This property is ideal for a large group or two or three families. Large rooms, several bathrooms, plenty of parking and a garden. The location was ideal for us being just a couple of minutes walk to the Market Place in Leyburn. Adult orientated and yet child friendly. Very clean and well equipped with lots of interesting books and pictures throughout. Owners friendly, helpful and accommodating. If you stay here you will not be disappointed.

Spent a lovely long weekend here with family for our daughters christening. The house has a lovely welcoming, warm, home from home feeling to it. Very well equipped with added extras such as fresh flowers and homemade cake! Very accommodating couple too, would love to stay again and would recommend to friends.

A wonderful weekend break with perfect weather. The booking process and personal approach was exceptional.
Alex greeted us on arrival and made us very welcome, even though we had arrived early.
The fresh flowers, milk, eggs, cheese, cake, tea etc were lovely touches. Plenty of supplies too such as kitchen roll, loo rolls, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, shower gel and liquid soap. The kitchen boasts a large range cooker, large fridge, loads of crockery and you can not want for any kitchen utensil ...just what is needed for a property of this size. Very clean throughout and very comfortable beds. We've stayed in numerous properties over the years and this has to be one of the best. All in all a lovely homely property in an superb location. -

GloucestershireRelaxing week in lovely house
Left on 08/26/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Wensleydale House gave us a wonderful relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings. We had a lovely welcome, with local cheese, eggs, cake and milk. The house was very comfortable with four bedrooms, 2 of which are ensuite, and a further bathroom on the 3rd floor and downstairs toilet. Large table seats 10 easily and 3 very comfy sofas. With free Wi-fi 4 televisions, 3 dvds and a cd players ,it meant that the 4 adults and 3 teenagers could all enjoy their week away although the 1000 piece jigsaw kept us occupied! It is walking distance to Leyburn centre which had plenty of places to eat, as well as walking distance to steam railway. Easy drive to Middleham for the horses, and 4 miles from Forbidden corner. Would recommend Wensleydale house as it is so well equipt, whilst still been relaxing and homely.

PickeringHeavenly Honeymoon with the kids!
Left on 08/11/2012 for a stay in August 2012
The day we arrived we were greeted by alex who showed us around and gave us some top tips about things to do in the area. Waiting for us there was a cake, some milk, half a dozen eggs and some lovely Wensleydale cheese with cranberries. We had fresh flowers on the mantelpiece and there was tea and coffee in the tins and cupboard. The house looks exactly like it does in the photos, simply beautiful; tastefully decorated, very homely and spacious. The house has such a lovely feeling to it, we all felt at ease, comfortable and relaxed. Our children settled there so well, no bad dreams, no calling out in the night. They loved their rooms and their 'floor,' the den of toys was well received and the added excitement of having a dvd player in one of their rooms was indeed a holiday treat. I was mesmerised by Denise's artwork on the walls around the house. The Wuthering Heights pictures on the wall going up to the children's floor were wonderful. It was great that we could buy cards with her artwork on to take home. The old pictures and photographs were lovely too. I'm sure we'd all admit to being captivated by the artwork in the house. Another excellent feature of the house is the information that is available. So many ideas for days out! The guide books for many of the nearby attractions meant that we were well informed about the places. The facilities were simply excellent, we didn't want for a single thing. The rooms were all very clean and comfortable, perfectly decorated with excellent design features. It was an amazing place to stay in every single way. We felt as though we were miles away from everything, but we were only a short stroll away from some fantastic shops and eateries and beautiful scenery. Even the neighbours were lovely and friendly. So all in all I'd say that if you were to book here, you'd have the best holiday, just don't book when we want to go please!

This house is stunning, with beautiful bedrooms, bathrooms and a great room for getting together with friends and family. As previous reviews advise, the thoughtful touches by the owners and their attention to detail is amazing. Like being in your own (luxury) home and everything you need there...with supermarkets close by for anything you need. Would love to visit again.

Left on 10/04/2011 for a stay in October 2011
We had a fabulous time at Wensleydale House - from the warm hospitality of the owners(who were completely unphased by our arrival as a hen party - albeit a cultured one!),to the beautifully decorated rooms, abundance of character and charm, great location and attention to detail such as providing fresh flowers. The house is really a home from home - so well equipped and the rooms very comfortable. The large living/dining room is great for large groups relaxing together with ample sofa seating for everyone. Wensleydale House provides the perfect base for exploring the Dales, within very close distance from a number of beauty spots, recognised walks and attractions. Excellent value for money too. A stay here is thoroughly recommended.
Thank you. -

UKThird visit to our favourite Dales retreat
Left on 05/22/2011 for a stay in April 2011
This was the 3rd visit to Wensleydale House in the last couple of years. Prior to our visit they helpfully provided lots of local information on taxis/places to eat and as in previous years a warm welcome was received from Denise and alex on arrival, with homemade cakes and milk etc to get us started. The accommodation looked as fresh and well maintained as from our first visit 3 years ago, immaculate paintwork and beautifully designed rooms, but still feels comfy and like your own home so you can relax amongst cosy cushions and rugs. We were here for a family get together so having the 3 bathrooms plus a downstairs loo came in very handy for our group. Location is great, so much to do in Leyburn itself with lovely evening strolls along the shawl and other longer walks nearby. We ate at the Blue Lion which was a five minute drive away - it was delicious but rather pricy and had we realised that the Sandpiper Inn was just as good and very similar menu, only a 2 min walk away in Leyburn centre, then we probably would have gone there instead, although have never tried it. Highly recommended and looking forward to making this house a regular family venue for get togethers in future.

Can't rate this place highly enough. A warm welcome from the owners, very comfortable, clean, tastefully decorated, 4 bedroomed holiday 'cottage'. Lots of tourist information and loads to do within a half hour drive. The village itself is just a couple of minutes stroll away and has more than enough shops and amentities.

Wensleydale House is a great family house with lots of attention to detail and very welcoming and helpful owners just next door. There is loads of bedroom space, several bathrooms and easy parking for 3 or so cars, which makes a family group stay much easier! It offers terrific value for money for a 4 star-awarded holiday property. The location in Leyburn gives the best of both worlds - on the edge of the Dales with access to great walks but with the advantage of being in a market town with amenities, shops and good pubs/restaurants. Highly recommended.

From the pristine bathrooms to the well- equipped kitchen this was a super location and property for a large group to stay in. If you like the outdoors and would enjoy walking/ pottering in the dales it was perfect. Very comfortable beds / three bathrooms / double range cooker with excellent pans and equipment - superb! Very well furnished and plenty of games, walk books, ideas on the area. We had a long weekend and even though the weather was variable the experience of staying in Wensleydale House was relaxing and welcoming. Denise even thought of fresh cake, eggs and other goodies to welcome you! The village of Leyburn has very good eating and pubs - in all an experience to be repeated!

Left on 11/30/2010 for a stay in November 2010
Some of our company have been enjoying self-catering holidays and breaks for over 30 years. In all that time we have never experienced a dwelling to 'touch' Wensleydale House.
Its rooms are spacious and well furnished. The main room seats the full complement comfortably on three large sofas. That same room contains every relaxing diversion one could want, books, mags, TV, videos, Dvds, radio. If the weather were inclement throughout one's stay, the room would keep one perpetually occupied.
Bedrooms are spacious and beds most comfortable.
Children have plenty of space at the top of the house. There are times when one has completely forgotten them, which suits them fine!
The kitchen provides plenty of storage space and all the equipment one could need in terms of crockery, cutlery and gadgetry and cooking facilities.
The central heating and hw boiler is conveniently situated near the kitchen and its workings fully explained. Guests have full control of it during their stay. It does its job very well indeed.
Wensleydale house is situated a few hundred yards from the centre of the lovely, busy market town of Leyburn with all its attractions. It is an excellent starting point for visits to the rest of Wensleydale and, indeed, to adjacent dales as well.
Denise and alex Pearson clearly love making space and comfort for visitors to their county, dale, town and home.
They never intrude but they are always closeby and available. Commenting on the house my daughter remarked, 'This place is luxurious but, more important, it is welcoming, homely and relaxing.

The house was very tastefully furnished and decorated and we felt very comfortable and at home. It was brilliant to find childrens' toys provided as well as cds and dvds for the grown-ups. We stayed with a party of 8 adults and 2 children and the 3 bathrooms and 1 extra toilet made it easy for everyone. The huge dining room with sofas and dining table provided enough space to sit everyone comfortably for meals and conversation. Leyburn was a great location to explore the Dales from and a lovely market town too. The owners were very nice and friendly people and everything about the house indicated how thoughtful they were. We had a brilliant stay and would definitely recommend the house to you!

Couldn't fault the welcome, from an early access to cakes, cheese, milk and eggs on arrival. Very friendly owners, house large, welcoming, warm and comfortable. Lots of information and ideas for walks and outings. Immense care taken with furnishings and fittings to maintain the character of the house. Lovely children's bedroom with toys, books, games and den. It was good to return to after good walks in the area.

We really enjoyed our week at Wensleydale House. It is a delightful place to stay, more home than house with so many thoughtful touches including fresh flowers, a wide range of CDs and Dvds and an abundance of leaflets, maps and guides to the area. There are wonderful views from the bedroom windows.
The owners are very friendly and helpful. Finding tea, coffee, milk, cakes and Wensleydale cheese on arrival was a treat. The kitchen is well equipped for family cooking (there were seven of us). We really appreciated being able to walk into Leyburn where we enjoyed two excellent meals. There's plenty to do and see without travelling very far. We certainly hope to return in the future.

A beautiful home in a stunning location.
All our needs were catered for from the moment we arrived. Denise and Alex couldn't do enough to help, a welcome pack including home baked cakes, cheese and fresh flowers. There were also DVD's CD's and childrens games provided and every guide imaginable to help plan days out.
The house is in a wonderful location, minutes from Leyburn which has numerous restaurants and pubs and also within a hour of York, Harrogate and surrounding area.
There isn't anything I could fault about the accomodation

We have just returned from Wensleydale House for a family get-together for the the second time. The house is amazing, comfy, warm and well-equipped and situated in the centre of this small country town with all amenities. We loved all the little extras you so kindly thought of including the welcoming cakes. In fact we couldn't wish for anything better. It is suitable for adults and children and the grandchildren loved their bedroom including the toy den. We give Wensleydale House our highest recommendation for the young or old and for either a short or long stay and we have now booked again for our third visit.

Hi! There
The only down side to this wonderful break, is that we only had 4 days, need I say more.
But I feel I have to, the facilities and the accommodation are the very best, there is nothing you require other than your food drink, and time. The owners were warm and friendly and were very quick to respond to all our needs bookings e.mails, greetings, etc. The landscape is stunning , everything is top notch! you can walk into Leyburn stretch your legs further and go walking down by the river, or over the tops, visit local pubs shops, markets ETC. A great base for exploring The Yorkshire Dales and more, I feel you would find it hard to beat this vacation, for self catering and must say it was a sheer delight to have the opportunity with freinds to experience the joy, fun, and relaxation of this wonderful stay at Wensleydale House.
Many Thanks

This was our first time to Leyburn and Wenslydale although we had briefly passed through the Dales on the previous years travels.
Initially we planned to book a cottage away from it all but when we visited the wensleydale House website we saw the advantages of being more "in town": walking to the shops pubs and restaurants seem to have distinct advantages!
We were not disappointed and are going back for more this year. Leyburn is a wonderful small country town: a real time warp and Denises house is ideally located on the edge. Country views but still only a coupe of minutes stagger to the pub.
The house itself is excellent and as holiday let owners ourselves we do have a "professional" perspective on these matters.
There is much to do in the area and if you want to give the car a rest we can recommend the Wenslydale heritage railway (2 mins walk) and the heritage Dales buses that run from the town square (bus passes accepted!)
Don't take our word for it: give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
Alex and Denise live next door so they are on hand for any problems but they don't interfere so it's definitely your home for your holiday.
