GlasgowThe most wonderful views.
Left on 05/26/2013 for a stay in May 2013
This was our 3rd visit to Marine Villa and our best yet!
The house is very modern & well equipped with everything you would need for a home away from home. The rooms are all a great size, the house was spotless & the welcoming bottle of wine on arrival was appreciated.
The location of the house is right beside the road into Lamlash & although you get a little traffic noise, Arran hardly has a rush hour! Any noise is more than compensated by the wonderful views of Lamlash bay & the Holy Isle from the front of the house. It's the first thing you want to see when you wake up & the last thing before you close your eyes to go to sleep.
I am sure we will be back :-) -

From our arrival on arran we were so excited to get to our home away from home and were not disappointed. Although there were just two of us, and the home can sleep many more it was perfect and cozy! Amazing location, amazing views, furnished very nicely and we loved having a washer and dryer available. Getting there was simple and easy, parking was simple and we easily settled in. All that you might need in the kitchen and comfortable beds.
Book and stay...you will love it!!Response from Claire - 11/07/2012

We had a great time here!
The view is simply stunning from the large French windows at the front, and you only need to cross the little road in front of the house to be on the beach, with gannets diving, curlews poking around etc.
There's a nice patio at the front with picnic table and pots of flowers. The back garden is rather dull but might be handy if you have small children needing to run about safely.
The position is handy for the Lamlash pier (boat trips) and for the Co-op and other shops, also for the bus stop for the excellent bus services. We came by car and there was ample parking. Several of the walks in our walking guide books seemed to start at the house itself!
The house is spacious and modern - which suited us well, as we needed the room, and also wanted to have full laundry facilities for the inevitable damp and muddy clothes from our walking activities. It's spotlessly clean and we were a bit worried about bringing in sand and mud, however there is a utility room and plenty of storage space for boots, jackets etc.
The kitchen is quite well-equipped for cooking your own meals. There are some cafes and hotel restaurants within walking distance, of variable standards. The best meal out we had on the island was at Creeler's seafood restaurant (Brodick Farm): great langoustines and good arran cheeses.
The only downside of the house was some traffic noise as the side of the house is close to the main road, which is surprisingly busy... this is more of a problem if you have the bedroom windows open.
Bedrooms are comfortable (two with sloping ceilings), showers are powerful.
Looking forward to returning in future!Response from Claire - 09/28/2012

A lovely property in an amazing location on a wonderful island. Have stayed on arran many times and this was right up there with our best visits - helped by magnificent weather! The villa is well appointed, plenty of room inside and out. Lots to do for kids of all ages in Lamlash (not least crabbing on the pier) and the island in general. We were very happy with the description of the house, which matched reality. Thanks Claire and hopefully we will be back one day soon.

The quality of the accommodation is excellent. There seems to be nothing overlooked. It is clean, spacious and clearly well looked after. Everything you need is easily available. When you attach all this to the stunning location it is difficult to imagine a better property. I can't imagine coming to arran again and staying anywhere else.

Only 10 minutes from the ferry terminal and we arrived. The villa is well laid out and spacious having one bedroom downstairs and three upstairs this met the criteria for us travelling with extended family. A welcoming bottle of wine was very much appreciated. Having uninterrupted views was so entertaining from breakfast with low tide and the resident seal making an appearance to moonlit photo opportunities amazing! Lamlash is a beach comber’s paradise. We found everybody welcoming and approachable nothing was too much trouble. There are a few local pubs a short walk along from the villa and we had a lovely meal in the Lamlash Bay Hotel there are also plenty of coffee shops, to be honest I think you could find something to accommodate everyone. Freshly caught fish and chips from Hooked & Cooked in Brodick are well worth a visit. There are plenty of walks suitable for all ages and the scenery will never disappoint. The Isle of arran Heritage Museum is well worth a look and gave us lots of ideas on places to go and see whilst on the island. The week went so quickly and we were all sorry to leave. The Island itself is beautiful however I feel that Lamlash was definitely the best place to stay. The villa is excellent value for money even during school holidays. Overall one of the most relaxing holidays we have ever had.

The location of this property is fantastic, if there was a negative I'd say that it is right by the main road but to be fair you really don't notice it and when we first pulled in we thought oh no we are right by a building site but this was nothing to worry about as there was no work being done on the site and you are completely distracted by the wonderful view of Holy Isle straight in front of you and this is a delight even if it does rain which thankfully wasn't often for us.
Please don't let these thoughts put you off, they were our only negatives and these were only on our arrival and thought nothing of for the rest of our week there.
The property is well laid out and was perfect for our 3 generation family holiday. Everything as described and the photo's don't do it justice, a floor plan would help show just how well laid out this property is.
The owners were very friendly and helpful and any issues that arose were dealt with swiftly, none I have to say need mentioning on here.
Having never been to arran before we felt Lamlash was great with everything you need within walking distance whereas other alternatives were in the middle of nowhere which we decided we didn't want but to be fair you were never far away from anywhere by car. Brodick was really close by but too busy for our liking to stay there.
The arran food shop is a must for all visitors! We will definately be returning as there is still so much to see.
I have been recommending this place to everyone but maybe I should keep it a secret.
Look forward to booking again

Many thanks for your review Vicky. We are delighted that you enjoyed the house and the gorgeous views. We will try and get a floor plan sorted, many thanks for that suggestion.
There is indeed an empty property on our plot which is the original coastguards house for Lamlash village. The house dates back to 1800's. Phase 1 was completed at the start of the season, this involved removing the extension on the house. Phase 2 will involve the renovation. However, we can absolutely guarantee that no works will be carried out whilst we have guests and there will be most definiatley no workman turning up in the early hours. The site is completely safe meaning our guests can relax and enjoy the large lawn/play area to the front.
We very much look forward to welcoming you again,

We stayed in Marine Villa during the October school holidays. The position is perfect, opposite the sea with lovely views of Holy Island.
The house is well appointed. It has everything you could need to prepare a meal etc and is modern and comfortable. The kitchen, dining/ living area is really well planned out.
The teenagers stayed in the downstairs twin room, perfect for them to stay up late and not keep the whole house up ! They also had their own shower room which was handy.
Upstairs there are 3 rooms, 1 is a double and a bathroom. The house also has free wi fi which is a must for a teenager !
We have been to arran many times before, you cant always rely on the weather so you need to bring appropriate clothes but its okay if it rains as there's a washer, a dryer and rotary dryer in the garden.
We drove all round the Island and enjoyed deer spotting, looking for seals etc.
The Pier tavern in Lamlash was a bit of a let-down for us as in previous years we have been very satisfied. However, this year we were greeted with the strong smell of toilet blocks as we walked into the bar. We opted to dine in the dining room rather than breathe those fumes. The food was very good but the waitress left a lot to be desired being unfriendly and "rushed" despite the place being only half full.
The Brodick bar, (opposite the post office in Brodick )was a different story. The dining area, service and food were top class and we would definitely recommend this.
All in all a lovely holiday in a super house.Response from Claire - 11/10/2011

Great location overlooking the holy isle, very clean and spacious and relaxing. It had 1 x double room, 1 x twin room, 2 x single rooms. Only complaint I would have is it only has one double bed in the house but other than that it was a great stay and I hope to book it again soon :)

We spent a wonderful week during October school holidays. The location is great. Straight off the ferry, along the road and there you are. Great parking and garden for kids to play in. Picnic table for outdoor dining and benches to sit and have your morning coffee on, looking at the stunning views.
The house is beautifully finished. Nice furnishings. Bedrooms are great, nice lines and towels. Powerful shower and bath for the kids. Sitting room is lovely with big TV and DVD player for keeping kids entertained on wet afternoons. We used the central heating a few nights when it got cold and this was great too. Having the washer (and dryer ) there was great too we could do the washing before heading home avoiding, dry outside in the arran ayr, not leaving that job till we got home.
Kitchen well equipped for meal times and plenty of choice within walking distance for dining out. We took family who were over from australia with us and they loved the place and were very sorry to leave.
Top notch place. Maybe I should getting booking for next year!! -

We had such a brilliant time over Hogmanay that I had to write a review! This is such a wonderful house in the most idilic location (the views from the living room/ kitchen and bedroom are gorgeous!) There were 5 of us over New Year and it was such fun, the locals were very welcoming and the Drift Inn pub quiz is a must! The local bonfire on the beech for New Years Eve was another highlight. The house was great, very clean, cosy and welcoming, perfect location for a group wanting to have fun. Best Hogmanay in years!

We really enjoyed our stay at Marine Villa. This is a fantastic property with a terrific view of the harbour and of "Holy Island". The place was immaculate, roomy and comfortable. Sleeps a lot of people but probably more amenable to a family than several couples travelling together as there is only one double bed. Great TV and DVD, all the kitchen essentials that you could want. The only thing I might have liked is internet access although I totally realize that this is a "bonus" and certainly not a necessity. The island and the town are fantastic - we had a great time!
