“Pleasant rural escape from the city” I had the opportunity to stay at Wihakowi Campground for three nights in april of this year. The sign leading to Camp Wihakowi clearly states “Bed and Breakfast – You Make Both” – the owner’s sense of humor is endearing. The owners did not hover around but were often seen working about the campground. They were very friendly and always asked if there was anything I needed. I stayed in the “Hemlock” cabin”, which was both comfortable and charming. It was nicely decorated in a rustic manner with comfortable furniture. The fridge was stocked with locally grown eggs, locally baked bread, juice and other items needed to prepare myself a delicious breakfast. The cabinets were stocked with any cooking utensils, dishes, etc. that might be needed. The cabin had a separate bedroom with a bathroom and shower. Towels and linens were clean and available. The bed was very comfortable and afforded a good night’s sleep every night of my stay. The cabin had a deck on the back with patio furniture where I could sit outside, enjoy the beautiful view and listen to a mountain stream. Wireless internet was provided and utilized without problem. I was pleasantly surprised that cell phone reception was very good for being in a mountainous area. The campground has multiple cabins for various uses. There was a troop of Girl Scouts that stayed in a bunkhouse one of the nights I was there, but no noise traveled to my cabin and I was not disturbed in the least. If you are looking for a pleasant rural escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, Wihakowi Campground is for you!

“Comfortable stay with minor issues” The home was cozy and nice -- the large dining table and open layout were great. We did have two issues. One was with the hot water and water pressure. Management was quick to send some to address the problem but the water temperature of the upstairs bathroom was still variable afterwards. Also, information provided indicated that the long, steep driveway would be plowed but it was not. The number provided to contact the plowing service was incorrect and it took some effort to find the correct number. However, the driveway was cleared and well-sanded early the next morning before we needed to head out. In the future, I would appreciate that basics like water pressure and temperature be checked prior to us checking in. All in all, I would stay again.

“Great home away from home!” This was our family's first real vacation! We weren't sure what to expect as we've stayed in many hotels over the years for conferences we've attended. We really wanted a home instead of a hotel. We were so pleased with this property! We were able to have our dog which was a huge blessing for us. The location was perfect for us! It was remote, but still close to everything. We were wIthin 10-15 minutes from many different amenities. We enjoyed our coffee on the porch every morning and every evening! The view was beautiful too!

“Relaxing and cozy” My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon, and the barn was a great get-away. It was clean, with great high ceilings, nice wood floors, a full kitchen, a nice living room with tv and books. Our host and hostess at the main B&B; were lovely and cooked delicious breakfasts with extra baked treats. We had a wonderful stay!

“Beautiful place!” We stayed here in late June. The condo was clean and cozy. We especially loved sitting by the fireplace at night with a glass of wine after hanging out in the hot tub. We hiked, ate in some great restaurants and went to the Stowe Wine and Food Classic. Great Vacation!

About Vermont

Vermont is an ultimate New England experience, with its fields of wild flowers, countless lakes and precious covered bridges. For what it lacks in people (it is the second least populated state in the union), it makes up in style. With a minimal amount of commercial chains of shops and restaurants, and formidable sense of outdoor adventure, Vermont vacations are one of a kind.

The Green Mountains that wind their way around the state paint a brilliant backdrop for admiring the tranquility that rests beneath the trees there. With distinct culinary productions like maple syrup, cheeses and microbreweries covering the state, Vermont offers world-class tastes served with a friendly, down-to-earth attitude.

Some of the areas you will want to discover include:

  • Burlington: This eclectic city is the most populated one in the state, and it etches a permanent smile onto the faces of its residents. A visit here is a fun way to kick back, catch a concert and enjoy some art. The city boasts a great shopping scene, vibrant nightlife and a mile-long promenade where you can take relaxing scenic strolls.
  • Ski Areas: The skiing in Vermont is some of the best in New England. With mountains like Stowe, Killington and Jay Peak, the chance to frolic down the snowy slopes of these natural wonders is one that should not be passed up.
  • Bennington: This city is located in south Vermont and features the majestic Green Mountain National Forest, which offers a myriad of outdoor opportunities for hikers and wildlife lovers. Other attractions here include the Bennington Museum/Grandma Moses Schoolhouse, the Bennington Battle Monument and the Park-McCullough House, an exquisite 19th-century Victorian mansion.
  • Lake Champlain: This natural beauty and its environs are a must-see part of Vermont. Named for the 17th-century French explorer Samuel de Champlain, the lake and its islands are a breathtaking sight. The farms and towns found in the rolling Champlain Valley are definitely worth a visit. The towns are known for their country stores, galleries, museums and area outlet shopping.
  • Shelburne: This town is hot spot for families. Its major attractions include the Shelburne Farms, where kids can milk cows and pick eggs, and the Vermont Teddy Bear Company, which offers onsite tours of how these stuffed treasures are created.
  • St. Johnsbury: This town showcases the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium and the Maple Grove Museum. The latter is great spot for those who love sweets since it offers guided tours of the maple candy factory highlighted by a tasting of maple syrup treats and candies.

There are so many great adventures that await travelers to the Green Mountain State. Vermont ski resorts are a big draw for those who love to "catch the powder," and Vermont campgrounds attract nature lovers of all kinds. Couples love the picturesque backdrop of the mountains and lush greenery, so Vermont romantic getaways are a popular pick for them.

It does not matter what you head to Vermont for because once you are ready to unwind from your adventures, you can always find a vacation rental that will suit your needs. Whether it is a wood-side cabin near the mountains or a condo in downtown Burlington, Vermont has something for everyone.

The "Okemo House" at Trailside - Walk to Okemo Ski Lifts! Private 5 bedroom home
Almost perfect stay

Okemo house is situated on Okemo mountain. Be prepared to climb some steep hills (But, then, this is Vermont!). The house was roomy, but a little creaky. Still, alot of updates, like kitchen, windows and bathroom. You are surrounded by woods, so it's very quiet, but you may also encounter unwanted wildlife (racoon finding a way past weights on trash lids. Kind of fun to watch!) Overall a nice stay, not far from shops, hikes and other attractions.see more
Spectacular Water Views From Every Room ~ Directly On Lake Hortonia, Vt.
Beautiful home on Lake Hortonia

We had a wonderful week at Pointe of View on the shores of Lake Hortonia. The weather was great and the location was almost unbeatable. A very comfortable, spacious home with a perfect deck where we spent many hours relaxing, reading, watching the birds and chipmunks and enjoying the view of the lake, which almost surrounds you on the point. The house includes everything you could want from a great selection of books and games to the dock, the rowboat, the fire pit and croquet. We brought a full week's worth of groceries and appreciated the spacious fridge. We grilled almost every evening and enjoyed eating out on the deck. The only negatives were the water, which is very sulfurous, with a strong odor, and the mice, which seemed very active in the kitchen. We lost a bag of potato chips to the little critters when they chewed a hole in the bag! Definitely plan on bringing lots of bottled water with you for drinking and even cooking. Overall we would highly recommend this home for a family vacation.see more
