Additional Location Information
The Roads End beach is fine place for a romantic stroll with tidepools, islands, and the headland with its hidden cove. Sailboarders come from everywhere! When Lincoln City's beaches are crowded or windy, this sheltered spot just north of town is surprisingly quiet. A short path descends to the beach at the pebbly mouth of a lazy little creek. The north beach is topped by a jumble of quaint old cottages until the beach narrows to the massive Cascade Head. Fragments of lava form ragged islands where comic, long-necked cormorants dry their black wings atop guano-stained roosts. At low tide it's possible to clamber around the headland's tip to a secret cove and beach. Don't linger too long or you'll have to wait hours until the next low tide to get out!
Shearwaterhouse is one block from beach access, the tide pools are close-by and at low tide the Secret Beach is accessible.
The Chinook Winds Casino is about 1.5 driving miles away, but is closer if you want to walk on the beach (watch the tides!) Chinook Winds golf course is within 2 miles, Devil's Lake where many water sports are available is also about 2 miles away. Local taxis within the Lincoln City area are just $8.

Eugene OregonA great get away
Left on 05/19/2013 for a stay in May 2013
We loved our stay at the Shearwater in Lincoln City. So much so that we did not even venture into town. From Coffee on the deck in the morning to dinner on the deck in the evening, with a late night hot tub after a wonderful day what more could you ask for. Oh, the great walks on the beach, the beautiful view, the clean and tidy house, all the amenities you would need provided. Definitely will be going back. Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful home. And the prompt refund of the deposit was an added bonus. No hassles at all.

We love the Shearwater - we've made good memories there for the past 3 years. We've been going to Lincoln City each summer for a decade now - we've stayed in at least 5 different houses - but for as long as we return each summer from now on we'll not really even consider staying anywhere other than here.
It is the perfect beach get-away - everything you need to enjoy the coast.
Debi and Rob have thought of everything and they are the consummate hosts.
I wish I could give it more than five stars!Response from Debi and Rob Hertert - 01/07/2013

Paul - Thank you so much for the fantastic review! You and your family were some of our first visitors when we opened the Shearwaterhouse and you have taught us a lot about Lincoln City! We have been able to pass some of this information onto other guests for their enjoyment. Your enthusiasm and appreciation are such a delight! We look forward to your return every year. Debi & Rob

Santa CruzA wonderfull week for my family
Left on 12/05/2012 for a stay in November 2012
We have been needing a family vacation for some time that did not involve day after day at an amusement park or some other specific attraction. We needed to be away from our lives, comfortable and happy and that was exactly what we got. The shearwater house is a wonderful home that has the best ocean view. The house is set up perfect for what we used it for. It rained 3 of the 6 days that we were there giving us many opportunities to appreciate the hot tub and the dvd player. On the other days we went to the casino (no kids of course) enjoyed the shopping in town and walking on the beach.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone that just needs to disconnect from their day to day lives and enjoy those things that are truly important.
Thank you for providing exactly what we needed

Battle Ground, WashingtonFantastic way to start my 50th year!
Left on 10/02/2012 for a stay in August 2012
My birthday usually falls on or around Labor day weekend. Traditionally we go to the beach with the family. Over the years our family has grown as our boys have met their lovely ladies. In the past we would rent a large hotel room, but this year, with the young ladies joining us, we decided a house would be better. We couldn't have chosen a better one than the Shearwater! The house was just as described, warm and inviting, I was in the hot tub within minutes of our arrival. The sunsets were spectacular and many hours were spent on the large deck. We walked to the beach several times from the house and even found the "secret" beach. We have already talked about doing it again next year! The whole experience was good, from the payment system to the directions, to the stay. Thanks Debi and Rob!

We are glad you put the hot tub to good use while you were at the Shearwater house! There is nothing like sitting in soothing hot water while watching the waves crash on the shore, is there? To have the house suit your family's needs and enhance a bonding time vacation is our goal. Thank you for your excellent feedback and your warm recommendations. We hope to have you back again - and we love repeat guests, for whom we always offer discounts! Debi & Rob

Folks from Western Nebraska
Western NebraskaBeautiful area - Great Family Vacation Spot
Left on 07/13/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Our famlly spent the 4th of July 2012 here! We had out children and grandchildren with us. It was a great place to stay. There is a short downhill walk to the beach - which is uphill on the way home - and the view from the deck and hot tub is fabulous. The house allows for you to spread out. With 3 bedrooms and bathrooms, everyone had space and privacy. The house is tastefully decorated for a beach house and is super comfortable. With the outside deck area, it is easy to move indoors and outdoors as the weather permits. The gas grill and outdoor seating makes a great family dinner area.
The location is ideal for a host of activities. Lincoln City has lots to do for all ages - casino, shopping, kite flying, etc. Within a short drive you can go offshore fishing and crabbing. I would highly recommend Dockside Charters. They were great!
We found Lincoln City to be a great location and the Shearwater House to be a great place to stay. It is not super fancy, but I think that it definately has the character of a beach house which makes it even more comfortable when you are at the beach. The rates and cleaning fee were reasonable as well.
The owners of this house are great to work with. Debra is a great communicator and will take the time to answer your questions and help you with anything you need.
You will not be disapointed with your choice of the Shearwater House. The folks from Western Nebraska highly recommend it! -

Portland, OregonThe most wonderful and relaxing place to stay in Lincoln City.
Left on 03/28/2012 for a stay in March 2012
My wife and two teen-age daughters spent 4 fabulous nights at Shearwater. This was our first stay and we will definitely be back. The home is conveniently located to shops, beach and Hwy 101, yet you feel like you are in your own little paradise especially when soaking in the hot tub on the incredible and expansive deck watching the sun set on the ocean. Five-star view included family of deer visiting daily. Quiet neighborhood. Inside each of us had our own bedroom and bath. The kitchen is well equipped and the living room is comfy and cozy for playing board games, watching a dvd, or just enjoying a glass of wine.
I'm sure you won't find a better place to stay in Lincoln City.

What can we say but what a great place to stay! Where smiles, tons of laughs, and fun times are to be had.
We just got back from an amazing girls weekend which we now decided to make it an annual getaway place. This place was fantastic, I believe what we heard was, "I think I have died and gone to heaven". It was as if we were staying in our very own place and the management made us feel right at home.
The house itself was very comfortable and the amenities were terrific. We had no issues and the view was incredible. The hot tub was definitely a very nice feature as well. We lucked out and had sunshine the entire time but this place would be great in rain or shine!
Thanks for allowing us to stay in your wonderful home. Although the weekend was only three days of pure enjoyment and laughter the memories will last a lifetime. See you next year!!

Left on 12/09/2011 for a stay in December 2011
We had our first ever beach trip just a bunch of us girls and we will be back to rent this house again! It was very cozy and we felt right at home. There was plenty of room for 6 of us (maybe more next year) to cook, sleep, shower etc. The view was amazing and especially in the evenings while we enjoyed the huge hot tub. We had a blast using the wii as well. Lots of fun memories and I can't wait to go back!

Left on 10/24/2011 for a stay in October 2011
This was our 3rd annual trip and The Best So Far!
Debra was in constant contact making sure we had directions and information regarding the house. It was wonderful to feel like I had someone I knew I could contact if I need anything.
The house was spectacular! Plenty of room for all of us six girls and all of our stuff. Plus all the stuff we brought back from the outlet malls!!!
The hot tub was exactly what the doctor ordered after a long day of shopping and kareoke at Macros and the beds were so comfortable.
Each year so far we have stayed at a different house because something had always been "just not right"... But this year we decided that Shearwater House will be our annual Spot!
Oh, and PS...Debra allowing us a late check out on Sunday was Well Needed! Lets just say our morning didn't even Start until after 11am!! :)
Thank you for the amazing, Beautiful, Relaxing, Trouble Free Weekend! We'll be back next year!! -

We had two families that shared both the main house and the cottage. We had a wonderful time with plenty of room. The beach closest to the house had great tide pools and places to relax. Lincoln City was central to our vacation plans and provided a place for easy access. Our children loved the Oregon coast and this home was a wonderful highlight.

Left on 09/11/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Our family really enjoyed this house rental. The deck did not disappoint. We were a short walk to the beach and had magnificant views. We enjoyed seeing the deer that visited daily. The hot tub was private and was a great place to view the stars from. The house itself was pleasant and comfortable. We had a terrible experience last year with a different beach home rental, so we were a bit tentative about renting again, but the owners were really friendly and helpful and made the rental experience pleasant. We would stay here again.

We had a great stay at the Shearwater House. We stayed with a large extended family, we found the home clean and well appointed with lots of extras like games, wii and books and we never felt squished. The hot tub was a bonus for the cool coastal evenings. The view was exquisite. We even had the pleasure of watching doe and their fawns grzing in the yard. It was a great stay. I recommend!!!

Boston, MAComfortable, spacious, and convenient
Left on 09/10/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We (2 adults & 3 children aged 10, 6 and 18 months) recently had an enjoyable stay at Shearwater House with our friends (2 adults, 1 child aged 10). The house was big enough to accommodate us all. The children had a blast in the lower level room, although when we first arrived, it felt very damp there and some of the towels in the closet smelled damp too. We also, unfortunately, could not figure out how to put the futon together correctly. All the other beds were super comfortable.
The location of the house is great. It is off the main strip of Highway 101 but it's very close to the supermarket and shops so it made our dinner preparations much easier. It would have helped to have a few better pots/baking trays and sharper knives to cook for our large group. The house was also very close to the beach. The view from the deck was amazing! Sunset was gorgeous!
We would highly recommend this house, especially for people with older or no children. Although we had a pleasant stay, our 18 month old walker made it a little challenging when he tried to go downstairs by himself (no safety gate or door at top of stairs) to join the older kids who liked having their own area. We also didn't use the deck, which is really the 'piece de resistance' in this house, as much as we'd like to have done because he would have climbed the railings.
