This pretty, original fisherman's house, next to the pebbled shore, above the water, is situated in the picturesque lake resort of S. Siro, on the north west side of Lake Como. It is a charming accommodation of about 130 sqm perched right on a narrow pebble beach along Como's western shore in Santa Maria Rezzonico, just about 6 km north of the fashionable town of Menaggio. Its stylish interior has been nicely decorated for the comforts of guests. A painted wooden boat adorns the kitchen ceiling.
Being right "on the water" this house offers beautiful lake view from the interiors and from the large terraces. The house has a particular str...ucture and develops upward: it consists of two, not connected parts, each with independent entrance. The ground floor of about 25 sq mt features a nice studio flat with matrimonial bed, kitchenette, bathroom with tub, lovely terrace with a great view of the lake. Behind, on the other side of the house, is the entrance of the main part: on the first level are a dining room with great views and an open-plan fully equipped kitchen with access to an outdoor large panoramic terrace. Up one level are the living room a full bath with Jacuzzi and telephone shower and a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. On the the top floor are a second double bedroom with en-suite shower room plus a lofted area with two additional twin beds mainly suitable for kids. The two double beds cannot be separated. In the basement are the washing machine and a sauna. Outside there is an additional gated terrace solarium with BBQ.
The visitor needs to park the car a little way from the village and walk the last few yards, approx. 250 meters. The way to the house leads along several cobbled paths with steps that can be slippery when wet or icy therefore the house is not suitable for elderly guests or people with walking difficulties. A porter service is available to help with your luggage, but leave your high heels at home and bring a pair of good walking shoes. Please note that the lakefront is public, not private property: you might see occasional walker or fishermen, and they have a perfect right to be there.
The lake is shaped like an upside-down "Y" and the beautiful towns of Como and Lecco sit at the ends of the southwestern and southeastern branches respectively. The small towns of Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna are situated at the intersection of the three branches of the lake; a triangular boat service operates between them. Fisherman's house is situated on the north west side of the lake, close to Switzerland. San Siro is a charming old village with lots of character; here you can still visit the beautiful castle with its arches dating back to the year 1000AD. The area offers plenty of gorgeous walks; you can also easily reach Lugano and enjoy a spot of shopping in Switzerland. The best way to visit the rest of Lake Como is by boat. There is a public boat service that takes you to Como with its historical centre and fascinating Silk Museum; private boat services are also available for hire. Como has been an important silk manufacturing town for many centuries, and to this day Como's silk is still considered to be among the best for quality. Another nearby excursion is to Bellagio, the "pearl of the lake". It has often been described as the prettiest village in Europe with its charming historic centre; from here you can also visit the beautiful Villa Melzi with its ornamental gardens, or sail over to Comacina Island - the only island on the lake. From Como you can also take a funicular ride to Brunate - a hill-top town with magnificent views over the city, the lake and its surrounding mountains. On the other side of the lake you can visit Lecco, the town mentioned by Alessandro Manzoni in his famous book "The Betrothed".
