Description from the owner

Lovely and cozy small one-bedroom apartment in the heart of Lisbon within St. George Castle walls, the most historical Lisbon neighbourhood.

The apartment is at a private building from the 18th century, enviably located in the heart of the Castelo district, which is one of the oldest and most sought after areas of the city. Sitting high on the hill this neighbourhood benefits from fabulous views around every corner (although not from the apartment), cobbled streets and historic architecture.

There are many local bars and restaurants nearby including the world famous Chapitô with its stunning views and circus school, but the...Read more

A very welcoming base for exploring Lisbon

Left on 04/21/2013 for a stay in April 2013

This is a lovely small apartment which makes an ideal base for exploring Lisbon. It is in a cobbled street of characterful properties, within the Castle walls. Everything that you may need is provided including a thoughtful welcome pack of food and wine. Ana and Pierre do all they can to ensure a perfect stay. So much nicer than staying in an impersonal hotel.

      Beautiful apartment, perfect hosts

Left on 10/20/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We enjoyed our stay very much at the castelo apartment. The location is beautiful, and the place is charming, not to mention ana's great hospitality, she and her partner Pierre practically give the best service one could expect, from filling the fridge with goods, getting toys to our toddler, leaving a local mobile phone at our disposal as well as public transport re-chargeable tickets to ease our trips across town. Although it was a small place for a couple with a baby, we felt great being there, as ana even took the trouble to arrange a babysitter, letting us enjoy our evenings out. Most recommended!

      Cozy and romantic appartment

Left on 10/06/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Cozy and romantic appartment behind the walls of the moorish Castelo de São Jorge, next to wondeful alfama restaurants and Fado houses. We enjoyed every minute of being here: dont need any guidebook, just wander around and soak into endless attractions of Lisboa.
Very helpful and friendly host! We hope to come back again, I definitely recommend this place!

      A home from home

Left on 09/29/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Although the apartment is a little on the small side it is perfectly formed. Ana has designed the apartment with style and a great use of space which gives the apartment a light and airy feel. Lots of home comforts which help you to settle in right away. Ana met us at the apartment bringing with her fresh bread and flowers. Ana provides enough breakfast items for a few days as well as a bottle of local red wine which is such a thoughtful thing to do. I would highly recommend this apartment to those looking for a little respite from the bustling city of Lisbon.Only one word of caution - the shower unit becomes very hot and can cause burns if you touch it.

Left on 06/21/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Ana is a wonderful host, she thinks of everything and has made the apartment a real haven. It is small but feels spacious as things are well laid out and uncluttered. There is a guidebook about Lisbon there and plenty of good reading material left by previous guests. The location is good for wandering the small streets of the alfama.

Wonderul and absolutely charming apartment in Lisbon!!

Left on 06/04/2012 for a stay in April 2012

As our stay in Lisbon was short, we stayed in style. Ana's apartment is located within the Castle walls and was absolutely perfect! It is centrally located with shops and restaurants close by and wonderful views! Within walking distances of all there is to see in the area! Ana was a most gracious host! Ana met us at the apartment and made us feel right at home. We had fabulous bread, cheese and fruits to eat, along with a wonderful bottle of wine! We highly recommend this most charming apartment for your stay in Lisbon! We certainly intend to return and we will be staying at ana's!

Splendid details, welcoming and warm apartment.

Left on 05/20/2012 for a stay in December 2011

We stayed a few nights in Lisbon and were very glad to have booked this apartment. It is obvious the owners have a lot of pride in creating a welcoming and cozy place to stay for their guests as soon as you walk inside. The apartment is small but the attention to detail here and all the little touches really made it a wonderful place to be. From the fresh bread and yoghurt in the kitchen, plentiful guidebooks, the mp3 compatible stereo, coffee machine, to the quality bedlinen and reliable wifi... everything you could possibly need to be comfortable and relaxed has been provided by the thoughtful owners. If they read this, thank you very much for helping our stay in Lisbon to be special! If we ever have the chance to visit Portugal again we will be booking with you again for sure.

A gorgeous time in Lisbon thanks to our hosts!

Left on 04/14/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Lisbon is amazing. This apartment is amazing. The location is amazing. The price is amazing. Pretty much everything about our experience was perfect. Our hosts did an incredible job making sure every detail was attended to, from the wine and cell phone for local usage upon arrival, to arranging a meeting with a local contemporary artist to do a studio visit. It's small, but for two people, really excellent. We looked at hotel prices in the neighborhood, and were even more thrilled we'd found this jewel. Thanks for a fantastic stay.

A lovely base from which to explore and experience Lisbon!

Left on 11/11/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We stayed here for a glorious week in October 2011.
The apartment is lovely, on the small side but was perfectly OK for 2 of us. In a great and very peaceful location, within a stones-throw of the Castelo de sao Jorge.

Ana met us on arrival and even gave the taxi-driver directions over our phone as he had never heard of the road - yes - it's that peaceful even some of the local cabbies don't know where it is :-)
The welcome pack she provided was exactly that - very welcome after a long day of travelling. Ana even provided a mobile phone to contact her with in case we got stuck/lost - a very nice touch even though we didn't need it.

The apartment is within walking distance of some lovely bars and restaurants, not least of which is the bar directly downstairs with it's very friendly staff (it closes at 8pm so no late night noise).
Buses to the Praca da Figueira square run all day to/from the castle entrance - public transport is cheap and punctual.

A lovely base from which to explore and experience Lisbon!

Delightful little apartment in a superb location

Left on 08/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Ok to be honest the apartment is not big, but who needs big, when you are located in such a beautiful part of the city within the Castle walls. You can feel yourself transported back through the centuries. Having said this, the fitout is lovely and the bed is comfy as.
The owners are very clearly concerned to ensure their visitors enjoy their stay as they take great care with very much appreciated little touches. A bowl of fresh fruit, a bottle of wine, lots of nibbles and drinks in the fridge, bus passes, even a cell phone in case we needed it. Wow, we were impressed!
Well done ana and Pierre, you were a wonderful introduction to Lisbon and her people. Would we stay again? Without hesitation.

This small appartment is situated in a narrow cobbled street in the oldest part of Lisbon. The lodging is located on the first floor at the top of a steep staircase.Although the neighbourhood is touristy it is peaceful when the castle closes. Ana is a gracious host and she wil do everything possible to make your stay in Lisbon a good one. The appartment is tastefully furnished with everything you need.

Cosy apartment in the shadow of the castle

Left on 08/12/2011 for a stay in March 2011

We loved our two week stay in this cosy apartment. The owners welcomed us with fresh supplies for breakfast, information about Lisbon, and a cell phone in case we needed any help during our stay. The apartment was well appointed with everything we needed including a nespresso machine to enjoy our morning espresso. The balcony overlooked the narrow lane below and the castle above. Peacocks greeted us from the school yard outside the kitchen window and the neighborhood grocer enabled us to buy fresh bread, cheese, fruit and wine. The bus stop is a mere few blocks away at the entrance to the castle walls; the best way to climb the hill back home at the end of a long day of sight seeing. This apartment was the perfect base for our holiday.

      Lovely stay in well-designed apartment

Left on 07/03/2011 for a stay in June 2011

The apartment was a joy to stay in - very well designed to make full use of the space, and very comfortably furnished. We particularly appreciated the lack of street noise and the feeling that we had a peaceful refuge at the end of the day, where we could just chill out and enjoy ourselves. The welcome package is a nice touch, and the fact that we didn't have to worry about anything like toiletries etc. Lisbon is a fabulous place to visit and explore, with extremely friendly people, and we would definitely go back to the apartment again.

      Beautiful and Relaxing

Left on 01/30/2011 for a stay in January 2011

We were visiting friends who are living in Lisbon and wanted to have a space of our own as well as a place to welcome them. The apartment is in an incredibly picturesque area of the Castelo, slightly removed from the action on a side street and free of noise. It was impeccably clean and very comfortable. Ana had thought of everything we might need and was available in case we had any questions; she was lovely and her English was very good. In addition, she has excellent taste; the apartment decor is lovely. We found the price incredibly reasonable for the services offered.

A magical place to stay in Lisbon

Left on 01/15/2011 for a stay in December 2010

I could not recommend this apartment highly enough. It is run by a delightful couple who welcomed us and were very helpful throughout the four nights of our stay. The apartment itself is in the perfect position for exploring Lisbon, surrounded by nice bars, restaurants and views of the castle. It is on a quiet street away from the tourist bustle and at the foot of the stairs is a bar run and frequented by very friendly locals. The interior is very comfortable and beautifully decorated. It is possible to cook in the kitchen and we were pleasantly surprised to find the fridge full of good food on arrival. With this apartment, we had the freedom of a hotel with the heart of a home.

We loved this quaint and charming apartment in the heart of the historic area within the castle walls. The owner met us when we arrived and immediately we felt so much at home. This apartment is not only immaculate but beautuful and cozy touches are everywhere- artwork, books, antiques, plants etc. Our hosts even had wine, cheese, freshmade bread as well as other snacks there for us when we arrived. It is evident that they love this apartment and have done everything to make your stay very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you might need. The apartment is located on a quiet street. There is a cafe next door which was not only very convenient for a snack, but the people that work there were so nice and helpful when we asked questions about the area. The combination of such a charming apartment with hosts that went way out of their way to make our stay so enjoyable made our stay in Lisbon the highlight of our trip to Europe.

Left on 11/07/2010 for a stay in October 2010

If you want to rent an apartment in the oldest part of Lisboa, then look no further than this charming place by the castle in alfama. The location is deluxe, the owners are extremely helpful, & they are great people. Also Hugo's cafe, literally next door, resolves your snack, coffee, & wine issues. Really a perfect set-up for either a short or long term stay. Hopefully, long term, as Lisboa is a fantastic city & you would do yourself a favor by spending some time there.

Ana was a generous and helpful host, the apartment was lovely and the location is perfect. There's no place like "Home".

Left on 11/25/2009 for a stay in October 2009

We arrived much earlier then we planned (6am), in a strange city and during a downpour. Our contact, Maria, was just waking up when we phoned her. She instructed us to take a taxi to her. She graciously welcomed these two tired, cold, and soaking wet travelers into her home, offered us coffee, and gave us our keys. Our castelo apartment was cozy and homey, with simple yet beautiful furnishings, there was fruit, yogurt, and coffee in the refrigerator. Plus, it had the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The man who owned the cafe downstairs, Hugo, was so helpful and kind. He gave us directions, advice on where to go, and even invited us to join him for drinks. The neighborhood had lots of tourists, but they were outnumbered by the locals, it still felt like a real neighborhood. Nights were very quiet and atmospheric. Mornings were quiet as well, aside from the occasional honk from a roaming peacock. When it came time to leave, Hugo gave us a hug and two ceramic roosters, the symbol of Lisbon. "Home" is the best word to describe this place, for I can't recall being so comfortable away from my own home.

      Magical hilltop stay

Left on 11/12/2009 for a stay in June 2009

While it wasn't my first choice (the apartment I thought I wanted was already booked), I couldn't have been happier with the Castelo apartment, and can't wait to go back. It was bigger and brighter than the pictures I'd seen, and both serene and cosy, with wonderful design touches. Charming without being fussy, and sparse without being cold. Lovely view from the French balcony, both of the tiny street the apartment is on (no cars!) and of the towers of the Sao Jorge castle. Its hilltop location and the narrow cobbled streets make it less suitable for those with strollers or with difficulty walking.
