Description from the owner
A high quality self catering stable cottage in one acre of private garden in the grounds of Doddington Hall, a stunning Elizabethan Mansion House. Converted to a high standard but retaining many of the original features but not, thankfully, the horses. Two double rooms that can be configured as doubles or twins, a full sized double bunk room (and cot) for kids, wood burning stoves, nice fluffy towels, parking for two cars and use of summerhouse. The Doddington Farm Shop and Cafe is two minutes walk away. IIn the middle of a rural village but the historic city of Lincoln is six miles away. York, United KingdomConvenient and peaceful location
Left on 05/04/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We had a pleasant 5 night break with friends at this fairly large detached cottage. The beds and living accomodation were comfortable and it is secluded from the through traffic in the village. Easy private parking. We did not meet the owner who was away but his housekeeper was helpful. There is just one bathroom adjoining a bedroom, the largest bedroom having simply a washbasin in the corner. This seems an opportunity missed since showering etc requires a degree of advance planning/routine with 2 couples. The adjacent farmshop is really excellent for all conceivable self-catering needs. We can recommend eating out at Zoot in Lincoln and Danube in Newark. Wifi was only available in the summerhouse on EE carrier.

Thank you for taking the trouble to write a review. Many guests promise to, but few do. We always act on our guests' recommendations. WiFi is being installed on 30 May.

Florence, Mississippi USAPeaceful, quiet convenient place to stay
Left on 10/22/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We have stayed at the Stables twice, and have formed a wonderful relationship with the owner, Ian. He is a wonderful host and a very accommodating rentor. We love the convenience of the location of the Stables because we travel to two large antique fairs nearby. We love the quiet, peaceful restful atmosphere. We also love the convenience of having the washer and dryer which allows us to bring less clothing so that we can take more antiques home in our suitcases. And, as americans we love having the freezer so we can have our "ice" we love so much in our drinks. Plus there is a great mattress on the king size bed. We would recommend this facility we no reserve. Forrest & Donna Cooper - Florence, Mississippi USa

YorkA pleasure from start to finish!

We loved The Stables! It's characterful (beautifully decorated), clean, spacious and well-equipped. Ian, the owner, is on hand and extremely helpful, without ever being intrusive. His attention to detail is well beyond the norm, including providing initial supplies (including a bottle of wine in the fridge!), flowers in the bedrooms and even a gift (chocolates!) under the beautiful Christmas tree in the living room. I would recommend staying here in the winter-time, as we did, despite the fact that Doddington Hall and Gardens (which are adjacent to The Stables) aren't open at that time. However, like us, you will no doubt want to return for another stay when the weather is warmer and you can explore what is clearly a beautiful and well-run establishment.

chesterSuperb country spacious cottage
Left on 11/07/2011 for a stay in October 2011
I stayed at The Stables with 5 friends and family for a weekend for a 21st birthday party in the village. The cottage is fabulous, comfortable, spacious, clean, beautiful furnishings, superb location with lovely gardens etc, etc, etc!! The kitchen has everything you need and more. In fact comments were made by everyone that we could quite move in. Ian was more than helpful and obliging and a lovely welcome pack was there on arrival. also, the cottage was beautifully warm the whole time. Most important for me on a cold autumn day.I would definately recommend The Stables.

Sheffield, United Kingdomgreat accommodation, welcome and location - highly recommended
Left on 10/09/2011 for a stay in October 2011
We stayed here for 6 nights. We were met on arrival by Ian and given a very friendly welcome - liked the England flag in the garden very much - and tour of the property. A very comprehensive guide book of 'how to use' all the the household appliances and where to get food, petrol etc was provided and another packed with details and directions of places to visit, walks etc. The rooms are spacious, very clean and well furnished. The beds and linen are the best we've found anywhere we've stayed - we had a bedroom and massive bed each. The place has plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 children. Some bread, butter, jam, tea, coffee etc was provided so that had we arrived late we would not have been desperate for a snack and drink. The location was perfect. In a beautiful quiet area, yet only 1.7 miles from the a46 and quick access to all routes north and south. This is a great place to stay and well deserves the 5 stars we've given it. We have no hesitation in recommending it.

My family (and somewhat friends) and I had a fantastic stay at the stables. The kitchen invited for a lot of cooking and excellent summer weather to spend time in the garden. We slept very well in perfect beddings. On top of it all the Swedish flag was hoisted, thank you Ian.
