What Past Guests Are Saying
The perfect place to unwind, relax and enjoy the Bruce Peninsula
Looking back on our week at the Huron, it's hard to say what we enjoyed more: staying at the cottage and relaxing, or going out to explore the wonders of the hiking and biking trails nearby!
Along with our children, we rode our bikes through the Lindsay Tract Trails (different skill levels for all), and hiked through parts of the Bruce Trail near Lion's Head. All around us we found the breathtaking beauty and fascinating geological history of the Niagara Escarpment, accompanied by fresh air and the sounds of birdcalls (no traffic noise on the trails!). When we returned to the cottage each day after our outings, we found the peace and quiet of Lookabout Bay, and the hot tub awaiting us. The cottage was beautifully decorated and immaculate. The kitchen was well outfitted for making delicious meals. Paddles in the kayaks or canoe or paddle boat were enjoyed by the whole family each day, and our days ended around the fire pit, or indoors in front of the fireplace.
We couldn't imagine anything more relaxing!
(Oh, and our children loved the two bunk beds in the children's bedroom!)
A Little Piece of Heaven in Lion's Head
Our time at Mac's Shacks was one of the most peaceful, relaxing and enjoyable vacations we've ever had. The Huron is gorgeous, with all the comforts of home, including some of the most comfortable beds we've ever experienced. The view is incredible. Waking up every morning to the sound of the water and the birds -- words can't capture how beautiful that was. The hot tub was a wonderful way to relax after an afternoon of fishing or swimming or paddle boating, or at the end of the day. An evening around the fire roasting marshmallows with our neighbours from the other cabins is one of our many special memories. The only complaint that we had was that the week went by way too quickly and we didn't want to leave. We can't wait until we are able to return and enjoy this little piece of Heaven at Mac's Shacks.

This is our second year that a group of neighbourhood women have enjoyed a ladies weekend away staying at the Huron at Mac's Shacks. This place is perfect! Everything is provided and of the highest quality. All we needed to bring was fun and smiles.
A special thanks to the owners Karen and Peter, you two are perfect hosts.
We will be back next year for sure.
Wedding to Remember
Our Wedding Getaway
We booked all four cottages for our intimiate little wedding at the end of summer and couldn't have picked a better spot. The owners Karen and Peter were fantastic and helped make our special day a wonderful memory and experience for everyone. We have rented cottages in the past for our annual family gathering but never have we found a place that was so well thought out that we truly didn't need to bring anything but our overnight bag. What a treat! The cottages are fresh and clean and beautifully decorated. We had our ceremony on the deck overlooking the water and with the sun shining and everyone relaxed (yes, even the bride!) it was truly the perfect setting we were looking for. Thank you so much, it was truly a blessing and a wonderful time that we will all remember.
Can't wait for next year!
A perfect spot for an extended family gathering.
This was our second stay for Thanksgiving weekend at Mac's Shacks and it was even better than we remembered. We travel as a large extended family, 3 siblings and their families, grandparents and a couple of aunts and there is plenty of room for all. We love having our own cottages as well as being able to gather in the kitchen/dining area in the main house for meals. The weekend was also perfect weather for lounging on the spacious deck and in the hot tub which we took full advantage of! Karen and Peter are wonderful hosts and have succeeded in creating the ideal spot for groups to gather. If you love the outdoors, sunset paddles, top notch accomodations and need a place to relax... look no further.
A wonderful retreat on the Bruce Penninsula!
I can't say enough! Everything was wonderful. A beautiful site with accommodation that far exceeded our expectations. The sunsets from the deck outside the bedroom and living room were spectacular. Well worth it and looking forward to a repeat week in the near future.
Niagara Falls, On
a slice of heaven
The service was top-notch. From the minute we walked through the door, we felt at home. There was everything we could have needed or wanted. Its location is easy to find but still secluded, the shallow bay, dock and beach provided our sons with hours of fishing. The firepit gave us enjoyable evenings of family times. The view and peaceful surroundings gave us tranquility that's not easily found. Our home was immaculately clean and it was fully equipped. To travel to Wiarton or Tobermory or any place in between is a short drive away. We truly felt at home and relaxed in a way we never have before. It truly is a slice of heaven.
Perfect Family Memories
Mac's Shacks- The Huron was the perfect setting for our family to create and enjoy some life long memories. Everyone loved the beautiful space inside, with every detail looked after. Outside we enjoyed the hot tub, swimming, kayaking, long walks and access to some of the greatest parks near by. We will never forget our visit to the "Grotto" at Cyprus Lake which only took us 30 minutes to drive to. Our kids have requested we make this an annual event...and as I enjoyed every relaxing, and peaceful moment...we will return to Mac's Shacks for sure!
Beautiful, all we needed was our food and a good book.
Friendly service by all staff with that little extra by the owners. Location was central to many activities for all tastes.
Cottage is our dream retirement home with well layed out hardwood ,ceramics and granite counter tops. Spacious kitchen, large main bathroom and beautiful master bedroom overlooking the water. Private and shared deck's are spacious with a beautiful view. Quality and comfort of bedding and linens was a key factor as well as the daily early morning grounds clean-up to ensure we start our day just right. If I could make a suggestion extra seating around the picnic table area (perhaps a bench to slide under)on the deck as we had a larger group also a mid-week towel exchange would have been beneficial.
Peace and Quiet
This cottage is beautiful, immaculate, well-outfitted, modern and very comfortable. The setting is quiet and fantastic for a family stay. Highly recommend it.
Beautiful cottage, superbly clean, bright, fabulous hot tub with great view, bbq, fire pit, room outside for kids to play. Kitchen has everything, great TV. Lots of windows makes it very bright and view of the water is lovely.
Relaxed elegance on Lookabout Bay (Lake Huron)
The Huron is an elegant, well equipped cottage on Lookabout Bay (Lake Huron).

Girl's weekend 2011 was our 20th and we could not have found a better spot to celebrate this milestone. Our stay in the Huron was very relaxing and peaceful.
