Additional Location Information
At the heart of the Massif des Aravis, in the SAVOIE MONT-BLANC area, ideally located between Lake Annecy and Switzerland, Le Grand-Bornand is a really charming village, which is alive throughout the year. The Aravis range forms a splendid backdrop, dominated, at 2750 metres, by la Pointe Percée, the figurehead of the range, from where the smooth, verdant, wooded slopes tumble down towards the village.
The rural district spreads over two areas: at 1000 metres, is Le Grand-Bornand Village, a typical savoyard village with, its village square, its church and its shops set against the beautiful Bouchet Valley at the foot of the Aravis range, a popular area for cross-country skiing.
Six kilometres higher up, Le Grand-Bornand Chinaillon, departure point for the alpine ski slopes, stretches out along the road to La Colombière Pass at an altitude of 1300metres. The old village (Vieux Village), dating back to the 17th century remains intact.
As well as its location at two different altitudes, the old farming traditions sit well with the more modern aspects of a ski resort. The ski resort has evolved in harmony with the natural environment and the agricultural heritage of the area with over 400 hundred year old chalets giving a particularly traditional feel to Le Grand-Bornand.
