Description from the manager

Cottage Profile Private, 1700 square foot, three-bedroom cottage perched on top of a 30 foot cliff overlooking beautiful Gillies Lake. Gillies Lake is located near Dyers Bay, on the Northern Bruce Peninsula. The main living area of the cottage boasts cathedral ceilings with large windows that overlook the lake, a beautiful limestone fireplace, and local white cedar throughout. The large sitting area provides ample seating space for everyone in the party whether curling up with a book, or watching the TV with DVD player and VCR. Great cottage and great location in every way, except that the access to the lake is a bit tricky if someone is elderly. There are steep stairs and hard to sit around the shoreline. Otherwise the cottage is perfect and has a fantastic view!

Nice location, a few problems though.

Left on 11/16/2009 for a stay in September 2009

I am writing this review on behalf of two couples who have traveled on vacation together for many years. The service we received from rentcottage.com was good, the location and property were ideal for us, it was very spacious and extremely private. Our only issues were with the house itself. We agreed to an adjusted rental week of Monday-Sunday due to the owners using the cottage prior to our stay. However, when we arrived at the cottage, it was clear no one had been there for quite a while. There were dead flowers in a vase with very bad smelling water and the house was not as clean as I would have expected. This was a disappointing first impression. We have rented other cottages and condos together and this was the least-clean property to which we have arrived. In addition, the property did not seem well-kept. One of the windows did not operate properly, the bedding had a very musty smell, the hot tub did not operate correctly (both of us own hot tubs) and we could not find the manual or instructions anywhere. The boat oars did not fit properly making it very difficult to row (there is no motor). They squeaked so loudly, the wives were able to hear the husbands rowing back across the lake before they could even see them. The kitchen was not as well equipped as others we have stayed at and it was almost impossible to cook indoors after dark because the lighting in the kitchen was so inadequate. The propane grill was left for us with virtually no fuel. We left the tanks full and the house cleaner than when we arrived. We tried not to dwell on the few things that were not quite right with this property because it was a lovely house and the lake and location were very nice, however, we would not return to that property or recommend it to friends.

      Wonderful!

Left on 11/05/2009 for a stay in August 2009

This is definitely a 5 star experience...I only mark it as four star in the case
that you have very young children, where shoreline may be an issue. The
cottage is spacious and immaculate, with breathtaking views, and if you have
good swimmers, or if you enjoy non-motorized boating, this is the place for
you! Nothing beats the quiet surroundings and abundance of nature to
explore. The cottage is very well equipped -more like a home away from home.
Also, Dyers Bay is less than a 5 minute drive from the cottage, where, if you
want some shore line and worry-free swimming, it is there. Not to mention a
quick drive to Tobermory! We will definitely be returning, and recommend this
      cottage to anyone.

      Windy and Relaxing

Left on 07/29/2009 for a stay in July 2009

Great experience. Summer 2009 was a cold one and the week we were at the
cottage was no exception. We really understood why there were so many
windmills on the drive up! There is a lot of wind at this cottage but the hot tub
kept us warm and the deck gets great sun.

We saw lots of great birds and snakes in the surrounding area.

      Love this location!!
