Vancouver, CanadaA Little Bit of Heaven
Left on 02/11/2013 for a stay in February 2013
Spent two nights at the Cowichan Riverside Cottage at the beginning of Feb 2013 after spending several days in Victoria attending a conference. We were not prepared for the serenity of the surroundings or for how well everything was presented and maintained.
Cool nights inside with a wood stove, sleeping with the window open just enough so as to hear the river running by...Waking up and watching the herons do the balance beam on the logs by the river bank, while the resident eagle watched everything from atop his old growth tree. Did I mention sitting on the porch and watching the antics of the little woodpecker? So tame that he lets you walk right by him.
The cabin, simply put, is a little slice of Heaven, perfect for those that just want to get away and enjoy what nature had to offer.
The owner, Brenda, is a very nice lady, accommodating, professional and courteous.
We will be back...absolutely. -

St. Moritz, SwitzerlandBack again to the dream cottage on the river
Left on 12/17/2012 for a stay in October 2012
After our last visit two years ago we have been dreaming of returning to this beautiful cottage - and now we are back home and have again started to dream about going again. The cottage has even improved since we last stayed there - if this is possible. We again enjoyed everything this jewel has to offer, the calm and relax and the fly-fishing from the property, right below the veranda, and of course the fresh caught fish for dinner (you need a licence, but as this is a fishing holiday for us, we had it). Staying again in late October, thus the rainy season, it was so relaxing to come back in to the cozy warmth of a woodfire and - once warm again, to be out in the rain and on the river just steps from the living room. And in the night, to hear the rain coming down hard and to know you are well protected and warm and you can wake up to fresh coffee and a good breakfast with a view of the river from your table.
Booking and all contacts with Brenda have been a joy - she is such a nice and accomodating person and takes great care of her guests without ever intruding their privacy. We had a very good internet-connection this time, which is important for us, as we are partly working during out travel times.
The property now is gated, so dont miss it. You have gone too far if you passed a nice new big solid wood portal - the property is behind it
Unfortunately we missed the resident bear again - but perhaps with dogs on the property, he did not show up.
I have seen a "special" today in Tripadvisor for this cottage and I would have wanted to just pack my bag and get there for a while - but we have to wait and work and continue dreaming for some time now - we sure will be back sometime. -

What a setting!
The cottage is next to the river and has a large deck... complete with all outside furniture and a Weber barbeque.
The kitchen is fully stocked with all cutlery, crockery and utensils.
We could have stayed for a lot longer... but alas, we had to move on. -

We loved our stay at the Cowichan Riverside Cottage. The location is excellent with tons of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, tubing, and fishing. The property is peaceful and well maintained and you could not get any closer to the river. We enjoyed floating down the river right to our cottage and then bbq'ing on our riverside deck. Brenda is very welcoming and accommodating and we will definitely be back in the future.

We stayed at this glorious cabin for 4 nights in May 2012. The cabin is beautiful, with all mod cons. The setting is truly wonderful with the deck overhanging the river (the river was full when we stayed). Brenda is a lovely lady who made us very welcome, we really didn't want to leave.

Left on 05/27/2012 for a stay in May 2012
If I built a cabin, this is pretty close to what it would look like. A beautiful big deck overlooking the river, perfect for barbecuing. Main bedroom with big bright window (with second bedroom for kids and/or guests), kitchen well-stocked with everything you'll need, and clean and well-cared for bathroom.
Brenda was warm and welcoming but left us to enjoy our time alone (which was very much appreciated).
We traveled there by bike on the Trans Canada Trail (though I would recommend riding on the old Cowichan highway unless you have a mountain bike or hybrid), and enjoyed a quiet weekend watching fly fishers working their way down the river and reading on the deck. A short walk into town to get groceries and other necessities makes it a great location for a getaway.
We booked again for next May when we checked out. We'll bring our fishing rods next time! -

Left on 03/22/2012 for a stay in October 2010
It is some time since we stayed at the Riverside Cottage, but we still dream and plan to return to this marvellous place. We arrived during a rainy period and found the cozy interior to be just what we had been locking for. It was so nice to settle down on the bed and look out over the river or light the fireplace (enough wood provided) and sit in the warmth in the living room. The cottages has a fully eqipped kitchen as well as a gas BBQ on the large porch. We rarely ever left the property, fishing along the shore of the river and just enjoying the peace. We once even forgot to do our daily grocery shopping, but never mind, we caught two trouts and put them in the pan. This is a place that put's you at peace just thinking about when you are in stress!
Brenda is a very nice person, taking personal care of her guests and keeping this jewel very nice with attention to detail. -

The Riverside Cottage is a very pleasant and cozy home on a spectacular piece of Cowichan riverfront property. The cottage is riverside with the deck perched right at water's edge. We were fortunate to view 2 otters swim by one evening as well as watch various waterfowl while we barbecued on the deck. From this location we went on long pleasant bike rides along the Trans Canada Trail, which is only a short distance away. I fished for trout in the pristine waters directly in front of the property. Brenda was very accommodating and friendly and we enjoyed our stay very much.

A beautiful rustic cottage nestled along the banks of the beautiful Cowichan River. I visited here for 5 days mid September and felt as if I had stepped into paradise! The grounds and cottage are extremely clean and well kept. The kitchen was as well stocked with dishes, appliances, and pots and pans as my own. The BBQ, and patio furniture were all high quality and well maintained. There was a good wood supply for the wood stove in the cottage. The two bedrooms each had double beds with lots of extra warm throws for the cool autumn nights and the living room has a queen size pull out. There was a nice size bathroom with a lovely "rain shower". The owner lives on the property and readily available to answer any questions or deal with any issues that may arise.

Left on 09/07/2011 for a stay in August 2011
I had the pleasure of staying an entire month at this wonderful cottage located directly on the Cowichan River. Many mornings were spent drinking coffee while admiring the resident birds and wildlife from the huge deck. The self contained cottage had absolutely everything I needed for the duration of the stay. Brenda, the property owner, was very accommodating and certainly allowed us to relax and fully enjoy her piece of paradise. The Lake Cowichan region offers as much or as little as you want to do on vacation, from tubing the river to sampling the delightful local wines and ciders of the region. The location allowed us to enjoy many nearby activities but was also an ideal hub for daytrips to Victoria or up-island to Nanaimo or beyond. This vacation rental is a definite book-again!
