Description from the owner
Beach House Walrus is a family-run, luxury home on the first line of beachfront properties of Playa Bonita, near Las Terrenas, the Dominican Republic. The bay of Playa Bonita - literally translated "beautiful beach" - is a uniquely untouched area in the Samana Peninsula. This bay overlooks three rocky islets protruding from the depths of the ocean resembling whales (also a deep sea diving area). This double take is appropriate since the Samana Bay on the other side of the peninsula from Las Terrenas is popular for whale-watching. Mainly humpback whales tend to mate and breed here in the season of January through early April.

Additional Location Information
Nearest airports: Samana el Catey 30 min. and Santo Domingo 1,5 hour drive.
If you walk to the right on the beach from the Walrus, you reach Hotel Acaya www.acaya-hotel-fr.com another stunning hotel with a diving center and restaurant. Playa Bonita visitors are lucky, because all of the hotels in the bay do not accommodate heavy/mass tourism - a chance to relax on a very isolated beach. The bay also includes varied depths of water. One edge of the bay has more waves and depth, ideal for surfers particularly in the months of November - March. Other water areas of the bay are more shallow and placid, perfect for those with young swimmers or looking to snorkel.
To the left of the Walrus, another neighbour hotel, Hotel Atlantis www.atlantis-hotel.com.do boasts a restaurant of wonderful French cuisine and accommodation. Atlantis's website includes a section on the bay of Playa Bonita with very good pictures.
Besides the paradisical isolation one finds in Playa Bonita, the town of Las Terrenas is only twenty minutes away. This town has anything you might need, from supermarkets, to French specialist butchers and bakers, to four-wheel motorcycle rental, to shops, more restaurants, and fun nightlife. Because to be fair, you cannot stay in Las Terrenas without having sun set cocktail drinks at Le Mosquito, danced bachata on the beach in the pueblo de los pescadores (fisherman's town) or listened to live mambo at La Habana.
