It's a Place that Attracts Happiness!

Locals know about the historic Bare Farm and its beloved Cabin on the River.

Many a wedding party has bumped down the road to witness vows below its stained glass windows.

There have been festivities, a time or two. Some folks tell the story of a dog that went tubing and a grandmother who parked herself on a lawn chair in the river to watch.

There was a grandfather who danced till dawn, went home to feed the cows and hurried back to catch the last song.

Some say laughter still echoes through the trees.

Just three miles from historic Lexington, Va., the Bare Farm Ca...bin sits alone, 75 yards from the Maury River, on a 250 acre horse farm.

The cabin sleeps six or more adults, with two full sized beds in one room, a queen size in the other, and a sleep sofa in the main room.

Children enjoy the loft with it's king size mattress on the floor.

There's a fully equipped kitchen facing a stone fireplace in the large main room.

For entertaining any number of your own guests, there's a separate screened room, affectionately known as "Frances' Folly," but that's another story.....

There are old iron beds and hand made quilts. There's a glider on the porch where you might want to sit in the mornings to drink you coffee and watch the fog rise off the river.Read more

Additional Location Information

The cabin is located on the far side of a 250 acre horse farm, one mile from the nearest house, and 75 yards from the Maury River. There are about six miles of trails to hike and explore. The river is right there, to fish, tube, canoe, swim or just sit beside with a good book. And then there is the glider on the porch....and the hammock in a grove of trees...

  This authentic log cabin has a beautiful view of the river and mountains. The huge screened in porch is great for dining. There is a sleeping porch with a tin roof if you are lucky enough to have early morning rain. My 3 grandgirls loved going pass the horse stables. The 2 bedrooms plus loft certainly give plenty of room for a larger family if needed. Buena Vista is minutes away and good grocery shopping. This is a great place to visit Lexington area. It is an hour's drive to Jefferson & Monroe mansions but scenery is lovely getting there. So much to see and do in the area but you really deserve yourself a treat just to enjoy the cabin, river and trails.

  River, solitude, Frances' Folley & Cabin are a small slice of He

  We are approaching our fourth year of staying at Bare Farm Cabin. We love it! The large screened porch (France's Folley) with ample seating for at least 15 is the perfect venue for our traditional family reunion that is centered around our family's church homecoming. The cabin is well appointed and even has window a/c units if needed. The kids love sleeping up in the loft! Bring your kayaks, fishing gear and water toys for lazy days on the Maury.
  
  The Nuckols family takes great pride in assuring that we are comfortable and have everything we need. We will be coming back, year after year, as long as the Nuckols allow! A lovely family offering this beautiful gem of a cabin is not often found. You'll be glad you came.
