Description

Stonecutter's cabin (c. mid 1800's), located 4 miles from downtown Lexington, is our largest, most modernized historic log cabin. Situated in its own private glen with an acre of mowed meadow, this recently remodeled cabin was renovated with a great room addition as well as two fireplaces and a wrap around veranda for comfortable living. Made of hand-hewn chestnut logs, it is a preferred cabin for total seclusion, peace and tranquility. Small gatherings are permitted here with prior approval.

The 850 sq ft Great Room with two walls of windows, a river stone floor-to-ceiling fireplace, double entry glass doors opening to a private back deck give the feeling of being very far away from the busy life. From either of the two couches or in oversized chairs with ottomans, you'll enjoy views on all sides.

The Dining Room, with another fireplace, seats six and can host 20 with buffet service. Dishes/silverware provided. The modern kitchen features stainless steel appliances and poured-in-place concrete counter top. Sleeping accommodations are an overhead suite with a queen sized bed and sitting area for one/two adults... perfect for a romantic getaway or for the host of a gathering. Two guests maximum. Not suitable for children. No pets.

Stonecutter's cabin is bordered by a natural amphitheater in a large limestone sinkhole with mature walnuts, cherries and dogwoods. A small sculpture garden, a secluded meditation space and a gazebo for meditation and yoga are in the planning to help complete the sanctuary envisioned by your hosts, Antonia and Barney. A Meso-American pysmidal stone ‘love-seat" , built by the stonemason who lived there, has acted as the altar for small weddings and renewal of vows.

Enjoy the sitting verandas with its Adirondack chairs while you watch the sunrises and sunsets listening to the birds and watching the wildlife. In the nighttime you may see the Milky Way and more stars than you have seen in a long time! A short walk up to the farm's highest hilltop will take you to the modern day labyrinth & a stunning 360 degree view of both mountain ranges. This is not to be missed! Across the entry road is the 7 mile Chessie Trail with much walking along the Maury River, cow pasture and rock cliffs.

Only 4 miles from historic downtown Lexington and its universities are excellent restaurants, shopping, and art galleries; close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia Horse Center and an Appalachian Trail head.

Make this your first choice for a return to a slower more relaxed pace of country life! You won't be disappointed.

We are a self catering retreat property with contactless check-in. Unless someone is present when you pick up the info packet with driving directions and cabin key. it is unlikely you will meet us, unless of course you wish to do so. We live on these 250 acres. The hayfields are harvested 2-3x per year, grass mowed during the season… we value your privacy. We are a phone call away.
