Description from the owner
Sharon's Cottage is a charming, well-appointed cottage with an open design featuring well-equipped kitchen, dining room and living room. A cozy gas stove and a wall of north-facing windows allow good lighting even on cloudy northwest days. The one bedroom has a king-sized, pillow top bed, plus a sleeping loft open to the first floor offers additional accommodations. Double french doors lead to a spacious deck with views of passing boats and whales. The cottage is decorated in cheery colors reminiscent of a French country cottage, complete with hand painted decor. Pine plank floors from New Hampshire add warmth.

Cottage has a good floor plan and partial view of water, but is land locked amongst other homes and "private roads" which you're instructed not to walk on as "renters". So a good place to stay if you have continuous daily plans, not involving the cottage. Forget a nice walk during the day or after dinner. You are confined to the deck and cottage grounds only.
The cottage itself has a nice floor plan and easily accomodates your visit. However the cottage requires some much needed attention (tender loving care). Linens and pillows are old and musty. Couch, chair and ottoman are faded, stained and severely lacking comfort. They need replaced as they've been very heavily used. Same for the living room rug which is old, stained and looks dirty. Could be easily replaced with a $69 rug from Wal-Mart.
Tv is horrible. At night it's nice to catch a show or two, watch the debates and also watch local news. But it's a 13" with a VCR. Vcr? How outdated. We couldn't even rent a DVD from Red Box. Unacceptable in 2012, especially considering DVD players can be purchased for $30 and good tv's have come down in price significantly. Furniture would accomodate a much larger TV easily.
Cottage upstairs was not clean nor beds made up when we arrived. Bathroom lacks a curtain on the window. Wow!
Also no one had even turned on the air nor a light to invite us upon our arrival. The cottage was closed, dark and musty.
We rented another FlipKey cottage during our week vacation in Washington and had a totally different experience...a good one. This cottage needs better management and some investment to bring it on par with others. -

This was our base for our stay on Whidbey Island. The island is small and can be navigated quite easily. We stayed for three nights. Each day we visited various places. There are larger cities up the island with more shopping opportunities if that is important to you. We shopped for food before we took the ferry to the island.
We got up early on the departure day to drive to anacortes to get the ferry to Friday Harbor.
