INFORMATION ON THE VILLAGE OF L'AMPOLLA

L’Ampolla is a fishing village near Les Oliveres Resort and is situated on the edge of the Ebro Delta. It has been a favourite with mainland Europeans for over four decades, attracted by its quiet charm, sandy beaches, mountain backdrops and the Ebro delta. L’Ampolla is characterised by the elegant charm of its harbour and a relaxed pace of life. For the adventurous, there is boat hire and fishing, a gym to work out, bicycle hire to cycle into the delta, a municipal swimming pool with the mountains as back-drop, tennis courts, a summer season night-club and lots of sandy beaches where beach volley ball and sun tans are the order of the day.
It also hosts the gypsy market every Wednesday morning where you can find anything from a conga drum to an Arabic tapestry, from smoked traditional hams to country olives. It has a summer camp for kids every day during the summer from 10 to 1 and 4 to 7 at five euros a day.
From Les Oliveres or Cap Roig, L’Ampolla is a thirty-five minute walk by the coastline on the GR9.2 (a way-marked walk that begins in the Pyrenees and goes all the way down the coast and to Valencia). The walk winds its way past hidden coves and beaches, along cliff-tops as the turquoise Mediterranean glitters in the sunshine. It's an invigorating and scenic way to build an appetite before you can lunch in one of L’Ampolla’s many restaurants and then get the taxi home. It is true to say that L’Ampolla is famous through-out Catalonia for its sea-food so you could probably do with a little siesta after lunch.

    INFORMATION ON THE AREA

Tarragona is the capital of the area and has a Roman amphitheater as well as a thriving cultural metropolis with concerts, theater and shows. The Costa Daurada coastline itself has this wonderful mixture of inland mountains that sweep down to the coastline, with bays and inlets featuring sandy beaches and a climate that does not get oppressively hot in the summer and is temperate and mild during the Winter.
To learn about the area, perhaps visit our web page at (website: hidden) The resort is also beside the Ebro Delta, which is home to a Nature reserve protected by Unesco and it is has long been hailed as a bird watchers heaven.

ONly 15 minutes by car, Tortosa is the regional capital , a small but strikingly beautiful Medieval town, dominated by the Parador or old Castle that overlooks the old barrio or neighborhood. It laso makes for an excellent shopping destination as it has a variety of large supermarkets as carrefour as well a a lot of chic shops and cafes.

      Fantastic holiday

Left on 02/08/2013 for a stay in July 2011

We visited Les Oliveres in summer 2011 - a family of six - two kids, my husband and I, and my parents. The setting is just about perfect for a family with children - for teenagers there were 2 swimming pools about 30 metres from the end of our garden! - and for families with younger children there is also a play area. We were particularly impressed with the maintenance of the grounds with a chap coming to clean the pool every morning and check that the water was perfect. The villas are also close to a four star hotel so you have the added bonus of being able to drop in and have a meal or a coffee. They also have a great spa where a million different treats are offered.
The area is very beautiful - but you definitely need a car - out and about we visited the
lighthouse that you can see from the resort, the rice production areas, and we ventured into the mountains. Barcelona is well worth a visit from here - it is about 1 1/2 hours drive. The area is also a lot more Spanish than other resorts - something that we found particularly appealing. Eva & Adrian were quite simply fantastic - we only saw them a couple of times but they went out of their way to help us. We had a mix up with the villa key on arrival - but Eva came round to sort it out at 3am in the morning! Then when my mum was feeling ill and we were struggling with the correct Spanish, Eva very kindly came with us to the pharmacy to make sure that we got what we needed...and to top all that, the villa was beautiful - everything that you could want on holiday - rest and
      relaxation!
      We will definitely return!
