Fascinating jungle experience in the middle of the Caribbean rainforest of Costa Rica! Our distinguished rental houses on 16+ acres of private property is situated in the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge, with the beautiful Caribbean sea less then 2 miles away. You will stay in one of our comfortable, fully equipped houses on stilts.
Experience the jungle like never before. Have the monkeys waiting outside your window as you wake up to the sounds of tropical birds singing (more than 100 species counted on our property).

Let comfort surround you while you are relaxing in the Costa Rican rain forest, drinking a good bottle of wine on your jungle porch. We believe that the natural beauty in the lay of the land is best left as it is, especially if one of your goals is seeing animals. This theory is proven by the abundant wildlife that visits our 16+ acre property every day. We continue to let nature work her magic. Landscaping is done only around houses and common areas. We have a natural path through our rainforest that we keep clean and accessible; the rest of the jungle remains untouched. Outdoor lighting is romantic but restricted to what is necessary for orientation, safety & security.
El Árbol philosophy: Our philosophy is to create a unique and personalized jungle experience in the midst of complete comfort. Feel the mental and physical wellbeing that nature provides. We also place extra emphasis on being eco friendly and globally conscious. You as our guest take part in this process as 5% of your lodging fees will be donated to local charities.
El Árbol luxury stilt jungle houses
The houses are designed with style, the immediate environment, comfort and safety in mind.
Our houses are beautifully and interestingly designed. They are built on poles so you have the feeling you are living and sleeping between treetops. The houses have round shapes, rich colors and exciting features. Every house has its own jacuzzi from which you can see the jungle and its wildlife. The houses have a fully equipped kitchen, master bedroom, large living room with an extra sleeping sofa/bed, luxury bathroom, safe, air conditioning (at extra cost) and all beds have the best orthopedic mattresses with good quality mosquito nets.
Because of their design and the protection from the rainforest's canopy, the houses have a comfortable, cool climate. The houses have glass windows to keep insects out, although it would amaze you how many days and nights you will sit outside on your porch without being bothered by any of these little creatures and fully enjoy the sounds of the jungle. The houses are cleaned for you 3 times a week.

The rainforest will surround you from the moment you arrive. You go to bed with the sounds of the jungle and wake up with the orchestra of bird sounds and the howling of the monkeys. Still there is much to be learned about the rain forest. A guided tour with one of our experienced and qualified nature guides is a beautiful experience. The accent can be on general flora & fauna, birds or medicinal plants.
Beaches
The Caribbean side of Costa Rica boasts some of the most picture perfect beautiful beaches in the country. Manzanillo beach, (5 min away, long partly deserted white sandy beach.) Punta Uva beach, (white sand, palm fringed, awarded beach.) Playa Cocles, (surf beach.) Playa Chiquita, (surf & quiet beach.) Salsa Brava, (famous salsa brava wave.) Playa Negra, (amazing black sand beach in Puerto Viejo.) beautiful white & black sandy beaches in Cahuita.
Food/Drinks
Although we do not serve meals at el Arbol we do provide you with a fully equipped kitchen. The fridge contains drinks and snacks. But you are more than welcome to stock up yourself. There are little supermarkets close by and they are open year round, until late.
There are great breakfast and lunch cafes, restaurants and a nice bar in nearby Manzanillo. To name a few: for breakfast go to one of the many local soda's, get the real Caribbean food & vibe in Maxi’s or go for fantastic Argentinean food to El Refugio.
There are many other restaurants, bars and other entertainment along the road between Manzanillo and Puerto Viejo. Something for every taste!Read more

The houses are located in the jungle with its beautiful wildlife , still close to the picture perfect caribbean beaches . Puerto Viejo de talamanca is 9 miles away, the authentic fishermanvillage of Manzanillo less then 2 miles.
Recently got back from a trip in central america and stopped off in Costa Rica. Booked El arbol before we came after reading some of their reviews. Have to say that the reviews did not do justice to this place - it is so beautiful. Very private and homely houses with views into the jungle. Lots of wildlife to be seen. The owners of the houses are very friendly and helped us decide what to do and see while there. The area itself, to me, was the nicest place to visit in CR. The houses had everything we needed and more. I never felt so relaxed whilst sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine. We were lucky with the weather and thought we might get more rain but it was bright sunshine every day. Beaches were pretty empty and very clean. Got to see howler monkeys, sloths, toucans, humming birds etc etc etc. Fantastic place and would recommend it to anyone thinking about going.
