“A Haven of Peace in a crazy world” I have been going to Lamu for the past 8 years and last year discovered Forodhani House. In its perfect setting it is the ideal place to spend a holiday. The staff who welcome you are warm and full of attention while being discrete. The people in Shela are the friendliest I have met and I have travelled a lot. I am going back and can't wait to take my next sunset sail.

“Stone Town comes alive” The apendalo House is located just off the bustling heart of Lamu's Stone Town. If you are looking for easy access to the towns culture, this is the place. The house itself is a beautiful four story, Swahili style building. It is very open and airy, with great winds to cool down even the hottest of days. Additionally, Katana - your liaison for your stay - can set you up with everything, from dhow rides to specially made morning fruit juices. We would also recommend going with a hired chef. If you have a large group, this is easier, cheaper and nicer than eating out. However, take note not to confuse this part of Lamu with Shela, which is where many tourists go for beach lounging and complete tranquility. Lamu's Stone Town is a living place, which means donkeys braying and regular call to prayers from the many nearby mosques. For us, this added to the charm. And while the apendalo House is only about 30 meters from the beach, this is not a place where you can swim but instead enjoy watching the dhows being loaded and unloaded as they have for centuries.

Forodhani House, on Shela Beach, in Lamu, Kenya
Heaven on earth?

Forodhani is a Beautiful house (spell with a big "B"), cause that is how Beautiful it is. It's located on the heart of the pier of Shella. Forodhani is a place where you can come for holiday and enjoy the easy life of Lamu. The guesthouse is the first house you'll see when coming to Shella, and the last house you see in the sunset when you're leaving. Forodhani has a staff who is excellent, they treat you like a star and take care of you in every way you need. The rooms are beautiful and clean, and every morning you can wake up of the breeze from the sea. Fresh seabreeze, beautiful view and tasty breakfast made with fresh food from the local market. Forodhani is worth every penny, euro, dollar, kroner or whatever valuta you use. Forodhani is a guest house that's worth your time :)see more

Spacious yet cozy place to relax by the sea

I have already spread the word about this find! The house is gorgeous with big comfy beds with clean white sheets. The rooftop is the best feature and where we spent most of our time looking out over the sea. Katana took great care of us. He made us feel welcome from the momet we arrived at the airport. Katana's connection to the community made us feel at home, and also made planning convenient. I will stay here again the next time I'm in Lamu!see more
