This was the second time we have stayed at Coconut Grove. It was just as wonderful this time around. It is up high enough to have great views and a breeze yet close enough to the marina that taking a walk is not a chore. The grounds are beautifully maintained. The pool table on the deck and hot tub were favorites for our teen age children. I was a fan of the pool and taking in the views of the north sound from the deck. The kitchen appliances were new and in good order. The maid service was prompt, consistent and friendly. The only disappointment was the water pressure in the showers at times. All in all I cannot imagine a more relaxing place to stay. I recommend it highly.

I am a little hesitant to write this review because it will tip others off about one of our favorite places in the world. Let me begin by saying the pictures do not do this property justice. This place is fabulous. You cannot capture how wonderful it is in a picture. You must see it.
The house sits about two tenths of a mile from the little town of Leverick Bay. As you walk in the main entrance, you enter the pool area. Immediately, you feel the tension you arrived with dissolve. We have rented this villa three times. I can only hope for another stay.
This beautiful home is located in our favorite area of Virgin Gorda. Virgin Gorda is still very quiet. It is not a cruise ship port. The locals are gracious and accommodating. The owner of this property lives on the island and is available to assist you with both expected and unexpected requests. She is down to earth, practical, creative, knowledgable about the area and always willing to assist. (When we were there, she reserved our rental car, had the pool man cut open fresh coconuts the girls and I requested, met us at the dock when we arrived, replaced a screen door we had damaged and grappled with our technological issues.) She manages to graciously offer assistance while also respecting your privacy. As I think back on my stay there, I think it is fair to say, this house is accessible for those with disabilities.
We prefer the house in Leverick Bay over houses in other developments on the island because the breeze is constant, you have all-day access to the sun, the small town is a short walk away, and the view is unrivaled. From the deck you can see Saba Rock, Bitter End and, on a clear night, Anagada.
We prefer to cook dinner at the house in the amazingly well-equipped kitchen. The store downtown (a bit over a football field away) has limited, but high quality provisions. They serve the sailing and yachting crowd. The prices are a bit steep, relative to what we pay in the states, but it's vacation! Also downtown is a dive shop where you can rent snorkeling or diving equipment, a branch of the famous Pussers, a small gift shop, a tiny, but wonderful spa, an expensive restaurant we have never tried and a casual outdoor dining spot where my girls ate pizza at night sometimes. We all grab a fruit punch there periodically.
We have never found many restaurants on the island to which we are committed but we do enjoy calling for the free shuttle boat from Saba Rock, having them pick us up from the dock downtown and going over to Saba Rock for lunch.
There is also a free ferry that leaves from Gun Creek, just over the hill, and will take you to Bitter End for a day adventure. The famous Baths are about twenty minutes away and the hike to the top of Virgin Gorda is a "must do." We have eaten at the restaurant at the top of the Baths. Beautiful view. Pretty good food. There is also a fresh water pool at the restaurant to swim in while you wait for your food.
The house is perfectly situated for all these adventures and houses the activity for the return home: a large pool. The pool is one of the largest ones on the island. It is big enough for swimming a few laps and stocked with floatation devices that allow you to read in the pool. During the day, one side of the pool is always shaded by the fabulous property garden and the other side is always sunny. You can moderate your sun exposure. The pool has steps and a shallow end that is great for younger kids.Years ago, our younger daughter perfected her swimming there. There is also a shelf build into the deeper end of the pool where you can sit and just stay cool, with drink in hand. This year, we returned to find a new deck with a hot tub. At night, the deck or the pool area are amazing places for seeing falling stars.
Usually, we have very little trouble with insects. We dine on the wrapping porch, overlooking the bay filled with sailboats, ferries and local traffic. We have always felt safe on Virgin Gorda. There are safes in the rooms and we use them, but we have never been given any reason to question our safety or security.
The rooms are all clean and comfortable. The master bedroom is in the main house. (Large bed and a single bed/couch in it.) Our favorite rooms are the two "lock outs" by the pool. All bedrooms are air conditioned and all have a fabulous private bath with the room. They are favorites because you can sleep or relax in those rooms without interruption. Usually, one of our daughters stays in the master. There are also two large rooms downstairs. They look extremely comfortable, but we have never used them.
The main house is open, inviting, immaculate and rather magnificant. There is a sitting area with a television, DVD player and even a VCR. The owner has a pretty extensive and diverse DVD library. We usually pack a few of our favorites and end up watching hers. There are also many books all over the house. Many mysteries and thrillers, so if that is your pleasure, don't bother carrying books down to the islands.
We love to approach the island on the North Sound Express. Our best option is to fly into Beef Island and then take the small ferry to the dock just down from the house. The ferry dock (on the Beef Island side is less than one half mile from the airport.) If she knows when you are coming, the owner will meet you at the dock in virgin Gorda. If you are going on the North Sound Express, call and make a reservation before you leave home.
Coconut Grove is a quiet getaway. If you are looking for lots of action, this is probably not your ideal destination. If you want to wind down and relax in paradise, you might want to give it a try. If you book the week I want before I get a chance, I will regret having written this review.
