful week!

We have always loved coming to Maui.

Left on 02/17/2010 for a stay in January 2010

The service at the hotel was great! The facility was in a beautiful location and enjoyed the Kanapali area emmensely. It was so nice to be able to walk the whole strip on the beach and visit the other hotels without a problem. And the Whaler's Village was a bonus! Unit #759 was a beautiful big unit but needs some serious upgrading. The kitchen cupboards have an odour and there were sugar ants that visited us off and on. The whole kitchen needs an upgrade. The carpet also needs to be cleaned or replaced. The topper on the mattress helped but the mattress should also be replaced. The appliances, utensils and rest of the furniture were in good condition. The balcony was large but was hard to sit out there as the exhaust coming from the restaurant in the Whaler's Village was smelly and it was very noisy. So needless to say we used the balcony very little. I would not hesitate to stay again in this facility but would probably get a unit on the inside as it was alot quieter, our daughter and son-in-law stayed on a floor inside unit. Theirs must of been recently upgraded as the furniture, kitchen and floors looked quite new and it was cheaper. Realize we payed extra for the view but was hard to enjoy it when we didn't spend much time on the balcony. We have always enjoyed coming to the Hawaiian Islands and would not hesitate to come again.

The Whaler performs a quarterly pest control service, this was at the end of the quarter. We called Terminix in for a special treatment, the ant problem has been taken care of. Many guests prefer this side of the building with its views of the Island of Lanai and protection from the prevailing trade winds. Its important when you first arrive to let us know right away of any problems. We call the day after arrival to double check that all is well and are surprised ot hear of these concerns after the fact.

      Huge condo & lanai

Left on 01/11/2010 for a stay in December 2009

This was our first trip to Maui and we absolutely loved it. The 1 bedroom condo is huge with a nice sectional couch, large flat screen TV, and plenty of closet space.

The lanai is expansive with doors from both the living and bedrooms. We enjoyed breakfast on the lanai while watching the sunrise. The view is very nice. People complaining about the noise from Whaler's Village may be referring to the HVAC units which emit a low hum. But that's it. There is no late night partying to worry about. And we loved the aroma of the grills from the restaurants.

Our only complaint is about the kitchen. It's a small space but that wasn't a big deal. It could use a remodel, and especially a new refrigerator and dish washer. The ice maker didn't work very well and the fridge didn't keep the beers very cold.

Overall we loved unit 759 and are interested in returning in 2010. The beach out front it amazing and the Whaler is conveniently located near Black Rock.
