Singapore, SingaporeA Unique Experience
Left on 01/06/2013 for a stay in December 2012
When I first e-mailed to enquire about the place, the response was prompt and it was rather easy to complete the booking. The owner was also helpful in offering to help rent a car for us.
The instructions given to drive to Sunset Valley may look a little simple and odd, but it is really sufficient and following it leads us to Sunset Valley right on the spot!
The Malay houses look actually nicer than on the website and they are also surprisingly clean. Gudrun, the owner, showed us around while telling us of what we could do and what we should not do.
We had not much of a problem with bugs (not as much as we expected) and could sleep at night without air conditiion. The house itself was well equipped, hi-fi, books, cutlery. The only thing I found lacking was soap and shampoo, which was not provided.
The other negative part would be absence of housekeeping, we are there on holiday afterall, so it is quite a hassle if we have to do our own housekeeping. It might be good to at least clean the place and clear the rubbish maybe every two to three days, I feel that would really be an added bonus.
The convenience store was great. -

We stayed in the paddy house for 10 nights with our 2 young children. Unfortunately the bigger houses weren't available for the whole of our stay - we did find the paddy house a little small with the 4 of us even though our children are only young. Ria was a lovely host and helped us organize car, tours and gave advice on where to eat etc. Being in langkawi during Ramadan was a challenge as many shops and eateries were closed during the day making buying lunch somewhat difficult even in some of the tourist areas.
Sunset valley is very rural - you defiantly need a car - it is centrally located and about half an hour or less from just about everything you will want to see. There are 5 houses which are all well spaced. The houses are 'rustic' traditional type homes. Yes, there are bugs and very large geckos that come inside. You must sleep under mosquito nets. We also had a snake visit on our deck but it was soon chased away and provided some early morning excitement!
Keeping with the traditional style the houses open up and are very cool however are not particularly private. We didn't need to use the air con at all and it was hot while we stayed. Property has lovely pool area with a heap of toys for the kids to play with. Ria also found some other toys for our children to play with which was much appreciated.
Given the length of our stay I wouldve appreciated a maid service and also clean towels and sheets once during our stay. This is available if you ask for it but I didn't know that until the end of our stay. Washing can be organized for about $10aU for a large load - other places in town also offer washing services.
Overall a lovely unique place to stay that is different from the usual places and also lovely and green with beautiful vistas over the rice paddy and mountain. -

Left on 05/30/2012 for a stay in May 2012
My wife and I spent 13 days of our first ever trip to Malasia here and loved every minute. It's a great central spot to explore the island from.
We hired their car which was ..shall we say ..a little basic, the aircon was a god send tho but you will deffo need some form of transport here.
The owners RIa and andre were more than hospitable but not in an intrusive way, we spent several evenings in their interesting company and andre even had special dishes named after him in certain restaurants..yum!
We stayed in the paddy house and needed to become friendly with all manor of bug life and the resident lizards, but not in a bad way, it's a rainforest after all. The birdsong we woke to each morning was delightful.
It's a wonderful place for a totally peaceful and relaxing holiday, surrounded by paddy fields for miles. We often had the swimming pool completely to ourselves. Ria's store kitchen is a real bonus, whether for bread for breakfast or a cold beer by the pool! -

Sunset Valley is located in the centre of the island and surrounded by paddy fields, with lots of wonderful birds. It's a great location from which to explore the beaches and towns in all parts of the island - but you need a car ! Ria and andré, the owners, have lived on the island for years and are very knowledgeable and helpful about places to visit and what to buy. They create a very welcoming atmosphere among the guests. The five houses on the grounds are genuine ecological Malay houses and there is a nice swimming pool.
We had a very nice stay and I warmly recommend Sunset Valley to holiday makers who appreciate nature and cultural visits. -

Left on 10/17/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We stayed for 5 nights, two family groups and a friend, rented 3 of the houses and had a brilliant time. Once shown around by some very nice owners, we were given the run of the place. The houses were very well equipped with modern bathrooms and once we got used to the openess of the houses (most shuttered windows had no glass) it was very easy to sit back and just relax. We had no great want to rush off round the island as it was so beautifull just staying on site. The outside bar area and pool got used a great deal by kids and adults alike and was a great space to just gather and be a family. As you may have guessed - we just loved it.

SpijkenisseAdembenemende locatie
Left on 05/13/2011 for a stay in June 2010

Left on 05/12/2011 for a stay in August 2010
We stayed with four friend in one of Sunset Valley's beautiful authentic Malay houses in the middle of the rice paddies. It was very comfortable that the house had its own kitchen so that we could make breakfast and dinner with the food that we could "buy" from the central kitchen, very relaxed. We didn't have time for it but we would love to come back and watch the sunset from the nice swimming pool.

Left on 05/12/2011 for a stay in June 2010
Our stay on Sunset valley was a surprise. It's a very beautiful and quiet place on Langkawi-Island. Sunset valley is a place were you can relax by the nice and clean swimmingpool, where you can sit on your terrace or porch. There are a lot of wild animals to spot, especially in the evening. We saw flying fosters flying from tree to tree. Also with children I think it's a very nice place to stay. The Island Langkawi is very beautifull and very easy to travel by a rent car. At Sunset valley you can also rent a car. We have spent 3 nights at sunset valley and we have see a lot of the Island, but if you have more time you can stay here for more nights, because there are beautifull beaches at langkawi, we've driving north of the Island and there were very quiet beaches.
Andre and Ria welcomes you at Sunset valley, they are very hospitable and they can tell you where the hightlights of the Island are. So if you want to relax you really have to go to Sunset valley and andre and Ria will do everything to make it a nice stay for you. Enjoy!!! -

In June 2010 we have for the 3th time the last part of our vacation in Southeast asia spend at Suset Valley. What a great place! This time we stayed in the Paddy House, an authentic wooden Malay house of more than 100 years old. It is very comfortable and tastefully decorated. From the veranda you have beautiful views over the ricefields and on the Gunung Raya mountain. In the evening watch the sun go and see the sky colors, it is impressive. Here we find the rest to recover from our tours.
Ria & André, the owners, are very hospitable. They do everything to make your stay at Sunset Valley and Langkawi unforgettable. The are also very interested in your personal life and to your travel experiences. For them you are no guest, but rather a friend who is visiting. On Sunset Valley is also quick contact with other guest. Wich each other, on the edge of the swimming pool, with a drink, enjoy the sunset. What can life pleasant.
For Ria & André personal: thank you very much for your hospitality and good care. we come back again soon. We feel at home on Sunset Valley. -

Amazing location, we loved it and couldn’t stop taking pictures of the surroundings. We found ourselves in a perfectly relaxing atmosphere, with great views of the ricefields.
The rooms were excellently serviced and certainly atmospheric. The owners, Ria and andre, are great hosts, very welcoming and helpful.
Overall we had 2 wonderful nights at Sunset Valley (Farmer’s House) and would suggest it for a truly relaxing holiday in a traditional Malay house. -

Our trip to Sunset Valley was the highlight of our trip in asia.
A perfect combination of an outright marvelous location, the warmth of andre en Ria and the very nice accommodation makes you never want to leave. This is one of the places on this planet of which the photos can never look so good as the actual scenery.
Langkawi has much to offer such as great food and beautiful nature and Sunset Valley is something you don't want to miss.
Be sure to visit this place if you ever visit Langkawi!
