Casa Idrisi - 2 Bedrooms - Sleeps 4: Beautifully restored and well-equipped family house in fabulous location with many thoughtful details and full of character. This is an attractive, comfortable and sensibly priced property offering a great value family destination. The large terrace, top floor living room and master bedroom enjoy stunning airy views of the surrounding Sierras and Rio Santo Gorge. Historic Granada,the Alhambra Palace), the beaches of the Costa Tropical and the Alpujarras are about 40km away. There are fantastic walks, local horse riding, fishing and cycling in the Valley and beaches, water parks, golf, water sports and skii...ng nearby.

The Lecrin valley has been described in the Independent as one of the loveliest locations in the country, American Vogue has just described it as the “new Tuscany”, and it offers a window on the real Spain while still offering everything the holidaymaker needs - bank, shops, restaurants, bars. Some local restaurants and tapas bars open up lovely swimming pools for the use of customers in the summer. There are also hot springs at Alhama and La Malaha.

The village of Albunuelas is picturesque and set in a beautiful location. The village is surrounded by orange and lemon orchards, which give the Valley a lush green appearance all year round and has a restaurant, shops and tapas bars within strolling distance. Casa Idrisi has been refurbished with authentic details such as the traditional beamed ceilings and hand-made tiles from the area, as well as invisible comforts such as good showers with plentiful hot water.

The house is named after Europe's first mapmaker the Moor Al Idrisi - whose route took him through Albunuelas and along much of what is now the great GR7 walk from Algeciras to Istanbul. You can walk a little of this route almost from the doorstep of the house. Or if you prefer to relax with a glass of something on the lovely terrace - you can soak up the views and watch the eagles soaring over the Rio Santo Gorge.

Casa Idrisi has 2 double bedrooms - 1 double master suite and a second suite which can be made up as a twin or a double. It is an "upside-down" house with living room at top to take advantage of the fabulous views in three directions from the windows and balcony. The living room also has a wood-burning stove for atmosphere in winter. Fans are provided in summer.

Casa Idrisi is situated next door to our 1 bedroomed cottage La Joya (sleeping up to 4 with sofabed) and these properties can be rented out together to larger parties if desired. Car access is not possible to the house, but it is possible to park in the square nearby.

We can put you in touch with people offering Spanish lessons, tapas tours of Granada, tours of the Albaicin, wine and food tasting of local specialities, walking trips, cycle tours, rock climbing, paragliding or courses in painting, cookery, flamenco. The village of Albuñuelas is picturesque, overlooking the Rio Santo gorge. There are many lovely walks along and around the valley, which is surrounded by orange, lemon and olive groves giving it a lush green appearance all the year round. There are three shops, a bank, a pharmacy and medical centre, and it is visited by bread and fish vans daily from which you can purchase fresh goods. The village has four tapas bars and a simple restaurant. You can find other restaurants in the nearby villages of Melegis and Restobal.

  Situated in albunuelas, this lovely house has superb views looking down the lecrin valley either from the roof terrace or from the living area with its floor to ceiling balcony. The house is situated in the lower barrio which has beautiful but steep little roads down to the house. The house itself gives a real rustic feel both in terms of colour and furniture and has all the basic stuff required for north Europeans who want to get a feel of an area untouched by modern life. The village has some basic facilities (bank, bread shop, a couple of ‘corner shop’ supermarkets and a bar that serves good but basic food). However, being in a working agricultural village you will hear the typical early noises of donkeys and dogs. In terms of location, this is an excellent spot both locally (the GR7 walk is just below the house and you can explore the valley from this) or to visit Granada (30 mins by car) or the coast (40 mins).
  I would suggest that this is an ideal house for couples or families (who are reasonably fit) who want to get as close as possible to a quite agricultural area but also want to visit the major sites of Granada and the coast.
