    Additional Location Information

While you are here, you can enjoy Lanesboro’s fine Commonwealth Theater, shopping, Amish tours, Gator Greens MINI GOLF, dining, biking, hiking, rollerblading, kayaking, canoeing, tubing, and even horse drawn rides and jeep tours. There are 3 State parks within 45 minutes with interpretative centers and caves to explore. There is plenty to do in Bluff Country. Come stay with us for a while.

    Lanesboro
Lanesboro is a historic village nestled in the Bluffs of the Root River Valley. Experience the spectacular paved Root River State Bike Trail, winding 60 miles through Bluff Country. Excellent for biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing, it runs along towering limestone bluffs, dense hardwood forests and peaceful small towns.

Besides receiving the Great American Main Street Award, Lanesboro was named one of 100 Best Small Art Towns in America by author John Villani and one of the 50 Best Outdoor Sports Towns by Sports Afield magazine. Outside Magazine featured Lanesboro as one of the '20 Best Dream Towns in America to Live and Play.'

    Whalan
Whalan is located 4 miles East of Lanesboro, on the Historic Bluff Country National Scenic Byway. Whalan is a little town of about 35 people. The town is only 4 blocks by 4 blocks. You have the river on the one side and you are surrounded by magestic bluffs on the other 3 sides. Here you will enjoy the peace and quiet on would expect in a weekend getaway. The Root River State Bicycle trail runs right along the river and at the base of the bluffs for most of it's 60 mile trek.

    Little known adventures
Book yourself a horse drawn wagon ride. Imagine riding thru the woods overlooking the Root River Valley. Relax being at peace with the great outdoors. The scenic overlooks are like no other in the area. Explore over 100 acres of wooded private property. Horse drawn wagon rides are available year around. The rides take about an hour. Half way thru the ride, you stop at a little cabin over looking the Root River Valley, where you can warm up for the journey back. It is a must do activity.

Bluff Country Jeep Tours, another wonderful way to explore the wilderness. You are taken from the bottom of the bluff, up to the top along private trails, that allow you to truly enjoy the outdoors. We take you places that you would be glad you were not hiking...:-) The switch back trails bring you from the river bottoms up 450 feet up to one of the most spectacular views imaginable.

Amish tours are another must see. We have several Amish communities to visit, and shop with.

Great home; great location on the bike/ski trail!

Left on 05/17/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Some friends and I stayed at this beautiful restored home this winter. The location is perfect- right next to the root River trail- with gorgeous views of the river valley and surrounding bluffs. After a fun day outside, the jacuzzi was perfect. We had a great time! I'm booking my next stay while there are still a few available days. Can't wait to come back this summer to ride on the bike trail, play some mini-golf, and go tubing down the Root River!

We stayed at the Whalen house for the second time and loved it even better the second time! The updates in the house were charming and practical! The place ia totally charming and absolutely immaculate! The whole area is just wonderful vacation country. Lots to do and great people to deal with. We did the kayaking, swimming, hiking and horseback riding. The host was very helpful for finding events for us and our itinery issues. It a great place to come home to after a long day!!
