Description from the owner
A one of a kind property on the National Historic Register of Homes. This Swedish cottage was originally built as a single story home in 1898. A meticulous restoration and addition of a full second story with Master Suite, 2 Bedrooms and an additional Sitting/Sleeping area was completed in 2001. The home was originally built as a single family residence and social gathering area for the early Swedish settlers. More recently, the home was visited by the King and Queen of Sweden during "Karl Oscar Days," the local festival that draws visitors from all over the state.

Central MNPerfect for small family gathering at Thanksgiving!
Left on 02/03/2012 for a stay in November 2011
We stayed at Fridhem most of Thanksgiving week. While there we hosted a small Thanksgiving day celebration with ten people, including ourselves. It was the perfect setting for Thanksgiving. The kitchen was the perfect size for everyone to pitch in, with multiple stations for food prep and plenty of outlets. Ceiling fans helped keep the kitchen cool during the long turkey roasting time. The double oven stove was very handy on Thanksgiving! And the stovetop was a breeze to clean afterward. All other equipment (small appliances, dishes, etc.) one would want for a Thanksgiving meal for ten was there and in perfect order. Sitting around the warm fire in the living room wood burning fireplace before and after dinner was perfect for catching up on each other's lives. All firewood was provided right outside the living room door on the front porch. The French doors leading from the dining room to the expanse of windows overlooking the lake allowed dinner guests to enjoy the peaceful, calm lake view. My mom has many health concerns at this stage of life. The first floor bedroom and adjacent handicap-like bathroom made it comfortable for her to stay the week with us. Our suite upstairs was heavenly. My feet were dog tired by the end of the day. The whirlpool bath soothed my aching feet and body each night. Not having to build a fire was nice too! The suite's gas fireplace right next to the window overlooking the lake made for a nice view when we retired to enjoy the sleep number bed. Our dogs enjoyed watching all the geese on the lake and the squirrels in the trees. The upstairs windows and the kitchen windows are the perfect size for normal size dogs to enjoy the outside view. Our Great Danes enjoyed views from all the windows (except for those above the whirlpool bath tub)! The house is much larger than it appear to be from outside. Yet, it is very cozy and beautifully laid out. We totally enjoyed and appreciated Fridhem. Thank you!

MinneapolisCozy yet spacious
Left on 02/03/2012 for a stay in December 2011
Our extended family stayed at the Swedish Cottage over the holidays. The living room was a perfect space for all of us to be together, yet there were rooms for folks to gather in smaller groups or be alone. The kitchen is lovely and the view of the lake serene. And it was clean, clean, clean. If only it were the Norwegian Cottage (a little Minnesota humor).
